Hello Luna, Chris here in beautiful Victoria BC. I have a 2010 Surly Pugsly fat bike and I'm hoping to add a "Fourth Anniversary BBSHD Mid Drive Kit Special" as an extra.
Can you advise if this is the correct unit for my bike, or if there is a better option for a mid-mount drive on my monster bike.

    Thx.

Yeah those stabilizers are seriously underrated for using larger motor sizes. In theory you could probably even do without any lockring, though I do wonder what sort of shear stresses it puts on the motor casing bolts doing that

My Pugsly measures 100mm at the bottom bracket. Guess I'm SOL for the featured 4th year anniversary drive.
Back to the budget to find a full price item...any recommendations for this heavy steel frame and a heavy rider?

I would just spill for the BBSHD at full price. It's still heavily worth it imo. Maybe just make a sacrifice in the battery and go with a 52v Mini Cube until you can save up for something larger like a Wolf.

Anyone know the torque value of the nut that holds the motor in the bottom bracket ? Tia.

You mean the big lock ring? 60 pounds/ft per Bafang, 100 pounds/ft per Luna.

I have a Schwinn Point Beach 7 speed cruiser that I want to put the bafang mid drive motor in. It has the Ashtabula type one piece crankset. Is there an adapter that I can buy to accomplish this? I am just a 52 year old woman without machining and mechanical experience. I can follow directions, but don't want to be grinding off any metal or having to figure out what I need. I just want to follow the assembly instructions.
    Thank you.

Yes, it's on Lunas web site. Eccentric, I just used one on my cruiser build .

As Jangles said Luna sells an adapter, here: https://lunacycle.com/american-style...o-bsa-adapter/

The chain guard will need to be removed along with any related brackets that interfere (which may be welded on, and will likely require cutting if so). Here's a few videos on how to extract the crank on a similar bike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=picMxSwpXH0 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9bbHBaSp-s

For the battery, I'd guess you'd need to attach it to the rear rack - not the best location for that weight but there's not much other choice.

If you have an interest in converting the bike, most likely we can talk (write) you through it. There aren't printed, Ikea-like instructions, sorry. You'll need access to some tools, and if I remember Luna has put together a kit for the bike-centric ones you'll need (here: https://lunacycle.com/luna-cycle-ebike-tool-kit/) if you don't know someone you can borrow them from.

You wrote, "I am just a 52 year old woman without machining and mechanical experience", but then you wrote, "there are no threads in the bb shell" - I think you'll be fine :-)

Installation of BBSHD would require all 4 spacers, two small and two large plus two more screw bushings fore unit to clear bike's rear swing arm. Would this be problematic?

What size motor are you using and what size is your bottom bracket?

Motor says 68mm and bottom bracket is 73mm

If your bottom bracket is 73mm and your motor is 68mm-73mm, you shouldn't need any spacers at all, It's designed to fit perfectly on 73mm with no spacers. If you have a wide flared out chainstay, you'll need to upsize to the 73mm-100mm motor + spacers though since the chainstay will stop the motor from being able to fully press against the BB shell. You'll probably want a BBSHD stabilizer in this case too to keep it secure.

If you already have the motor from Luna, and need to do an exchange, you can email support@lunacycle.com

So, I have the controller that comes with the 3000 watt cyclone kit that I bought from you guys, and everytime I plug the battery into the controller it sparks. And now the throttle doesnt want to show the voltage, nor does the motor spin at all ofcourse. This is in fact the second set of controllers and throttles that I purchased from you guys. It seems like the sparking has blown up the 5v regulator or something. I dont want to have to buy a new controller every single year, so what can you guys suggest? I would like to fix this controller, and maybe this fix can also fix the original controller that I have too, which would be nice. Please any guidance would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
      Mike

After installing the BBSHD using the old chain (8spd) I noticed that the chain keeps falling off towards the inside from the chain ring. Do you know what might have caused this? I'm using the factory newer gen 44t Bafang chainring.

Looking at a 2019 Trek Crockett 5 Disc for a BBSHD conversion. Bike has a BB86.5 bottom bracket. Is it possible to install a BBSHD in this bike? I’ve read about adapters for the other type of press fit bottom brackets but haven’t seen anything definitive for the BB86.5

        Thanks in advance

I am considering purchasing the Mini Cyclone kit from Luna to have a backup before my current Cyclone purchased couple years ago directly from Taiwan goes out. What interests me is that my original Taiwan Cyclone is rated 1680 W max (at 48V, 40 A controller) and came with cooling fins, while Luna claims theirs is a 2000 W system and apparently does not come with any cooling fins. I also know that my original Taiwan motor cannot be run continuously at over 30 A for more than a minute or two without shutting down on overheating. So I would like to know, before I buy, what are the true power parameters of the Luna Mini Cyclone, perhaps in terms of duty cycle with 15 mph 75 deg F ambient air flow (typical riding condition)? Maybe the Luna version is just totally electrically different from the Taiwan version, but they sure look physically identical. I appreciate any answer or experience with this motor.

Cannot run continuously over 30A? You must have some weird custom version of the Cyclone because there have been no issues running it over 30 amps from our end. 'Nor have we heard any complaints from customers with the same setup. You may be using a completely different version of the Cyclone version than ours. I'd contact the original seller rather than us as they would have more information regarding your motor than we would. Your controller is probably limited.

Thanks! That's pretty much what I wanted to hear, that your Cyclone does not have this issue.
