Need help disabling brake activated motor shut off for Sur Ron x

    Comment

I purchased a BBSHD kit on order #81346 with the Universal Thumb Throttle. My problem is the cable for the throttle is too short and will disconnect if I turn my handle bars too sharply. Is it possible to buy or exchange for a universal throttle with a longer cable? Or perhaps get an extension cable? I previously purchased a BBSHD kit from another vendor (which I returned so I could re-buy from Luna after you got them back in stock recently) that other kit came with what I thought was an identical throttle, but it seems the cable on theirs was longer as I had no fitment issues on the same bike, although I suppose the breakout cable or harness from the motor on the other kit may have been longer?

hello, new to this forum. i have two 2017 fusion 500 52v/17.5ah/2500w fat tire bikes. ive had no problems till now (love em). one of them is not accepting a charge from either my luna 300w advanced or my basic fixed chargers (i have two of each charger) i attempted the 'reverse' charging for 2 minutes on the output of the battery but was unsuccessful with resetting the bms. the bike sat for a few weeks on a full charge then i rode it to about 49vdc where i wanted to give it a full charge again. this is when i ran into the charging issue. how long should i attempt to 'reset' the bms by reverse charging through the battery output? are there any other fixes? id rather not split the batt case myself to fix/reset the bsm.. im in southern CA and can bring the bike or just the battery by the segundo shop if there is a quick fix there. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Hello, from what you are describing it is unlikely the battery will be repairable. If this sort of thing happens on a fusion pack the BMS is basically dead and since it is potted not replaceable. The battery would need replaced. We can offer you half off a replacement pack if that works, likely a Wolf pack will fit in there and has a much better BMS

hi paxtana, ok, thanks. i will need to replace the one thats currently dead, and in anticipation of my second one going bad too, would like to purchase a second one as a contingency. can i come up to el segundo and pay cash still for parts and bikes? i will need new connectors as well and some quick advice on mounting and hooking up to my fusion 500 frame. can i get the discounted and cash price for both? i will want the larger amp/hr (12.5 i think). i can come up tomorrow or this friday. im leaving town next week for a long trip.. thanks.

Hello - is the display on the Luna Fixed (stealth bike) easily removable when locking up in the city? Thanks!

Depends what you mean by "easily". The display is clamped to the handlebars so it will require an allen key to unclamp it each time

Hey, I have one Luna Wolf V1 and one Luna Wolf V2/beta 52V battery. I bought them about 1.5 months apart, around Feb-Mar this year.
I use them with BBSHD and C961 display.

I charged each battery using Luna advanced charger about 15 times so far (before each trip), and in most cases the settings were 100% with 5amps.
On each trip I use about 1.5 batteries (I disconnect one when low (or I wait for it to shut down), and then switch to the other.)

On the past couple charges, the final voltage displayed ended up being lower than the ideal 58.8.
The batteries build up the voltage and show 58.6 and higher (usually 58.7 or 58.8) but then when the charger turns off charging the displayed voltage drops.
First the V1 battery started showing final charges (after charger stops charging) of 58.7 and 58.6, instead of 58.8.
Then just now the V2 battery showed final charge of 58.3 instead of 58.8.

This was not happening during the first 10 or 11 charges.
Is this normal and/or what should I do? (Is this imprecision in voltage measurement, or is it expected, or I need to re-attach the charger so it charges them more, or what?) Thanks!

This is normal. It is okay for them to be off by a bit usually. It is part of the aging process.

Why are you selling XT60 MALE TO BARREL MALE PLUG ADAPTERs to fit your battery chargers? Male is the wrong gender for the chargers I own. I have 3 of your 48V Advanced 300W chargers, the latest purchased just a few months ago and all of them have a XT60 Male cord end. You were out of stock on the mating XT60 Female to Barrel Male Adapter when I made my purchase, now you don't even carry it? My bookmarked link to it is now dead: XT60 FEMALE to Barrel MALE Plug - Luna Cycle

I would make my own but the only 2.1 x 5.5mm male barrel plugs I can find are for low voltage (5-12 vdc) applications. But from the low consumer ratings I'm seeing on your male-to-male version, it looks like you may be using a low-voltage plug for a higher-voltage charger.

I'm a current owner of Luna Folding bike. Any chance of a 2.0 version of it in the near future? I really like the power, like the weight of it, but a few additions would make it a lot better. I'd happily pay 1k more for the upgrade over the current list.
    • Would really be nice to make it quieter (BBS02 is pretty loud) and integrated into the frame, like the eProdigy Fairweather.
    • Add Torque PAS along with a throttle, and maybe take a page from the new Fixed bike: Gates Carbon drive + IGH to make it very low maintenance.
    • Additionally, the Mosso seat post is not a standard 33.9, it's proprietary w/ a groove. Would be nice if it was standard so people can can e.g., a Thudbuster, especially on the 20" set up for urban commute on bad asphalt.
    • Maybe add Big Apple tires for a bit more grip (but please not FAT Tires)
    • Make it folding that someone can push it around, right now its lift or not lift, maybe a pair of magnets to keep the wheel forks stuck together when folded.

Have you seen the Tern lineup? Some don't fold, but instead get "low": https://www.ternbicycles.com/us/bikes/usage/family/874

      Thanks ncrkd,

I've looked at their line up but, it's weak sauce really. Somewhat overpriced and heavier to boot. But specifically "weak sauce" because it's a 250w / 50 Nm drive @ ~50lbs bike. It does have hydrolic breaks and a relatively nice design, a standard seat post and better tires for the application- all nice to be sure. But taking my 210lb butt up a steep hill or hitting 34 mph on a smooth safe road it will never ever do. Those things are: 1. a must and 2. extremely fun to have, if done carefully. Like I said, I really, really, enjoy the aspects of the Luna Mini Folder that make it fairly unique (first and foremost: power)- just want to get the parts that are not so great somewhat improved, and I'm willing to pay for the upgrade. For what it's worth, I think the people who want the BBSHD on the folder are positively nuts :) though.

I connected my BBSHD to a programming cable. Now it wont start upp :( What to do?

Assuming you already unplugged it and it still does not work, probably replace the controller and don't use that program cable anymore.

I am having 'issues' with the "battery percentage" readout on the mini Luna display. I have a 48V Luna Shark. Last night after the battery was fully charged (charger set to 100%), the voltage reading on the mini display indicated a fully charged battery, with a reading of 54.5V. However, the battery meter and the battery percentage both indicate that the battery is not fully charged. The attached photos are after my ride into work this morning. As you can see, the voltage reading would indicate that I have approximately 97% charge left, yet the battery percentage reading is off. You can also see, that I have the display set to 48V, so I am unsure why the battery gauge reading is so far off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd go through the menu and switch the option for that reading to be displayed in volts. This will probably serve you better than dealing with the inaccurate percentages. There are voltage charts that you can print out until you get familiar with the ranges. I printed one out and used a piece of clear packing tape to secure it to my top tube.

I received my Sur-Ron X earlier this week and it does not run out of the box. Have e-mailed several requests with follow-ups to Luna Support I but have not heard back since yesterday afternoon. After performing all tests and tasks as prescribed by Luna, bike still only runs a few minutes and then turns off for a few hours. Then the process repeats itself. Turn switch on, lights and display blink a few times then everything shuts down. In the event it does finally turn on after it sits, the bike runs well, again, for just a few minutes.

New X Controller arrived and we replaced the original controller. Bike still runs a few minutes and shuts off. Nothing has changed.

I have a Bacchetta Giro recumbent bike that I would like to have electric assist on. Here is a picture of the bike I am thinking about.

I am familiar with building a mid drive bike as I have done that. I am thinking a mid drive isn't a good idea on this bike because the motor will be at the highest point on the bike messing up the center of gravity. Thus, I am thinking I would use a wheel with a hub in it. Do you agree that this makes sense? Assuming that the hub is the way to go, this Giro has a 20" front wheel and a 26" rear wheel, which wheel do you recommend be powered, front or rear?

I don't think the 10lb of a BBSHD or 7lb of bbs02 is going to make much of a difference on the center of gravity, at least we have never seen that as feedback from anyone else building on these sorts of frames. But if you want a hubmotor it is almost always better to go with rear

Hey there, good morning. I have two motors that I got from you guys, and both of them have stopped working. The first the internal gears (the white ones) are totally stripped and gone. The second one the gears that are black broke some teeth. I would like to fix either both, or make one out of both, but I need a gear puller. Is that something that I could bring by the shop and have you guys help me out with. Both motors are under 2yrs. Old. Thanks. ✌

I think we spoke on the phone earlier but yes feel free to drop by

I'm at my wits end with these Luna controllers, 4, yes I have 4 of them in various states of stuck on something and non usable. The main one, HD Ludi is first on the list.

BBSHD w Ludicrous controller, Eclipse 42t, 52v (2P 14ah fusion packs) custom carbon fat frame blah blah... running flawlessly the past 3 months its been on the bike. about a month ago, start seeing error code 11H. I see its some kind of temp sensor malfunction. Motor never gets too hot (heaping loads of Mobil 28 for the win) and even the code doesn't seem to limit power, and it comes on at first when motor is cold... Tried to clear it. nope. web shows its a known issue on some bad controllers? anyway last ride it just seemed to die.

before going through RA stuff just thought Id check and see if there was some clearance setting or other thing I missed. Ya No? Thanks everyone

      Howaya lovely Luna(tics),

I've converted this very cool leaning trike from (horrible) mxus hub motor to tszd2 mid drive with sturmey 3spd. Rides real nice but the hills around here, combined with the trike, my heavy ass and my daughter riding shotgun burnt out the lovely little motor.

looking for Motor suggestions to haul this machine which with rider and cargo is approaching 150kg >300lbs.

have 52v custom battery with quality cells and bms .

      peace

Not too sure, might be able to use a Cyclone on it or some other mid drive. In any case, keep it downshifted if you are pulling a load.

Hello, I recently got a BBSHD/with the dpc-18 and the luna wolf battery all was great but I wanted to run my lipos 18s 66v That I already have for RC Helicopters. I had an issue with the controller so I got a Phaserunner V2 and CAV3 to have multiple battery options preprogrammed and hooked all up worked well then it went out of tune I am now getting hall sensor errors I got a new bafang cable form grin since I was testing the halls and only had 2 with 4.57 v the other blue was not reading I can not do the auto tune is there a sensorless setting that would work or should i just replace the core or hall board if possible. I did have a bit of heat one day 120C + the thermal roll back kicked in and I let it cool off but maybe that messed the Chinese solder joints up on the board? any insight would be helpful i cant seem to get a good tune on sensorless I got it thu a few times but the watts I was pulling were 400< and not as before on the PAS and throttle thanks a bit new but enthusiastic. lol

I know of no sensorless setting sorry. If you were getting over 120*C that is way more than enough to burn up the motor so who knows what is wrong internally at this point, even the windings could be fried.

thanks so I should get a new core and see if that solves the issues with the sensors i have heat sinks now so I will ut on the core to hopefully keep the Temp under 90c so thermal roll back doesnt kick in

You may want to also gear it differently. I don't know how much current you are running but I can't think of a lot of situations where the motor will be getting that hot unless you were not downshifting or have it geared wrong.

On the core you can open the motor and inspect core, if it is fried you will know it most often, since it will be black.
    Working...
