    Magic pie v5 troubleshooting

Just bought the magic pie v5 kit with Bac 601 display . Got it all hooked up and get a error code 9 and throttle doesn't respond. Disconnect display and bike functions. Looking for troubleshooting advice. Here is what was done to try to resolve issue. First disconnected connections one at a time looking for bent pins or loose connection. Luna then sent , wire harness , controller, and display. First tried display which by looks of was used and it didn't even light up so next tried wire harness, then controller replaced , rechecked connections still nothing. So like I said bike works without display plugged in. When display is plugged in it lights up and menu works but battery gauge show 1 bar blinking when battery is fully charged and error code 9. Throttle is light up but wheel doesn't turn. If the display is plugged in when power is on it works until battery is removed then it goes back to error code 9 and bike wheel doesn't spin. Checked connections several times and changed wire harness . What else can I try ?? This is a brand new kit. I have 6 other kits that are always working . BBShd, chrystalyte, ebay generic, and generic hub on trike. Been putting together bikes and riding over 10 yrs , fixing things along the way mostly connections are the culprit. Had to take a chrystalye hub apart do to water and clean it up sand blast and back together and on the road together . One is probably 10 yrs old the 5301 I believe . Not much to these things making them reliable . I wanted the magic pie v5 because of internal controller and less messy wires. So far I love the motor and it's torque just wish display worked. I have been a machinist for 38 years in the aerospace field and I am usually pretty handy fixing things.
    Thanks
    Scott

Error 9 is a communication error. Here is a link to the manual.

Does Luna sell this display? The Bluetooth system doesn't work. Another thing with a communication problem. It seems like the Cycle Analyst may work better.

I don't know if Luna and GM Canada sell completely compatible stuff. I have a motor from each. One works a little with the BT system, the other will not show information.

Yes new kit and display from Luna. Come to find out they sent me a used display or customer return and it had neatly wrapped electrical tape on a part of the cord, I removed it to find 3 wires severed. Soldered them together and sure enough plugged it in and now works. Would have saved me hours if the display was new or at least working because that was the first thing I tried replacing since it was easiest. Here is what I found and I emailed Gary at luna and awaiting reply for a new display and label to send back all the stuff they sent.

Well if they had a direct plug and play model that would hook up the the magic pie I would have used cycle analyst . I have 4 of them on other bikes and they are great there is a power wire coming out of the display to power the illuminator 1000 watt led light from Grin-technologies. Great light but they discontinued making them they were so bright it bothered motorist. Just bought a cyclops light from Luna plugged it in to test it and it really looks bright suppose to be 1000 lumens and is 1/3 the cost of the illuminator. I have no clue how to wire cycle analyst to magic pie. The cycle analyst has AH display which is a great battery level checker , counts ah while you ride, watts, control power going to the bike total miles on the battery pack and more . Love it.

Glad you got it work. Not a great situation.

I think Golden Canada sells the CA's in more of a plug and play configuration for their motors, but you would want to ask.

I use these for amp hours. It's got a big shunt to deal with and the case is not weatherproof, but it does the job for $20. It's rated 100v/100A. The lighter units seem to fail with high V packs.

Amp hours or total watt hours is extremely useful. It's annoying that most displays don't measure it. But then people would know the true capacity of their battery packs.
