I am having a problem after hosing the mud off my bbs02 bike.
everything ran well for about 10 miles. Now some times it works fine and then others when I turn the bike on I get screen but no motor. I fiddled with connectors. battery and all. the derailer cable seems dry. disconnected the brake sensors to rule them out. I swapped batteries.

what causes only the motor not to work?

Also. I bought a BBSHD about 3 weeks ago. I now want to put it on my new Scott Mountain bike. it's not a fat tire but it's got a got a wider `~95mm bottom . Can i swap some parts on my standard BBSHD to make it a "fat tire BBSHD"? so it will work on my new bike? if so where can I get them. BTW im VERY mechanically inclined!

I would try the steps outlined on this page https://electricbike.com/forum/forum...bbshd-or-bbs02

Also in the future do extra waterproofing before hosing it down http://electricbike.com/forum/forum/...bshd-and-bbs02

Sorry, generally speaking you would need a larger bare motor if you have a larger bb shell. Maybe in some circumstances you could grind it down with an angle grinder to fit standard bbshd but given that we're talking removing like 20mm I don't know how realistic that is for your frame, or if it would hit the chainstay after removing the extra material etc.

    Good morning.

On my way in this morning I felt a strange thud / click while pedaling the bike with the electric assist. I turned off the controller and pedaled without the motor and everything was fine.

A couple blocks later I was leaving at a stop light and there was a thud from the motor and then the motor spun up very fast and would not engage the cranks or chain and had to pedal to work.

Can this be fixed or do I need a new motor? If I need a new motor can I do a direct swap with the BBSHD to try and stop this from happening again in the future.

    Thanks

I have a shark battery that I purchased a year ago. When I returned to ride my ebike the battery was dead so I charged it for about 6 hours .. The battery indicated it was fully charged but my bike didn't have enough power to get out of the garage although it says it completely charged. What do I do next?

Do you happen to have a multi-meter available to measure the voltage of the pack? This way you can verify if it's actually outputting any power.

Two weeks ago I bought a 68mm BBSHD. Yesterday I bought a bike to move this to and it is 95mm wide at the crank.
Is there a way to change my current BBSHD to a fat tire model? like changing a few parts?

No but we can exchange the bare motor if it's new and axle is not scratched up.

What's up guys. I have a Luna Banana (it's AWESOME) and want to convert it to single speed, never use the gears and don't do any hill climbing so I'd like to just get rid of the extra parts and cables to simplify things a bit. Can you tell me what parts I'd need? I have a 42t chainring in the front. Would like to match the current 8th speed in the rear after converting to single speed.

    Thank you!!!

Hey man glad you are enjoying it.
While we would not typically recommend running a mid drive on a single speed due to potentially lugging the motor it's your call..personally I would recommend if you just want it cleaned up to switch it to a Sturmey Archer 3spd IGH instead, as that'll still let you have a few gears to choose from but gets rid of the derailer and cassette.

Anyway..assuming you do not want to have the wheel laced into a single speed hub (which would cost a decent chunk of change and typically needs done by a local bike shop) you MIGHT be able to use this along with whatever size sprocket you want: https://www.ebay.com/p/Gearclamp-Sin...75.m4097.l9055

I say might because while it looks technically possible we have not seen anyone actually do so. Then you would need to remove the derailer and add on a chain tensioner.

If you drop by a local bike shop in your area they should be able to tell you what you would need, assuming you order the parts through them. Since you are in Philly you might want to contact these folks, they do very good work http://phillyew.com/

Thank you so much! I don't understand why this style bike is so uncommon. It's really practical for the city and can go anywhere, really awesome.

I'll give PhillyEW a call, would love to have a local home base for all ebike stuff so this is great to hear.

Hello! Sorry if this is a really dumb question.

How can I read the voltage in my battery with the Uni-t? Do i stick the needles into the anderson connections and turn the battery on? Sorry, and thank you!

Basically turn the switch to 220v DC on the multi-meter and put Red on Red and Black on Black. It should give you a reading. Make sure each prong is also touching the metal part and not just sticking in at an odd angle.

EDIT: For the Uni-T, you just need to switch it to DC current and it will auto detect. So no need to switch it to 220v. However I'd recommend watching a YouTube tutorial on multi-meters to get an understanding of what the symbols mean.

Just FYI; I've had an "old" style BBS02 (before Luna started selling them; I have two of Luna's "new" style too --- much less expensive) for three years of off road riding and haven't touched it. The noise level doesn't appear to have increased.

      Hi Luna!!

I'm working on a Steel frame that will accept the Bafang ultra! I have a thread about it below.

I want to modify a steel frame for a Bafang Ultra. You can buy an aluminum housing for the motor to weld onto an aluminum frame but I question my ability to do that and don't want to pay someone to do it ( I want this to be MY build). I also want to be able to repair and modify the frame as I see fit and I feel much more

Would it be possible to order one of the aluminum adapters from you to base my steel mount on?

Hi Erik, unfortunately we only have a 1:1 quantity of these mounts, as such we cannot part with them since it would make the motor not able to be sold.
But if you buy the Ultra it comes with it..

If I go ahead and buy the motor, would it be possible to get any CAD drawings of the motor mount and/or the motor itself? I'm thinking I should probably have the aluminum mount anyway just to have a feel of what I'm working towards.

Edit: order for motor and mount placed.

Support does not have CAD files for that..you would need to email Bafang.

DPC-18....difficult to get into the menu hitting the i button twice....any help? Have experienced this on two BBS02 systems?

        Click it faster

Coast Buzzraw with 100mm bottom bracket, trying to install 100mm BBSHD. With 11mm of spacers, the BBSHD is up against the frame and giving me 7mm of threads on the other side. Will I regret proceeding and not getting 120mm BBSHD and bottom brackets?

Shouldn't be an issue if there's enough thread for the lockring & outer ring. :)

A few months ago I was considering the Bafang Ultra with ludicrous option. Now that I'm looking again, I see there is no longer a ludicrous option. Will there be again ? Also, is the " Magnesium version" just a fancy name, or does it indicate something, like a lighter weight housing ?

It's an upgrade from stock. Instead of a plastic primary reduction gear we have upgraded them to magnesium primary.

You may want to add that to the page. I had gotten the impression from blog posts and videos that all the Ultras sold by Luna have metal pinion gears and I was thinking that magnesium was referring some kind of special Luna edition motor sold with a magnesium chassis making it lighter.

It makes infinitely more sense that it would be a reference to the pinion gear being replaced with a magnesium one, but that is not mentioned in the sales copy.

i broke the frame mount for my speedsensor i think it got damaged while i'm transporting my bike. my question is can i still ride my bike ignoring the error 21 controller setup error? or much better can i ride my bike without speed sensor at all?

Make sure to turn off Auto Shutoff in the display settings or else it will keep shutting off on you every 10mins. But otherwise you should be able to ride without a speed sensor just fine :)

Hi, I have a couple of bbshd fat bikes with the color lcd display and recently one of them showed code error 12 and power cut out, it would still turn on but no power to motor, reading that it may be a console issue I changed it to a c965 console and when it turns on it appears normal for a few seconds then the screen goes blank with flashing battery and engine symbol, but the motor will still run, can you help me with this problem please.

yes the motor powers up and works fine with the non color display, but the screen goes blank with 12H and flashing battery and motor symbol, is it safe to continue riding the bike with blank screen or could it do further damage, also the color display that was on bike when problem first started wont work at all now, if I plug my other color display in it will power up with error 12 on bottom of screen, I didn't see if it would run or not incase it done damage to it

Try replacing your Main Harness connector as it sounds like it may be the likely culprit here.

      I have a bb02 This whats happening
I charged the battery . Says it is fully charged. When I push the throttle there is a click and it goes dead. After it sets for awhile the computer will go back on but a soon a you hit throttle it goes dead. Sounds like it has a short and blows the breaker. The breaker resets after awhile. What should I do next?
