I need to charge 8 replacement battery cells that are already spot-welded into my battery. They have a voltage of 3.5V, while the other cell groups have 4.0V. I can "cut-out" the 8 cells and charge them independently as a group of 8 by just cutting the nickel strips. Should I just wire the charger +/- to the 8 cell group and monitor the voltage carefully? I don't know how else to charge them since I am not easily able to separate each cell to charge in a typical AA charger. Or, should I just purchase brand new cells at this point. There does not seem to be any way to get the cells to balance as part of the full grid in my 48V bike battery.

So, the only solution is to buy new cells, charge them individuallly, and then replace them in the battery pack. No amount of charging and discharging of the battery pack will balance the cells, even if I bypass the BMS wiring.

I assume I need to use a stardard battery charger for the individual cells, and can not charge of group of 8 cells that have already been spot-welded together? Ideally, I could just disconnect the group of 8 cells from the main battery by cutting the nickel plate, charge them as a group, then redo the nickel plate. Otherwise, I’ll need to purchase 8 brand new cells and do a lot of work to rebuild the entire battery.

Hypothetically there might be a possibility that the BMS will balance it. There is no industry standard for the threshold for the BMS to refuse to balance, but that does seem like a pretty large imbalance so I wouldn't be surprised if it refuses to do so. I guess there's no harm in giving it a shot though as the alternative is quite more difficult

Thanks for much for the rapid answers.
I will order the drive tomorrow!

Do you make a rear drive for a 27.5?

We sell several hubmotor models, all of which can be laced into a 27.5 inch rim, but we don't have those rooms in stock so you would need to buy it bare motor and have it laced by your local bike shop. Most bike shop should be able to do this easily enough.

I'm trying to build a mid drive, non pedal assist bike. I want to add a cog to the left side of the real wheel so I can run the motor without losing normal pedal functionality. Does anyone know how I can attach a secondary cog to the rear? Or any advice on other ways to set it up?
      Thanks,
      Silas

Good to know. I'm planning on using a Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 Brushless. Where would I run the belt or chain to if I were to do this? I think the issue I'm running into is that I want to have a mid drive, and also have a normal drivetrain.

Sorry, this thread is for support questions regarding products sold by Luna.. That said, I would still answer it if I knew the answer but I do not.

You may want to start a new thread in the new builder questions section, perhaps someone there may have more info.

No sounds like the freehub is failing you and the pawls are skipping. Does not sound anything like a BBSHD internal problem.

You are in high gear, does it happen in the middle of the cassette? My guess is you can't hold on to your 11 tooth. I fight this too. Get the b screw and chain length so it wraps around as much as possible. I can't give up low gear so some times I just can't use the 11 no matter what.

I got fixed, thanks Seb and Cnick. I bought a gear sensor and all the issues are gone

I have just received a new Luna advances charger 48v 300W. Looking at video from Luna there are some discrepences. Only one led light, No visible place for fuse replacement. I have used the charger on my 48v 14amp hour battery. The charger did its job an charging the battery but then began a cycle of going on and off. I am having no luck finding any definitive in formation. How do I replace a fuse on this unite? What is the cycling about. Possibly trying to top of or balance the cells?? There in absolutely no information regarding this in the manual sent with this unite. FRUSTRATING!!! Respectfully Submitted.

First off thank you for the reply. I suspect that my issue is a common one but have not been able to get a definitive answer. I used the lunar adapter for the 5.5 barrel adapter from Luna. I was very carefull to make sure that I connected brown wire which is positive and the blue wire that is negative. I also used the shrink wrap that came with the adapter. All connections very solid. My battery had been charged to full using the 2 amp adapter that came with it. About 2 weeks had passed since doing this. When I plugged in the Luna charger it initially showed a red light and proceeded to charge the battery. After 4-5 minutes it then began to cycle on and off showing the red light and then the blue light also the fan cycled on and off. I am hoping that the device was in some sort of balancing mode or top off. After a short time I turned of the luna charger not knowing if I was damaging it. If possible any input would be most appreciated. Thanks HighVoltage.

HIGHVOLTAGE, After reading all the links that you sent me I found what my problem was. The ebike folks that I bought my bike from advised to allways plug in the barrel connector before powering up the charger. Following the advice from one of the links you sent me fixed everything. Battery charges right up light turned green and it no longer cycles on and off. It is peop[le like you who take the time to respond it guys like me that make a forum the valuable repository of knowledge it is. But I am sure others had the answear besides you. It is guys like you who take the time to help that should be recognized for that and are truelly are the real asset to this group. Thank you guy!!!!!!

No worries. Just all in days work lol. Glad you got it figured out though. :)

After searching around on Lunacycle and anywhere else, I can't find a cradle for the Killer Whale battery. Is there a way to special order just the cradle? https://lunacycle.com/48v-panasonic-...ck-huge-range/

If it was already fully charged then yes it was likely balancing. Nothing in this post indicates a problem. Unless you are saying it is not charging or it never stops cycling etc.

I have a 2015 KHS 4Season 3000 fat bike. Will the Mighty Mini 30T chainring provide a good enough chainline with the BBSHD 120mm? Also, does that chainring still come in Black?

I'd like to buy a number of things from Luna. I'd like the 3KW Cyclone kit, a Bluetooth controller, and the $120 cyclone mount. Just about everything is out of stock. What's going on? Any idea when these things will be back in stock? Thanks.

The rear hub/dropout spacing is 190mm. The frame dimension on the bottom bracket is 120mm. Just looking for some feedback before I order something that will be incompatible.

Sebz is the guru for answers, but my experience was not so good with the 30 tooth and had to use the 42 to get a good chainline on my 3000. I wore out the 30 in a couple of weeks of riding everyday. I think your 2015 has cable pull disc brakes and may not be the same as my later model with hydraulic brakes.

xcnick, True the 2015 is a little different but maybe since he has 190mm dropouts it should be similar to the 2017 and up... I have no chain problem on my 3000, I've run a 30T mini, Lekkie 36T and 40T and still on my original cassette (only have like 500 miles of trails and snow riding tho)

Thanks guys, I think I'll give it a go with the 30T Mighty Mini and see what happens. The following link is to my exact bike, so I do have hydraulic brakes (not sure if that would effect the chainline unless some of these came with 197mm dropouts). https://khsbicycles.com/bikes/2015-k...eason-3000-15/

My Luna Advanced charger is only rarely charging my Luna Shark pack to 58.8V. Most of the time it charges to 54-55v and then shuts off. Sometimes when it does this the green light just dims; other times it goes red.

It does seem like it's more likely to get back up to 58.8v when I discharge it below 48v and to be less likely to get back there when only discharged to, say, 51 or 52v. But this isn't absolute.

          Bad charger, or bad battery?

Charger and battery were both purchased in April, started using them in early May.

It's been doing this since July or so.

These days when plugged in to the wall with no battery connected and a green light it reads somewhere between 53-55v almost all the time. Sometimes as high as 56v, maybe once every three weeks 58.8. This is independent of what the 80/90/100 switch is set to and it changes over time (was at 53 when I started typing this and is at 54v now).

I've tried multiple 2.5mm adapters, same behavior.

Plugging in a battery just now, it shows 54.6v and a dim green light. Fan's off, Amp display is 0.00
