My display is claiming my batteries dead right out of the box. Any reason why it would say that?

i don’t have the PAS cord hooked up but don’t see how that would affect anything.

Plus us I still don’t know why my display claims there’s a full battery charge but after using it for several seconds it shows no charge on the display. My motor gives out at that point. Unfortunately I don’t have the charger to help me (need a cee7/7 to US adapter since Luna gave me that for some reason)

Would need more info like what kind of battery and how it was hooked up etc.

I suspect a high resistance connection somewhere between the battery and the controller. Check the battery with a multimeter directly

I really hope someone can help me out with knowledge or experience. I have the apocalypse V2 with the DJ l - 0690 display (with a thumb throttle reminiscent of a quad or 3-wheeler, not the trigger style attached to the display on the V1). In setting mode, p0 is the operating voltage(36, 48 & 60 available settings), apoc V2 is 60. P1 is the wheel size(8.5, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 & 28 available settings), which, on the apocalypse V2 is 10 (7" wheel diameter, 10' tire diameter where rubber meets the road. And since the lowest available setting on it is 8.5, it's safe to assume that it is based on the overall finish diameter of the tire. Obviously for speedometer purposes). P3 is the push assist safety(PAS), on or off. Its P2 that I am having a problem figuring out. Many people that have ordered the apocalypse V2 have had this set on different parameters from the factory, usually set at 10 or 15. The parameters available to choose from are as follows, 1, 10, 15, 20 and 43. What the hell is this setting? I haven't noticed any performance difference with this setting, but if this setting is the number hall sensors or their phase locations in the motors, I'm afraid extended use at the wrong setting might cause premature wear or failure. Any help would be appreciated, by more than myself I'm sure. People that own these things typically like to get really into them and learn as much as they can. And here I am at a complete loss. And I'm a frickin 20 year electrician! Hhheeeelllllllllp!

I see. You might be able to clean up the threads with a tap and die set. These are fairly easy to find locally.

Just ordered a new lunacycle, took it out and it wouldn't go above 17 mph...is there a speed limiter on this? If so, how do I disable it for off road usage?

If it's the Luna Roam, check your display settings to see if you have a speed limit enabled. Also, which gear were you in? Does it only do 17mph in all gears?

Down shift means a bigger gear in the back. Up shift means a smaller gear in the back.

I found the speed limit in the display setting but it's set at 60 mph so that's fine :P
Testing again I was wrong about my max speed. My max speed is 17 mph in lowest gear, 30 mph in highest gear.

Hello,
I was trying to troubleshoot loose contacts and pressed XT90 connectors too hard apparently. Now I cannot pull them apart. I tried to put hands on the wires directly and pull - still same.

I cannot remove the battery (it's a triangular pack) from my bike now. Is cutting wires and putting new connectors in place the only option?

Could somebody please help?

If you do end up having to cut the connectors off, be very careful that you don't cut through both wires using metal shears as that would complete the circuit and create a very big zap! Also be very very careful not to let the two exposed ends of the wires touch each other while you are doing the soldering...

Yes, only option. The only way they could be stuck together is if the contact points welded together, so the connector is likely done for anyways.

My Luna Roam has a shimano cs-hg31 8 speed casette, and a 42T chain ring. I am wondering what upgrades I could do to get maximum gear ratio.
My primary interest is in getting maximum efficiency when traveling 30 mph and above, so the motor isn't working so hard to extend range, and also so that I can pedal with good resistance at this speed.

Luna says "We will be offering a full range from 40T to 56T chainrings which you can change out" however I only see 42T and 48T for sale.
I'm interested in that 56T chainring...anyone know where I can get that?

I almost hate to enter this discussion because I’m a rookie and don’t want to argue, only offer a perspective. From the research I did before buying a bike, I read about the efficiency of the motor and how it relates to the RPM of the motor. There was an early assumption made to driving in first gear at 40 mph in a car. A BBSHD and a car motor are not the same when comes to efficiency. It’s different and should be understood to be sure the motor is not continually torqued to a degree of producing more heat that can be dissipated. (Maximum smoke). One analogy is to look at a torque curve on a Diesel engine vs. gas. They are different, just like a Harley vs a street bike. If you want to travel at max efficiency of the motor, the RPM seems to be the most important factor. I don’t know what the perfect RPM is, especially when there is a need to consider the gear reduction in the motor. Find the most efficient RPM, do the math for gear reduction and be sure your cadence matches. Sorry, I don’t know the answer to the optimum RPM or cadence, but finding that may help the decision on the selection. Maybe looking at the watt meter in different gears and speeds can help find the answer and then extrapolate to get the optimal gear ratio. Pull out the slide ruler

You need to remove the silicone off the controller port that's holding all the connectors in place. Once it's removed, the other side will slide off. I'd recommend picking up some silicone from the store to re-apply it after you put it back together.

What’s the top cord for? These come straight from the motor by the way.

Gear Sensor cable. Not needed unless you're using a gear sensor, you can just tape it off and tuck it away.

The one on the bottom is a dedicated cable for gearsensor. It cuts for less time than if you go off of the ebrakes from the harness, so you have a smoother shifting experience

My charger isn’t turning on when plugged in. I’m using an adapter for the up plug Luna shipped. It fits but when I plug it in, the display doesn’t turn on as well as the fan. Do I need an outlet that puts out 220v? When I have everything plugged in with the battery, the display shows but it turned out that my battery was being drained as I left it to “charge”. Really wish Luna shipped the right outlet.

I noticed that there is a new magnet mount with the Luna Wolf V2 battery pack. Is this mount compatible with the V1 packs? The two round magnets on my V1 don't quite put my pack where it needs to be and perhaps the V2 mount may align it better.

I recently purchased a pre-owned Luna KHS 7200. I LOVE IT! I noticed the motor rotates slightly on the BB. The guy I purchased from said it was tight and it's okay, just wedge some foam above the motor. I'm wondering if it is okay, does it need a spacer? Link to video below. TIA.

I left two batteries out in the freezing cold garage last winter. Both were partially charged. One was a 48V 10A H Life4Po in a case (yours) and another was a shrink- wrapped 48V 20AH Lithium Manganese from another company. After being charged, both only ran for 7 miles. When they ran out and I put them on the charger, they still read 51V out of a total of 54.6V!!!

What the heck? Did I ruin them by leaving in the cold or is there some connection not being made? Could they be salvageable? How can they still have voltage in them but not work? Thanks in Advance.

That's called voltage sag. It is always there, but way more prevalent when a battery is frozen. See this page
