I purchased a 1919 Sur Ron X bike a couple of weeks ago (Order #77875) and am having an intermittent problem that causes all electrical systems (headlight, screen, motor, etc.) to shut down.

When I turn the key, the headlight and screen light up for a few seconds, then the headlight and screen begin blinking. You can see a video of the sequence here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/aDsbfga7QW6giFXB7.

Sometimes, the bike will function normally for a few minutes. But it always fails again.

Is it possible the sine wave controller is faulty?

I was told it is physically possible to get Anderson and Spade connectors together somehow on Type A vs Type B BBSHD controller 3 phase plugs. How exactly is that done? It is obvious the plastic portions are not physically compatible. Looking at them I cannot really see how it can work.
It appears that even if I extract the metal "spade" from the plastic Anderson connector housing on the controller, it is too small (narrow) to fit securely in the Type B female spade connector I have on my motor core. Has anyone actually done this? Is there enough wire to just switch the Anderson for a Spade (it appears questionable - very short leads)?
(I am attempting to do this seemingly dumb thing to avoid waiting a month for Type B controller to be in stock again.)

Don't do this, it's not worth the risk of shorting something out or creating an unstable connection. If you have an A controller and you wanna put it on a B model, just cut off the Andersons and replace them with spades. There should be enough wire as long as you don't get greedy and cut too far.

The Anderson housing comes off by sliding a piece of metal under the housing so it releases from the crimped metal portion. Once you do that you would ideally bend back the crimp with needle nose pliers or something similar. I would not recommend cutting it and ideally would not recommend modifying it.

To close loop - Learned how to safely 'un-crimp' old connectors, and replaced Andersons with spades, w/o any loss of lead length. They went back together readily with existing females on motor, and are very tight and solid.

So my Sur Ron will be a year old in August. Maybe has 20 charges on the battery, but now I have a low power problem, when I turn the throttle it only goes to about 5mph then cuts out. The headlight and the computer readout are out. Put it on the charger, in about 25 mins says ‘Full’. Same ride tho. 5mph, no computer readout or headlight. Rear light flashes. Is the battery shot already? What is the warranty on this? Help! Thanks

For Sur-Ron problems, email support@lunacycle.com (assuming it was bought from Luna)

If the battery is not working it will not turn on at all, it's not going to fail like how you described. More likely it is the controller or a wiring issue.

Anyone know? I emailed sales and got a reply that doesn't make sense.

I am pretty sure the motor has steel gears?

Also, from what I've read the M600 uses a different programming cable and isn't compatible with BBSxx and Ultra drive config software.

Or is the ludi controller compatible with BBS02 programming and cable? If so, another benefit of the ludi controller over the stock controller.

Edit: OK, sorry, will follow up with Luna sales to avoid clogging up this thread.

Edit: In case anyone else is wondering the official answer is NO, you cannot program either controller with BBSXX cable or programming. And, NO, you cannot enable throttle in ANY mode with the ludicrous controller.

This thread is for general troubleshooting. You'll wanna discuss this with Luna. It should be a steel gear as advertised though.

I just bought this switch. https://lunacycle.com/remote-on-off-solid-state-switch/
I have a 60v 35a battery will I end up frying this switch?

Won't work. 52v is the max capability since a fully charged battery is about 58.8v

      Highvoltage is correct.
However, the original mfger Emcotec has a newer / other version of this 'safety power switch' that will handle the extra power if you are interested. It is apparently a popular item in the RC aircraft world from a number of vendors. Luna apparently just adds the LED-lit power button to their version.

Putting my BBSHD on my bike, trying to figure out how and where I’m suppose to use the spacers, couldn’t find any documentation.

Spacers usually go on the drive side so that the bracket can bite into the frame to keep it from spinning.

Sorry for the dumb question, but which order do you put them in. There are the spacers with holes for the clamping bracket

Motor, clamping bracket, and then the spacers with 5 holes, first locking bracket, then second locking one that covers, and then perhaps the regular rings after to space out the pedals?

The spacers with five holes are for the chainring. You may not even need them and should only use them if you are having trouble with the chainring clearing the chain stay.

For basic info on installing see the bbsxx documentation master repository in the knowledge base on this forum

What do you do when the wolf pack doesn’t come off the bike (magnets too strong)

No way the magnets can be that strong, try angling it when you pull it off (tilt sideways)

I will add do Not depend on the magnet mount alone to keep your wolf pack in place. If you were to even just drop your bike it will come off. Don't even ask how i know that.

Maybe I got a strong batch of magnets, took a crowbar to it to get it off. But once you get it a little it'll come off with a decent amount of effort. Put any cardboard or a few pieces of paper in between and it becomes instantly a lot weaker.

I am having a couple of issue with my shark pack(52V) which i picked up about 7 months ago from you guys, It was bundled with the motor I bought from you as well. First thing is It stopped charging to 58V, only gets to 57.6V. The next issue is its more of the main issue is that when any amount of power is delivered to motor it drops the battery to almost straight to 49V. I have to use maybe like 50W for it to stay in the 54V range. This all happened when I had to replace a failed motor core on the bbshd, the controller did not change nor did any settings as far as I am aware. The thing is that I do use it every day for work but I do not discharge it fully, I can get about 2-3 days before I need to charge it. That is about about 50% to 75% battery remaining before recharging. The battery probably has less then 150 real charge cycles on it considering I do not do full discharges on it. I do take care of my battery as best as possible and try to keep it charged to the recommended range of 80-90% I recently tried troubleshooting steps of charging to 100% to have battery balance its cells, and I have also hard cycled the BMS. Neither of those options works.

So my question is: Is my battery failing? can it be recovered?, and Is the battery under some kind of warranty regarding the battery failing before the guaranteed cycle count of the battery pack?

You can try opening it up and doing a BMS test on the cell banks to verify if you have any bad cells.

It might be failing. I would open the pack and visually inspect it for signs of damage (if the paper is stained from water, or there is saltwater buildup or any sign of corrosion etc) and test the cell banks with a multimeter as shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jkm0tfihe0

If the pack is damaged you could see a large voltage drop. You also will see more voltage sag depending on how the pack has been treated, how many cycles it has on it etc.

As to going to 58 that could also be damage, or it could be drift from the charger which may be adjustable depending on the model.

I am interested in the BBS02 kit for my wife’s Cannondale Tango SL 29er size tall. I searched the internet but can’t confirm the size of the bottom bracket. Also, I could find the detailed dimensions of the batteries you offer to confirm one will fit on her down tube. Do you know if one or more of the batteries will mount on her down tube water bottle bracket and allow the battery to be removed? If not can you send me detailed dimensions for the batteries likely to fit and exactly what to measure on her bottom bracket to confirm the motor will fit?

    Thanks,

    Josh

I had a thought come into my mind, so I recently picked up the V2 Wolf Pak and well I was like this is a pain to have to disconnect and reconnect the charging cable. So I was thinking is there an easier, faster way to do it. I'm no electrical engineer, but would it be possible to basically attach a male Rosenberger to the XT60 (charging connector) that plugs into the battery and a female Rosenberger to the charger? Does anybody have any experience with this?

Something like the diagram I drew up (I read through the documentation and it appears to be similar to what I drew up, just want to know if this is how I should go about hooking it up)

I would like to use my Dolphin battery pack on a second bike and need an additional battery frame mount. Do you sell just the mount? In this forum I've seen links to an additional case, but not the mount. Thanks for the help!

What tool to install the Bafang Ultra spider lock ring? Any way to kludge it?

I see some special tool mentioned in the manual, but Luna doesn't carry it. Where can I find the socket to install the lock ring or is there some easy way to fake it? Pliers?

Killer Whale and 300w charged from Luna.
I would like definitive charging instructions for longest life for this SPECIFIC battery please.
      - Always charge to 100%? Why/why not?
      - Drain it all the way out every now and then?
      - Charge with power switch on or off?
      - Can I safely use anything above the ‘3’ setting on my charger?
      - Anything else relevant?

      Thanks in advance!

Do not always charge to 100%. For reasons see https://electricbike.com/forum/forum...ter-repository

The battery does not have a memory, no reason to drain it all the way now and then. That only applies to older cell chemistries.

Power switch probably does not matter which position it is in when charging. Go with whatever works.

Sure you can safely use higher current for faster charge speed. It does tend to wear out the battery faster though so use moderation when you can.

Whet it comes to coaster brakes - is there a Luna kit that will work leaving the coaster break usable?? Like the Cyclone kit - does the Cyclone kit leave the coaster break usable?

Probably not doable, sorry. Also, coaster brakes do not work well enough to be effective at stopping a high powered ebike. Probably ought to upgrade the brakes.
