    Hi all,

What battery options do I have to replace this with a 52v capable of around 25amps? Space is a bit of an issue. I can use a slightly longer battery but the width and height must stay the same or smaller due to the area where the battery is kept.

The case is 84mm wide x 117mm tall.

    Thanks,
    Craig

Your pics don't show enough of the battery for anyone to make a recommendation

    Hopefully this helps.

Make sure the motor you're planning to use can handle voltages up to 52v. Otherwise your options are pretty much anything that can fit.

I having an issue with my battery. I have a Luna 52 V Wolf pack Battery which cannot currently be charged through the charge port. The voltage on the discharge port is 50 V. The voltage on the charge port is 53V. When the battery is connected to the BBSHD the head unit will not turn on. The battery will charge through the discharge port; however, this did not solve the issue.

From what I understand the next step would be to replace the BMS although I do not think on the Wolf pack this is accessible due to the resin. Has anyone had this problem before? Can the BMS be further troubleshooted on the Wolf pack or will I need to send it in?

Lot of extra details we will need to say one way or another. Need to know if you are measuring with a multimeter, and if you can load test both the pack and charger. As well as any circumstances leading up to the issue. We can go over how to do all this, but would be best to email us as it's a decent amount of back and forth

I am measuring with a multimeter
The BBSHD runs when connected to the charger
The battery charger runs properly when connected to the discharge port of the charger
The battery will not charge when connected to the charge port
The BBSHD will not turn on when the battery is connected.

With respect to circumstances leading to the issue, the bike was ridden until the voltage dropped to approximately 50 V. The battery was disconnected and stored at this charge level for a week. The night prior to the next planned day of use, I went to charge the battery. The battery charger did not turn on when connecting the battery to the charger.

As far as the load test:

The battery will not light a light bulb when using the discharge port. I have not tried from the charge port.

The charger does light the bulb.

I have your standard 48v charger and am wondering how to charge by 48v battery while traveling in the car. since will be camping in places that don't have 110v power.

OK Paxtana I took your advice and got an inverter that is rated for 300w output when plugged into a cigarette lighter. I am using your basic 2 amp charger that I think draws about 150 w. But when I try to use it (with the engine running) the LED blinks red, which I assume is not good. When I move the charger to a regular 110v outlet it works normally. Any thoughts?

Bummer. Maybe the charger can't handle a trap wave, is it a sinewave inverter?

Spose you could always just wire up a buck converter to the 12v source, set the potentiometer to slightly less than 100% and bolt up a barrel on the other side for the pack (assuming it is a hardcase). You only really need the CC/CV function if you want to do a 100% charge which isn't really recommended anyway except infrequently

The cigarette lighter I was using was rated for 150 or 160 watts. I tried the inverter and charger on another car whose lighter was rated at 180 watts and it worked (red light did not flash on the charger). So it appears that the small increase in power output made the inverter/charger work.

Looking to buy a BBSHD Kit. When looking at the different chain ring options listed, it says "Luna Aluminum Chain Ring Adapter with 42T Sprocket". Is this the Luna Eclipse Chain Ring or is it something different? Just curious because it doesn't say "Eclipse" and I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

What is the expected life of the Sur ron battery? Does it charge it to 100% or does it automatically only do 80% or so to protect the battery over time?

The number of cycles is dependent on how it is treated.
We have extensive documentation on how to treat lithium in the battery knowledge base, following our guidelines will result in quite a lot more cycles. It uses pf cells and the actual cell specs are online.

The charger goes to 100%. You can wire up a charger with variable charge settings if you want, just need the plug, which we document where to get on the Surron documentation

Hi, order #56303. My installer informed me that the kit I received had no way to mount the battery to the frame. Was this something I needed to order separately, or should it have been included in the kit? Thanks!

Not sure what I'm looking at here but you need to use bigger wires

Yup, these are the wires that are coming from my hub motor, the bigger wires come the controller

Hi all! After 1 year of great driving with a BBSHD on my bike, yesterday a friend took it for a ride and stopped working, i've attached display pic (ERROR 30H), what's happening? Double checked wires, reset factory display but it's still the same. Fried controller?? Help me to check where's the problem, thanks a lot!

All likelyhood, fried controller but could also be a loose connection somewhere on the bike. If all connections look good, start by replacing the controller.

What was happening right before the Error 30H happened? Like, were you going uphill at the time? Do you happen to remember what gear you were in?

How much charge can one get from the SurRon with Regen if you just left the rear wheel spinning in a running creek?

I am only half joking. Being inspired by Justin's solar trip I thinking about overnight xc in my neighborhood. I live in Paradise where creeks cross the single track trails all the time. I only hear about solar, but wouldn't a water wheel be more efficient? I could charge at night while I sleep then spend the amps on pleasure rather than distance until the next creek where I would party and play with the dogs until charged for the next romp. Even if it took more than a day to charge, I am retired. Does this even sound like fun to anyone else?

Forgot you are out east. Not a babble brook. Maybe you have stood next to a westerner at a urinal, Hoover Dam type flow. Waterfalls.

I wouldn't say it's "wack".. You could generate some power from a stream sure. This is a little gadget that does so:

Crowdfund innovations in tech and design before they go mainstream and support entrepreneurs that are working to bring their dreams to life.

It's a little generator and it generates a little power, maybe enough to charge your phone.

To generate big power you need a big waterwheel. That's not going to be practical for bikepacking.

But maybe you could go a different direction with the idea of using water as power source. Perhaps a series of piezoelectric generators could be used, I don't know just spitballing here.

Great link, thanks. The ones for houses my search found are turbines. This little guy could be more efficient. Knowing the idea isn't totally wack I will keep my ear to the ground.

hello from the UK, i got a cyclone mid drive kit 3000w , works fine but the bearing in the center of image has a bit a play causing the chain to skip (wobbles) is there a replacement part available ????

It's sold out..you could email us to ask the shop if they happen to have a part with sku LUNATIC-FREEWHL but I'm not sure they do as backend says out of stock.

I am having an issue with my BBSHD mid drive unit. Display will start up and all good, drive unit works properly and then after turning off will not turn back on until I unplug drive unit from battery then it works until turned off again and I have to unplug from battery and connect again to restart. Controller issue?? Plugged in a separate battery to drive unit and same issue so problem follows drive unit and not battery that is on bike. Voltage on batteries are 58v. Sounds like something has to reset to be able to function. Help.

What kind of battery is it?

Home built battery 31AH and tested with wires shark pack 13.5AH. Like I stated battery on problem bike works on another bike fine it seems to be in the controller. Unplug battery form drive and plug back in and everything works until turning off and only way to power up again is to unplug drive and replug in .

Did you try using a charger as power source and running it on a stand

If i have a 72v 5000w hubmotor kit can i use my 72v 20ah 3000w battery without burning something or causing any damage to the bike. only until i get a 5000w battery

I believe you need at least a 5000w battery. Now if you had a 3000w motor and a 5000w battery that would be fine. Your hub motor will be trying 5000w from a 3000w battery. As soon as you apply more than half throttle your controller would shut down.

No such thing as a battery measured in Watts. Battery capacity is measured in Ah or Wh. Your 20Ah, 72V battery is 20Ah X 72V = 1440Wh. Do you know the current rating on your BMS? 30A, 50A, 100A?

A lithium ion battery will be capable of a certain amount of continuous current and a certain amount of burst current. Some unscrupulous manufactureres may exaggerate these figures, but you can test it by pushing the limits of your system. If you ever trip the circuit breaker in your BMS, just unplug the battery and then plug it back in. This will reset your circuit breaker, and you can continue riding (using less throttle) until you recharge the battery.

FYI I use a 19.8Ah, 72V 20s9p battery for my Cromotor. My battery has 2200mAh (3 years old and unimpressive) 18650 LiMn cells and it can deliver a continuous 40A and bursts of up to 100A. These figures are for "hot off the charger". As the battery discharges, these continuous and burst figures go down.

Plugged in charger to battery on problem bike with drive still plugged into battery and still no start up unless I unplug motor from battery and reconnect. Have same set up on twin bike and no problems. Good bike starts up and turns off fine on battery power or charger power. Something in controller is needing to be reset to restart I'm thinking.
