Dps18 display setup question......I have a 27.5 tire bike. My display settings offers tire sizes from 9" to 34". How do I get accurate speed when the settings menu doesn't offer my tire size? The display settings offer a 27" and a 28" but not 27.5"

You can put a regular bike speedo on it. The cheapest ones are about ten bucks.

I'm installing a xiongda 2 speed kit a friend bought from Luna. It's going on an old bike and I can't make the provided brake cut outs work with her levers (magnetic switch type). I've got a couple levers with switches built in but they're normally open switches, the magnetic ones are normally closed. The magnetic switches have 3 wires, what does the third wire do? I put my meter on the wires and determined 2 are closed/open but the third never makes contact with either of the others regardless of proximity of the magnet. Is there any way I can use the normally open switches I've got with this kit?

There might be a way to do it but I do not know what it would be sorry..

Can anyone measure the thickness (from where it fits against the bottom bracket to where the chainring mounts) of the large gear housing on the chainring side of the BBSHD and the BBS02 so I can get an idea of necessary chainring offset for an upgrade from the 02 to the HD?

I don't have that measurement for the BBS02. Sorry. I'd imagine it's fairly similar though.

HIGH, thanks, looking at pictures around the web, there seems to be a non trivial difference in the thickness of this part on these two motors. I had a 02 on my bike with a lekkie 42T that only fit with a spacer and was about 1mm from the chainstay. Ordered a HD and new lekkie 42T. Realized the HD lekkie has twice the offset as the 02 version and I’m worried about chainstay issues.

You can use chainring spacers on the just like 02, even double them up if needed. Worst case scenario you need to get slightly longer bolts so it fits with the spacer(s)

I got the Luna Drift Trike about a year ago, have about 800 miles on it, and while riding today it abruptly just stopped running ... the display comes on when powering up, everything appears normal, and the battery is fully charged, but when I hit the throttle either there is no response at all, or it tries to roll forward for a second but shuts off immediately, and the display goes blank except for an error message: "03" ... what's up???

Just a shot in the dark here but if you get the wheel spinning before hitting throttle does it spin?

Anyway, are you still in venice? If so drop by the shop. Support does not have much diagnostic info for this but the shop should be able to sort it out. Would love to know their findings after so I can make a note of it.

yes, your shot in the dark is on target ... also, lifting the front wheel off the ground it runs from a dead stop, but while displaying the "03" error code

I have a replacement controller for the bbshd. I removed the old controller carefully, along with cleaning up the sealant, etc so that the white connector would have a clear path to connect. I watched the videos and read the usual issues and it seemed to all come together nicely. Except when I turn it on, I get the error "8H" which seems to indicate poor connection or a bad controller.... I removed the new controller and tried the old one, just to confirm, and everything worked normally, no error. I reinstalled the new one, checking pins, connectors, etc and still the same "8H" error. Anyone have any insight?

    Thank you.
    D.

Sorry, I should have been more specific - I'm swapping the stock Luna controller for a ludicrous controller also supplied by Luna. Everything works with the old controller, error 8h after the change. I am able to go back to the stock controller with no issues. I've checked all pins and connectors and thoroughly cleaned up sealant.

Alright check continuity/resistance on either side of connector by going into the wire, pushing the leads through the insulation as shown in the video. If you don't hear continuity beep or you see a lot of resistance then the hall connector may need to be redone

Thank you, I did the continuity test and found continuity and very low resistance at every pin. Thoughts?

How long is the current wait for the 20AH Big Wheel battery?

If you try adding the flat fish pack to cart you'll see it is out of stock on both listings. It's not a pricing thing or a website thing, it was a decision made at the shop.

Ah I'm an idiot, I was clicking the Panasonic PF option and assumed it would show unavailable like it does for other listings. Lesson learned lol

Well there you go, there's no 20ah option at all unfortunately. Sorry bud.

The rear rack pack that they sell as 20Ah can be done in multiple configurations. The 52V/20Ah version, when using PF cells, is a 14s7p pack. That's a total of 98 cells. The pack itself holds a maximum of 117 cells, which happens to exactly equal a 13s9p configuration. So it works best as a 48V pack. As a 52V pack, the best you can do is 14s8p for a total of 112 cells.

Not sure why Luna only offers it in 20Ah, or why it's out of stock with no expected stock date. The manufacturer that Luna most likely orders them from still sells them, so I'm guessing they just don't sell enough of them to keep them in stock or something like that. So I'm ordering one from China myself. I'm ordering it with the 3500mAh GA cells instead of the 2900mAh PF cells, and with the pack completely filled, so it's rating will be 48V/31.5Ah. And I selected the 50Amp BMS. It'll take a couple weeks to arrive but that's OK. I can pass on the ordering info if you are interested, or I can order two and send you one.

I'm building a Bafang mid drive e bike on an Giant Anthen 2 platform. The front chain ring is now a 42 tooth instead of the stock ring of 30t. Is there a set number of chain links to add for each additional front ring tooth added?

Probably best to just get a new chain and take out however many links you need rather than adding links to a stock chain.

Add half the number of additional teeth plus 1. You're adding 12 teeth so add 7 links.

Hi Yzfcathy. I’ve got two Anthem conversions that I commute on. Great bikes for the BBSHD. Also run the 42T Bling Ring and after all that expense I concur with pax, you really need a new chain. I actually run two chains alternatively and give them the wax bath treatment every month. Reckon in AZ you’ll really need to keep an eye on your chain maintenance.
Love to see a pic of your new ride when you’re finnished.

I have a 52v pack from Luna. It's a rectangle soft side pack with PF cells. Older 11.5ah i believe.
it shows fully charges on my Lunacharger. But a voltmeter shows 47.9v on the charge lead, and 3.6v on the main output wire. And the built in diplay no longer works.
If it is a faulty BMS, can I get a similar replacement one?

What does the charger read with a voltmeter?

I just got my 30Q Wolf Pack and its in the charger. Earlier today I read Karl Gesslein's review of same and noted his recommendation to add some Hailong type washers under the magnets as shock absorbers. When I opened my package up, I found some hard plastic washers... what are those for? Do they go under the magnet like on the left in the picture?

Yes they do, they're spacers to prevent the magnets from bending into the frame.

I actually used both at first, the Hailong rubber things and hard washers. The rubber doesn't do anything but squish out of the way, you'll be fine with the stuff provided.

Hi, just registered. I have the exact same bike you sell on you Luna site, The KHS elite 500+. I am going to buy the BBSHD kit if it will work for my setup. It looks like the one you sell has the 42t eclipse chainring. I would like to know if the complete kit plus the Luna mini 30t chainring will work and do I need any other parts or need to do anything else to the bike besides just install the regular kit. It is a 73mm bb. Whoever builds the 500+ you sell will know the answer. I am concerned about the alignment of the chain and being able to switch to all gears and if I need spacers or anything like that. I have watch lots of videos on youtube and done lots of reading, but was unable to find an answer. Also I could be happy with the BBS02 also, but they say the 73mm bb cover plate will not have enough room so just be able to put the lock nut and I want both. Thanks

Hi Amberbikegirl. yes I bought mine on the same sale, but I do not weigh 105 but 185lbs. I just barely have the money to get it right now, but I am going to hold off till I know what to get. All my gears shift wonderfully right now and I intend to keep it that way when I put the BBSxx in. I really like my bike, hope you like yours as much as I do. I change the bottom bracket to the sram with 155mm crank arms and it fit perfectly and I put a stem extender for a more upright comfortable ride.
That is what I had to do to really like it. I do not know anything else except all the stuff i learned on blogs, articles and videos which is so much, but it was not enough to warrant a purchase yet. If I had a bike that someone else has already did a build on and what not them I would feel more confident. I did talk with support at luna to Joel and he said send a email to Gary and he would find out my 2 questions, so I will let you know when he gets back to me. On the good note I just bought a $1 lottery ticket for a $100,000 game after taxes about $68,000 then I can get whatever bike and motor I desire, just the odds are so bad so do not count on that happening, and I barely by them. I am sorry you do not have enough right now to get the motor. But thanks for posting and thanks everyone else. but I have no more information then when I signed up a few days ago, so still in the same boat. Oh well life goes on for now.

That's me, I am Gary. I already answered with as much info as we will be providing. The BBSHD comes with a stock chainring, all you need do is bolt it on and see how much further inbound you can go before hitting the chainstay. Each chainring offset is listed on the knowledge base so you can subtract the eclipse offset from the stock offset and see if the width is greater than will fit before hitting chainstay. If so you can either use an included axle spacer or get a chainring spacer.

There's always going to be other things to buy in addition once you get it installed. Common upgrades are the gearsensor (really makes a huge difference in shifting), left thumb throttle, dpc18, aftermarket cranks, magnetic ebrake sensors, lights and advanced charger.

Well nice to meet you Gary. I hope if I order the BBSHD and I know of all the optional add ons and I guess you made a good point and I forgot it comes with the stock chain ring so I can work with that and then order either the Lekkie 42t or the eclipse 42t depending on what I find out with the stock. Joel did say if I sent you a email which I did, (did you get it?) that you have access to the mechanics and would find out if they use a spacer with the eclipse on the build as the same bike you sell as mine. I think I sent you a couple pics also. Thanks

Now The battery reads 57.7v with voltmeter.
    not sure what happened.
I'm still having no luck turning the display on.
there was a wreck, and i think the displat-harness connector received damage.
i have another bike to swap parts, to troubleshoot.

Hi,I want to pair a mini cyclone with a phase runner controller. The mini cyclone has a 7 pin hall effect connector, and the phase runner uses a 5 pin connector.
I need the mini cyclone hall connector pinout, so I can make the adjustments.

    Thanks!

Hi, DPC-18 full color display - is this unit waterproof ( in case I use it in rainy weather ) ?

It's pretty water resistant but it's not waterproof and neither is the control pad for it. Just don't ride in rainy weather. Doesn't matter how resistant it is. Unless it's 100% waterproof in all regards. It's just not safe or good for long term reliability of the motor or your bike.

After quite a battle getting it installed, I have finally been able to ride my conversion and it is just awesome! Unfortunately, while riding the zip tie holding my speed sensor broke loose and the wire was severed by my chainring. I now have power to my screen, but the motor will not turn. There are no errors present on the screen. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

Well you're already kinda narrowing it down as far as you can. It cannot be narrowed down any further than doing a new controller/speed sensor. It's very unlikely there's anything else to look at since it was the speed sensor wire that got severed before it stopped working for you. That's a pretty good indication of it being the cause right there.

Very good. Thank you for your help. I will get the controller ordered.

My luna smart charger is only putting out 55v. I used a multi-meter and it confirms 55v. Is my charger shot? Any ideas on how to return it to putting out 58v? Thanks
