I won’t be able to salvage off original but this is the original plug. What does the wire connection from controller on bafang look like?

Wow look at the size of that thing, don't know why they chose such an absolute unit for a generic ebike battery.. Looks to be a 50A anderson connector if you want to get a matching one from powerwerx or wherever rather than running wires from the inside.
The connection on bafang depends on the model. BBS02 uses bullet. BBSHD uses anderson but it's not that size, it's the 45a version.

Hi Paxtana,
I got it well over a year or two ago and don't think I have it anymore.
Not asking for a repair or warranty, just curious what BMS chip it is so I can go ahead and fix it.
Thanks,
Garrett

There's been several on every model over the years. Most straightforward thing would be to email support@lunacycle.com with pics of what is inside it, ask for case to be assigned to Seb, he can check stock level if we have one.

Is someone able to tell me at what voltage or % charge the shark pack BMS will do balancing? I have a 52V GA cell shark pack that I am regularly charging to 57.5 - 58 V and am wondering if this will trigger a balance cycle or if I have to run it all the way up to 58.8 to do get a balance. Thanks!

Purchased https://lunacycle.com/luna-giant-BMX/ 24"
Want to move the engine to a bigger bike and would like to know the BB diameter to find a compatible 26 or 27.5" mountain bike for the Bafang BBSHD.
Do you foresee any problems moving these components to a larger bike? Thanks

I just received my new Wolf battery and would like to know if I need to charge it prior to hooking it up? Once it is hooked up can I use the DPC-18 display to turn the motor off or do you recommend a battery cutoff switch? I did a search in the battery section and didn't find the answer. Thanks!

When batteries are made at the factory the cells are spot welded into parallel groups and series. A battery management System is then soldered to each parallel group. For example a 52 volt 11.5ah or 13.5ah Shark pack will have 56 cells and the packs is called a 14s 4p. When charging the Battery Management System (BMS)

This is the info that I needed. I had recalled reading something awhile ago about charging new batteries. It was before my build began and I was on info overload! This forum and the help that I have received from the members have been great. Now I can test the motor.

HELP I just recieved a new Bare Bones Motor kit BBSHD (Hot rod) and put on bike yesterday. Rode it after I installed for 5 minutes and all was fine. Went for a trail ride today and 2 miles into the ride the Pedal Assist stopped working. Was currently using level 3, thumb switch quit working also. Console display still had power 57+v , No error code. Unhooked shift sensor cable and retried, zero. Unhooked battery pack and rehooked back up and zero difference. So I ended up riding back to trailhead unassisted. After returning home I removed crank arms, sprocket and removed the 6 bolts holding the side plate that houses the PA and removed assembly. All looked good but had a "Burnt smell" inside. Not looking good. Just had the main driveshaft shear off of my original BBSHD after 1k miles. That is what this kit was replacing. Looking for some insight.

Steintrike bottom bracket type for Cyclone 3000 watt.
I haven't been able to figure out what bottom bracket I have. Maybe someone here can figure it out. I'd like to order the 3000 watt Cyclone. Thanks for the help. Please read from the bottom of this post to read in order or backwards my conversation with Steintrike.. Lawrence Rhodes.
Hello Lawrence,
I don't think it is any of those - I think it is a Hollowtech II type BB.

Hello Lawrence,
It is an English thread, 68 mm bottom bracket shell. The chain length is determined by the boom (pedal) position, but it generally would be 3 and a half or so standard length chains.
If you don't mind my asking, who did you get the Explorer from, and where are you located (just for future reference, if potential customers ask for nearby owners of Steintrikes).

What kind of thread does this trike use? I am going to order a midrive kit and have to specify the thread and width. Thanks for helping me with this restoration. I also need to know how long the chain should be? The chain was shortened for a different gearing due to the electric wheel which will not be used in the restoration.. Thanks so much. Thanks Lawrence

The English thread bottom bracket is, in my opinion, the most common type of bottom bracket. It is also sometimes called Imperial. So it looks to me like you have the very common English 68mm BB.
I never worry about sizing a chain until I am almost finished assembling the bike. Chains are cheap. Buy three or four chains, and just size it when you have everything put together.Last edited by commuter ebikes; 10-03-2018, 05:07 PM.

Hi
Hi Lawrence
I am also trying to install a Luna motor kit on a Steintrike - but a Wild One Fat. It has a similar suspension but slightly different main frame (probably more torsionally rigid). Would like to exchange ideas.
It sounds like you are planning on mounting this 3KW unit on the front BB of the Explorer? Seems like an awful lot of torque to put at the end of a trike length chain - esp one that is not very directly routed? I would prefer to mount the Cyclone amidships with dual idlers, but there seems no convenient place to do that. Or if I put it in the BB, I would like thing a Bafang Max would be as far as I would like to stretch the torque envelope of the drivetrain.
I take it you feel the Cyclone mounted up front will be reliable drivetrain? Have you heard of/seen this done?
I have pictures of a Wild One frame if you'd like to see.

Unfortunately we don't have much experience with non-LunaCycle motors. Hub Motors are kind of a wild west-type deal in regards to troubleshooting and part replacement. There could be a number of reasons why it's not working, not any of which we can provide an instant answer for without taking a look at it physically and swapping parts out, At this point we would usually just recommend you start over with a new kit than to try getting this one to work. Especially if you're unable to get a hold of the original manufacture. I know this might not be the answer you want to hear but unfortunately it's the best we can give since we don't know the in's and out's of other vendor motors and even if we did, it's still a really complex subject since a lot of troubleshooting involves swapping parts out to see what works and what doesn't, which unfortunately we are not able to do.
All in all, I'd just start over with a more open sourced kit supported by multiple vendors. The BBSHD and BBS02 are great examples of this. This way you can just purchase something like a controller replacement, swap it out and see if it changes anything. Even if LunaCycle stopped existing for some reason, the BBS02 and BBSHD would still continue to be supported by many others making it a great choice in that regard.Last edited by HIGHVOLTAGE; 10-03-2018, 07:54 PM.

You called Luna to ask for support on a bike purchased from a random Chinese supplier?
I hope this does not come off as rude but if you wanted a bike that was supported by Luna why didn't you buy a bike from Luna?
In any case we cannot support bikes bought elsewhere, and both our phone agents and this thread are for support. That said, we do provide an entire forum with which to draw from the community's shared knowledge, if you make a new thread. For example posting your question here:

I just received my Sur-Ron Light Bee Dirt Bike. The battery is over 70% and it seems limited to 7 mph. This is independent of ECO or SPORT modes. Is the controller bad or is there a setting or adjustment to make?

Please accept my apologies if this is posted in the wrong place...
I have a friend that just purchased a BBHSD kit for me as a gift (Yay!)
And now I have to pick a battery.
I want 52 volts and either 20Ah or 24Ah
I see these two choices:
TRIANGLE 52v Samsung INR18650 25r 20ah HIGH POWER $799.00
TRIANGLE 52v Panasonic GA 18650 24ah Pack HIGH POWER + LONG RANGE $899.00 $799.00
The Samsung battery pack is available but the Panasonic GA is not.
Questions:
1. How much extra performance do you get from Panasonic GA's as compared to Samsung INR18650's? I've been trying to find a comparison between these two cells. I figured you could point me in the right direction.
2. is the optional advanced charger for $79 the same as the $99.00 advanced 300w charger with 1amp - 5 amp, and 80%-90%-100% selector?
3. How long before that Panasonic GA 52v 24Ah triangle pack is available?
Again, my apologies if this is in the wrong place.
Thanks,
Dee

1. There's no performance changes for cell types. Most of that is based around what kind of motor you're using and whether it will make use of that performance. You'll probably get less voltage sag on the 25R pack but that's about it. The 25R pack will only be utilised to it's fullest if you're using a motor that needs to pull 50+ amps continuous, which the BBSHD does not, so it'll pretty much be the same as the GA pack but with a little less range when used with a BBSHD. Might as well go with the GA pack unless you're in a hurry
2. Yes, they're the same one. It's $79 because it's discounted with a battery or kit.
3. No ETA's right now unfortunately. Probably a few weeks or so. You can try asking here:
