    Chain ring bbs02

    Hello out there!
okay so I have a question I have a 700c bike with a bbs02motor and a 52 volt battery I currently have a 48 tooth stock sprocket and I use the bike to commute now this is the second motor that I put on because the first one fried melted the internal gears Within 22 days of purchasing it so I'm on my second BBs02 motor now.I used Mobil Grease 28 on the secondary gear in hopes of better lubrication anyway I want to know if it would be a good idea to put a 42 tooth Bling Ring On It or a 46 tooth Bling Ring I don't want to lose top speed but I also don't want to turn up the internal gears on this one I do notice the motor is really hot by the time I get to my work which is about a eight mile commute with mostly flat roads! I usually max out at about 32 miles per hour in the highest assist level and the smallest rear cassette gear.so does anyone have any recommendations they can give me on this topic? it would be appreciated thanks for reading and get back to me ! and one more thing does anyone know why Bafang made the motor with nylon internal gears instead of just making them all metal?

The way I understand it, it's pretty simple - if your motor is getting too hot, you are "lugging" it in too high a gear. You need to spin the motor faster to keep it cool. Change your gearing to accomplish this.

If you blow up your present motor, try a BBSHD next time...supposed to be more tolerant of high loads at low RPM.

750 watts is maximum continuous rating. That is 28 mph no wind flat. In hot weather that drops to more like 25 mph due to reduced heat dissapation. Over 90 degrees not over 500 watts continuous.
wiide open throttle for short bursts use lower gears when accelerating. Motor efficiency, that is when motor is creating most power for forward motion, rather than heat starts at a cadence of 50. Keep it spinning fast usong lower gears. An igh is grĂ·at for ease of. Shifting down for stop and go.
i use a 38 or 52 ring (2 speeds at motor) with a sturmey 3 speed internal and 9 speed cassette. 27 speeds in rear axle. I get to speed faster and with less heat using lower gears. I only use high gears with wind at my back and downhill.
A 46 tooth 11 26 inxh wheels nice combo dor commute at 27mph cruise. Only if you shift down for acceleration.
thinking if an evaporative cooler jacket on motor housing using water bottle.
7000 miles on my bbs02. No problems.

Your air speed is important. I was ppullig 750 watts at 20 mph in a strong headwind the other day. Had to shift down.

My 7 speed 700c / BBS02 hits 30 in 6th gear but when i use the 7th gear 11T cog I can tell that the motor would much rather be in a lower gear. It just feels like to high of a gear for the speed so I don't use it. Instead of buying a new chainring maybe you should just stay out of the highest gear. Of course you will lose a few mph either way.

From what I've read about the nylon gear, it's used for noise reduction.

I ran a BBS02 on our tandem trike 1400 miles last year. All up with the heavy trike, motor, battery, gear and 2 riders we were pushing around 450 pounds or so. The motor never got too hot and we never had problems with it running as much as 50-60 miles a day. If your motor is getting too hot with a flat 8 mile ride, you are probably pushing too high of a gear or having some other issue with the bike. The BBS02 is happiest when it is spinning fast. Troubles occur when RPMs are too low.

That is some serious loading. Changing my bbs02 to a tandem this year for more cargo capacity Possibly the most important sense of the bbs02 is in proper use for minimal heat build.
Temperature gauge, and increased heat dissipation ability would help on reliability anxiety as well as range anxiety.

We ran a 38 tooth chainring.

Good to know. Sounds about right. The 38 should do fine. Thanks.
