this link shows the various offset comparisons which you can use to determine whether it will hit your chain stay if that is your concern. If it's going to hit you can use a chainring spacer to back it off a little bit.

I have a BBSHD with a DPC 10 display. My question is, since it only has 5 levels of PAS, how does it utilise the 9 pas settings on the different programming options? Thanks in advance, keep up the good work guys!!!

Good question. I don't know the answer but I think you should be able to figure it out if you play with the program settings and see which ones make an impact on bikes with a 5 setting display. Maybe it just takes the setting from every other level like 1,3,5,7,9. Or maybe something more complex.

I think the button on my DPC-14 is wearing out, starting to be finicky when turning on and off. Can it be replaced or do I need to buy a whole new display?

I could have sworn somebody said before the button is replaceable and it's a little switch you can buy at mouser or an electronics supply although my memory might be as faulty as the switch.

Zippy you might be able to repair the switch on the DPC-14
i had some issues with the switch from pulling on the wire

After I opened it I noticed a few things first was it needs a hit more rubber silicon for waterproofing
The wire is retained inside the housing by a zip tie so if you pull the button tight on the cable it's pulling a connection

Moisture and pulling against the cable caused it to break one of the five connections

The board is held with small screws and might be slightly bonded to the silicon rubber it comes off easy push the cable intro the housing to give it slack

The reason moisture is getting in is the rubber gasket sends to act like a plunger if the circuit is better waterproofing including the soldered connections then I feel it's ok to ride in the rain

Hi,
I am new to E- Bikes and I want to convert my Santa Cruz Juliana mtb size small. I am going to be using it for commuting around town, and dont plan on going up huge hills with it or trail riding. I am eying the bbs02. I have experience with both bicycle repair, and drones/ rc/ battery and power systems so this should be pretty simple. A few friends want me to build them e-bikes as well once I do mine. I have a few questions:

2) Trying to choose the right gear ratio. I have 26 inch wheels, and a 7 speed 10t-36t rear cassete with Shimano Deore xt derailleur, and will be using it for high speed commuting.
3) Should I get an advanced charger so I can charge to 4.1v/ cell? I have a really nice hyperion charger that charges Li-ion, but it only supports up to 7s, so I think that is off the table.
4) Are there any measurements I can make on my bicycle to ensure a good chainline and choose the best chain ring?
5) Since the frame is so small, I have to either put the battery in a backpack or mount it to one of those racks that bolts to the seat tube. Is one better

The problem with mounting under the down tube is that the frame is small and my front fork has a lot of travel. Even going off small curbs, the tire hits my water bottle when its mounted under the down tube on the bolts. What are the dimensions of the mini? I can make a cutout out of cardboard and test fit it?

I just purchased the the anniversary conversion kit yesterday! Then I went out and bought a Giant Fathom 29 2 that I will be installing it on. Now I'm feeling a bit daunted and confused by the installation. The crankset on my new bike 24/38 teeth. When I bought the kit yesterday I was a bit confused by the sprocket size question, so I picked the middle one at 48. I think I am now understanding that this will be the new crankset, correct?

I was confused by the option of the Mighty Mini 30T, but now I think I am understanding that this is an alternative to the 48 sprocket size that I choose. Now I've done some reading and it seems like some modification is needed in order to install the Mighty Mini. I confused about whether or not I need to order this and how difficult it will be to install. I am not very mechanically inclined (yet!).

I bought a mountain bike yesterday but really I imagine mostly using it to ride around town and to do some trail riding. I am now starting to understand that people put the smaller sprocket on because they are mountain biking and wanting the increased power (reduced speed) that comes with the smaller crank. Correct? Will I burn out the motor if I leave the 48 sprocket on? Since I just made my order yesterday I'm wondering if I should/can change the order to 46 sprocket option or if I should add the Mighty Mini.

Don't get the 30t mini, it won't have any offset which you will need. The best chainring is the 42t Lekkie Bling Ring. 42 is as small as you can go and still have any offset (you'll understand when you get your order and start building). That's a great ring for street because it will keep your rpm's up which is good for the motor and your top speed will still be plenty high. This ring also works great for trails and anything short of hard core vertical craziness.

It depends on your cassette. What is the biggest tooth gear on that? Downhill cassette might be 26, 34 is common. In hills I use 1:1 for hill climbing, the 42 lekkie to a 42 on the rear cassette. That range of gears on the cassette is really wide. That would allow you to do almost anything. With such a wide range of gears in the back, I think you would be fine with almost any size chain ring. I'm sure if you choose any size chain ring, you'll be fine. I think you should just choose a chain ring size which is neither extremely small nor large.

see what happens because 1:1.24 is not awful, it depends on your hills. Don't forget the stock sunflower is heavy with terrible teeth that drop chains.I did some tests on the same hill and sometimes you don't notice the advantage of the lower gear until you compare amps. It will draw less current in a lower gear

I would only use 46T on maybe a 20" wheel folding bike.

Offset chainring meaning "dished" like a dinner plate as opposed to a flat chainring that would lie flat on a table. The dished ring enables the chain to run closer to the frame which in many cases helps center the chainline over the middle of the cassette. You want a good centered chainline with a mid-drive motor so the chain is not running diagonally at a screwy angle all the time.

I'm looking for a hub motor kit that would replace a 10x190mm quick release rear hub from a fat bike 20" wheel.

The problem is that the fat bike kit that you're selling can only fit on a 150mm axle.

How can I do ?

You can special order a hub motor with wider dropouts and a longer length. The total length would be a minimum of 268mm, but I would choose 280mm. My bikes have 170 and 190mm dropouts, and I have bought 8 rear hub motors by doing the wide axle special orders. It takes longer and costs a little more for a custom width axle hub motor, but the manufacturers don't mind making you a special axle and then pressing it in for you. While you're at it, order a spare axle for later.

You could also completely circumvent this problem by choosing a mid drive. Luna would have something for your BB width, which is probably 100mm.

Looking to spec out a bike. Would use as suburban daily commuter. A bit of stop and go thru traffic lights. Rider 200lbs, 5'11". Distance 32 mi round trip. Vertical travel ~800ft each way. Would like enough battery to do round trip + 20/25%. Interested in mostly using pedal assist so it is exercise but not so much I'm dead tired when I get to work, also going with traffic so some power to get moving off the red lights. Would like to get to work in around 40/45min. I imagine with a bike that heavy the best I could maintain on my own is like 15mph, I was hoping with PAS to maintain 20 to 25mph in traffic, maybe even 30mph. How much motor and how much battery do I need? I've read all about mid motor vs. hub, front vs. rear, geared vs. direct drive and am still feeling a little lost. Also, most of the hub motors are for 26" in wheels. Isn't that a bit small for someone my height? I use 700c on my road bike and 26" on my mountain bike. To deal with road bumps, will I want a fully suspended bike? Maybe something like the Genesis V2100 as a base?

Here's what I think I want based on what I've read.
Battery: 36V, 18aH, 20A cont. 50A peak
Rear Hub Motor 500W, maybe even 750W (36*20 =720)
Base bike like Genesis V2100 Mountain Bike

Most hubmotor either do not have PAS or do it poorly.
30mph is optimistic with that load on a 36v pack.
That size battery will not fit a v2100.
26" is fine for that size rider.

Will the "Luna Chain Ring Spacer for the Bafang HD" work with the BBS02? I need to push the chain ring out so it doesn't hit the chain stay.

My chain slips off when I shift to down to second or first gear. Do you have any recommendations?
