Hi , I commented not long ago about error 12 on bbshd, my computer shut down and I cant find the original post, you advised to check connections, disconnect speed sensor which I did, and I am still getting error 12 on color lcd, and blank screen with 12H and flashing motor and battery symbol with the c965 display/

My BBSHD with Version 1 controller (Anderson connectors) simply stopped working. No stresses ahead of time, I normally ride in PAS 1, 2, or 3. The system powers up, the battery is charged. Neither the throttle or the PAS works even though the speedo works, showing the speed (of just pedaling.) Also shows the battery level (full). The brake (!) signals also work and only come on when I squeeze the brakes.
I removed the bolts holding the controller to see if the connectors were loose. No.
Any ideas?

I'd start with a controller replacement since it's usually the most likely culprit in these motors. You can try some of the steps listed in here to see if it might be anything else:

Hello, I recently had my bafanghd in the rain due to circumstances beyond my control, and the next day when I went to use it, it quit 1/2 way into a ride. I limped it home let it sit and when I plugged my battery in it started to sizzle and smell like burned something... not good. A friend suggested it was the controller I thought I would throw it up here to see what you all thought. Also is there more than one kind of hd controller? It's less than a year old and I was under the impression it was pretty waterproof, it appears I was wrong. Any suggestions are very appreciated.

You can open up the controller and see inside, but check your connections to make sure they didn't short out. The motor itself is fairly waterproof but the accessories like the throttle & connections around it are not. Specifically your main connection.
There is also two versions of the BBSHD. Version A and Version B. We have pictures on the controller page showcasing the differences between them. Version A uses Anderson connectors on the phase wires where as Version B uses spade connectors. You gotta manually check to know which one you have.

Hi,
I bought a mini cyclone kit and have two questions;
1. What are the connectors going in with the hall sensors? Presumably 5V and GND, but are the other two temp sensors? Can you provide more information on this please? (ideally a pinout).
2. What is the minimum voltage for the controller to operate? I want to run it from my bench supply (30V) to do some tests before I run it, but it doesn't spin up. Do you have a spec sheet for this controller?
Thanks

Did you get it with stock controller, bluetooth or asi? Listing says 48 and 52v only. I think you can go lower with asi but it pulls a lot more current so it can still hit the wattage it was programmed for (very different from other controllers)

My last ride was last March and it worked fine with no error codes. My brother was charging the battery make sure it work when I returned to CA for thanks giving when he noticed these problems.

You'll definitely want to get a voltage reading off the battery as a starting point to verify if it's actually fully charged. After that, you can start looking into other areas of the bike. Generally speaking you may wanna do a disassembly of the motor to verify if the motor core looks good and there's no abnormalities.

I just received a new BBSHD kit and realized that I had ordered the Luna 750C display rather than the DPC-18 like I already have on another bike. Apparently, the DPC-18 wasn't available at the time I ordered. Is there much difference other than the 750c being a horizontal display and not having the USB port? I was wondering if it is worth switching out for the DPC-18 now that it's available.Last edited by Lakejumper; 10-22-2018, 08:40 PM.

Thanks! I got an error code 30H with no speedo or odometer. The wheel magnet is aligned and is close to the speed sensor. All of the connections are all good. Anything else to look before I contact Luna Support? It's a brand new display, first time used.

Error 30 is a communications error. See here https://electricbike.com/forum/forum...s02-error-list

I just finished putting together my new motor and bike, buti can't find instructions on programming the C965 display with the 5-button switch pad. The instructions for the 3-button pad don't work right. Can you please post a link to 5-button instructions? Thanks.

Hey guys. Finally recieved/installed BBSHD. 60ish miles later, I hop on my bike and 1 minute later, theres a loud pop and the back tire locks out. Long story short, chain broke, derailleur gone, 2 broken spokes. Possible cassette damage. I'm wondering what could have been the culprit. Was the chain too weak? Was the derailleur weak? (Shimano Acera M300). Before I order these parts for the repair, is there a specific chain/derraileur I should buy designed for the power, and what can I do to prevent this from occuring again. Thanks!

Does your build have a shift sensor?
I've pulled apart several 3/32 chains on my IGH build, but am suspicious that I damaged the chains during splitting (old chain tool). I've since switched to 1/8 ... and a new chain tool.Last edited by ncmired; 10-23-2018, 09:19 AM.

My dumbass did purchase it, but I was still figuring out things like where do I want the throttle, how to wire it all perfectly, etc that I told myself the gearsensor would be the last thing I installed since it "wasn't necessary" but thinking about it now, should have been the first thing I installed
-
The shift sensor isn't perfect, but I really do think it helps. I'm pretty confident I would have destroyed my IGH long ago, without one.
Sorry for the troubles - all part of the D.I.Y. game.
I wouldn't worry about the derailleur being too weak. They're all about the same, strength-wise, and they'd all behave about the same if a failing chain link snagged the derailleur's chain cage.Last edited by ncmired; 10-23-2018, 09:27 AM.

A question with the Shark 48V Panasonic battery pack I got recently. There are four LEDs at the battery check button, but pressing the button always have the leftmost LED showing red(or orange), even after the battery is fulled charged - The other LEDs are green. Is it normal, and is there any description of what the LED light patterns might mean (e.g. error code?) Thank you
Comment

What you're describing is completely normal. There is no pattern and you shouldn't be using them entirely to gauge battery level. It's just a very rough guideline. Always use a voltage indicator or multi-meter to properly gauge the batteries charge level.
More is covered here:

I have a Luna Cycle 52v shark pack and it cuts out around 19amps. The bike runs great when it is on a stand but as soon as I try and ride it and the battery gets a load it cuts out right around 19amps. After it cuts out the battery reads around 6v. If I unplug the battery and plug it back in, the volts go back to around 50v and the process repeats. My controller is rated at 22 amps. The battery is currently showing 49.5v (I think it's around 50% charged) I checked each connection coming into the BMS and they are are all showing 3.5v. Suggestion? Does this sound like a faulty BMS? Thanks in advance.

You sure you adjusted them enough? Are they damaged in any way? You also have to use other things like straps and zipties to prevent the pack from vibrating around during your ride which loosens them up. If you re-adjust them again and it works for the whole day. That's a pretty good indication that it's the source of the issue but it just needs to be reinforced more.

How old is the battery, and how has it been treated? The older it is the more it will sag, also if it has a lot of cycles, always charging to 100% and deep discharging, exposing to temp extremes etc.. How much does it sag before it gets to 49.5, do you have a voltmeter or some sort of wattmeter on the bike to see sag during use?
-
The battery is a little over a year old but it was never used until now. It was stored in the house to avoid temp swings and I believe I kept it between 50% and 80% charged while it was stored. I should hopefully be in good shape. Checking the sag is a good call, I'll test it tonight.

I have purchased a dillinger ebike conversion kit with a front hub brushless motor, and currently a 36v 10mah battery. I need a new battery. Can I buy a 48v battery and controller? Or do I need to buy a 36 volt battery. How do I figure this out?
If I buy a non dillinger battery, do i also need a new controller? If so, which one?
Comment
-
You'd probably wanna contact Dillinger about whether or not their kits can handle 48v batteries. It depends. It's also not going to be Plug N Play so you'll have to probably do some splicing.
Also, you'll wanna speak to Dillinger about this too. Generally speaking the controllers are limited to their specific voltage for a reason so you may not be able to upgrade to a higher voltage if the controller doesn't allow it.
-
Check the listing you bought from, it might say whether you can run 48v on it. You could also ask the seller, I would assume they know the answer. If you are overvolting the controller it may still work, many kits will but not all of them. If that is the case and it does work you would not need a new controller. If that is not the case yes you would need a controller, and the controller selected should pull an amount of current that matches the discharge rate for the battery you want to use it with. So if you get a 40A controller don't expect it will work with a battery that has a 20A BMS.

Hi, riding along, display goes dead, no power, won't turn back on. Put bike in car go home, display turns on, for short ride, no problem. Next time I try, display won't turn on. While the display was on, I tried jiggling every wire on the bike and couldn't get the display to flicker or turn off so it didn't seem like any loose connections, at least in the external wires. Thoughts? Thanks!
Here's what system I have, on a Yuba Mundo
(Choose Your Programming Level: Hot Rod Program (For Off Road Use Only), Bottom Bracket Size: 68-73mm (Standard), Chain Ring: Stock 46T Steel Chain Ring, Bafang Handles with Ebrake Cut Off: Bafang Handles with Built-in Ebrake cut off, Display Options: Luna DPC-18 Full Color Display $55.00, Add a Gear Sensor: GearSensor for Derailers and Internal Geared Hubs $45.00, Throttle Choices: Bafang BBSxx Universal Thumb Throttle, Make it a kit by adding a top grade battery: 48v Triangle GA 24ah $715.00)

This is troubleshooting a BBSHD/BBS02 <br><br> If you are having issues but the motor is still running please select one of the 2 following links: <br> BBSHD Troubleshooting Random issues on unit still moving (https://electricbike.com/forum/forum/knowledge-base/motors-and-kits/bbshd/8318-bbshd
Start reading. This guide will help you eliminate potential sources and help you narrow it down. It could be a bad display. I'd start by jumping it with a programming cable or a small wire to see if the unit runs without a display.

Ive had horrific customer service from them (long story)... and would rather not deal with them any longer. Perhaps my best bet is a battery rebuild. Any recommendations for shops that do 18650 rebuilds?

DIY Battery building isn't necessarily a lucrative business for most folks due to the costs and risks involved. You can probably start by joining all the major E-bike groups like Endless Sphere and Fast Electric Bike on Facebook to see if anyone would be willing to build you one. I don't know of any businesses that offer this though unfortunately. Maybe someone else here can provide a source?
-
Well yeah there's Syonyk.. he mostly does bionx rebuilds because that company's not even in business anymore and some folks prefer to have the expensive original rebuilt than buy a whole new kit. But for most kits you would be better off getting a new battery unless you want to spend like 500 plus shipping.
You're not the first to have bad service from Dillenger unfortunately, so I know where you're coming from. Spose you could just overvolt it and see what happens. Worst case scenario it doesn't work or the controller fails at some point. If that's the case you'd just need to do the same thing you would need to do anyway, replace the controller with something higher quality.
Or you could start over with a different kit if you prefer. We got bbs02 for like 420, lot more badass than a hub and can handle 48 or 52v.
