    Hello Luna,

    2 Qs:
    1. I have a Specialized Mountain Bike with BBHSD with 52v carbon shark. At higher speeds my pedal cadence is too fast. I would like to have more resistance and slower cadence at higher speeds. (My rear high gear is 11 tooth). Will the 52 tooth chainring I see for sale on your site improve this issue?

    2. When I purchased this kit in April I think, I added a 300w advanced charger. A few weeks after purchase, the LCD readout of the charge on the charger stopped working. Can I get a replacement?

    thanks
    John

Increasing front chain ring size will slow your cadence at speed. I have had a couple bad chargers. I stopped buying the ones with digital readout and have had no issues with the mini chargers.

This is my first ebike so I have a few questions. I have experience building gas powered bikes but I wanted something a little safer that I can store inside. I want to build a powerhouse ebike from a 7speed Micargi Slugo SS with a 120mm bb. I'm looking at probably getting the Cyclone 3000 with a 60V/24ah battery.

    Cyclone 3000 Qs
    1. Do I need to get the ISIS BB120mm for my Slugo or can I mount the motor on the BB I already have with my bike?
    2. What will a triple chain ring do for me?
    3. What's the difference between the 40amp and 50amp controllers? Will the 50amp give me better functionality from this kit?

    Battery Qs
    1. Will I get more power/use per charge out of this than the 52v/28ah pack? Is the price difference worth it?
    2. Which of the 2 batteries are best suited for the Cyclone 3000?
    3. What is the difference between the standard and advanced chargers with the 60W battery?

    General Qs
    1. Are there connectors readily available on these battery packs to add a lighting setup?
    2. Since the Cyclone is out of stock, would it be smart to go ahead and buy the battery, then the motor when it's back in? About how long do you think it'll be before the motor is available again?

Sorry this is a long list. I just wanna make sure I get it right.

Hi Dave, whew lotta questions bro! :)
      • You need to measure the bb shell first if you have not already to ensure you need 120mm bb but yes, you need a special cyclone bb as it's a bit different than regular.
      • Triple chainring doubles your gear range. You got the 7 gears you can shift into in the rear, then on front you got one of those gears going from motor>chainring, and the other two are for upshifting/downshifting for more torque/speed/
      • Higher amp controller has higher current peaks. More torque when you need it most, but it also needs a more powerful battery with adequate peak discharge. I would stick with stock, especially if you want pedal assist sensor which doesn't work with kelly controllers.

      • Yes you will get more capacity/range from a larger pack. It also gets less stressed from high current applications since it spreads out the discharge across more parallel strings. Additionally if treated optimally, a larger capacity pack will get way more cycles than a smaller pack. We go over all this in the documentation linked to on the pack listing.
      • Either of these packs would be fine. Depends if you want more top speed or more range. And which would fit. I would go for the 52v 28ah but I rarely need to top 40mph on a bicycle, maybe you do I don't know.
      • You mean the 60v pack? We only have one charger for that, it's kind of an obscure voltage. It doesn't have as many features as the 52v advanced.

      • You mean like instead of splicing? That's what you would normally do, splice it in on the discharge wiring. You could use step down butt splices 8 to 10awg, or solder, maybe some solder sleeves, or something like posi-tap. We cover this on battery link as well.
      • Motor eta few weeks. Sure you can get pack now if you want, your call. We do run out of stock of stuff often so if you're set on a particular pack it might make sense to do so.

Thanks paxtana for your very quick reply! I've got a lot of questions but you've helped tremendously. I'm mostly considering the 60V/24ah battery over the 52V/28ah for the $350ish price difference. I doubt I'll max it out on speed most of the time but It'll be nice to have the option. And yeah, I meant 60V. I'll probably bite the bullet and get that 60V battery in the next day or two. Thanks again for your help!

      Anniversary special bbs02.
      everythung works fine.
I have attempted to get in to the advanced settings . i do have an older unit that operates as videos and manual says
This unit will not go to advanced settings after holding + - buttoons and pushing switch 7 times. As my other 961 does
But it will go to another set of screens saying p1 p2 p3 etc. With error 22 on screen. Bms
      What is this?
tried again and finally. Went into advanced settings after another hold of + - butto and and three push on switch. Parameter change worked but still coming up with screens that do nothing..

I thought it was 8 times to access C961 advanced settings?

Doubt error 22 is much except the pack BMS doesn't communicate anything the Bafang drive may be looking for.

      Hi Eric /Paxtana

      1. I am looking at the Fuse Comp 6fattie. Do I need anything else to fit the 68mm BBSHD kit other than the FSA PF30 adapter (specifically something like this ) ?

      2. Which BBSHD kit will fit the specialized Fatboy pro - the 100 MM or the 120 mm? I saw a forum post where the 120MM was used but they added spacers so I am confused.

edit: (apologies) 3. For the Fatboypro, would you recommend BBSHD or the rear hub drive ?

      Thanks y kick.
Error was probably in operator. Just a different display with different features that are unknown and unused. And the new speed limit in the newer display is 60. No need to do the kph trick to unlimit . dont need that kind of speed either

I'm waiting for the Cyclone restock but keeping eye on this. Almost same as the other guy I'm getting cyclone 3000w and 60v battery. I saw this, so if I want the pedal assist I need the 40amp not the 50amp as you say doesn't work with Kelly controllers?

          That is correct.

regarding the fusion crusher 2. the battery is mounted via straps and ties, making the removal of the battery a bit of a chore to do because you have to cut and replace ties every time you remove the battery.
not a thing you would want to do on a regular basis. is this correct?

Battery is held in by magnetic mounts. All other ties are optional. Ground clearance looks like bigger problem on that particular bike.

I wouldn't remove it on the latest revision unless you have to but yes you could. We used to use Velcro straps but found the ties to be more durable.

Are there any extra components "included" with the BBSHD Middrive kit, versus just buying all the components separately. For example, I own a BBSHD kit already and want another for another bike, but would like to have the Hydraulic cutoff brakes instead of the standard mechanical disk brake levers. I already have a set of pedal levers from my last build left over. Trying to figure out if I throw everything in the cart singly if I would be missing some cables or something else important.

You will definitely pay more for separate components. Display is discounted with kit purchase. That alone covers the extra cost for your hydraulic rig. I have a box full of the bafang brake levers. You really only need to do one hydraulic brake. I use left brake like a motorcycle clutch.

Do any of these bikes support the 27.5 plus tires?

I recommend asking the manufacturer of the frame, we link to the specific make and model on every conversion build listing.

Have a BBSHD Ludicrous with a 52v 13.5ah battery. Yesterday on the commute home from work it drained to just under 42v. I was blocks away from home. Got home and right away charged to 80% as I've been doing unless I anticipate a longer ride. No change at 80% so I charged it to 100%. After the charge the display only stays on for a few seconds. It reads a full voltage then plummets quickly and shuts off. Everything indicates the charger works, battery still takes a charge and is fully charged. Is this another BMS issue that can be fixed or did my new ebike really just die on me?

I freely admit I'm new to ebikes and don't have all the terminology down pat but I am a quick learner. Please point me in the right direction, thanks!

80% charge often doesn't allow the BMS to balance the cell series groups. This is very important "conditioning" and often becomes an issue when people employ 80% charge levels over a period of time.

Please charge to 100% and leave it connected to the charger (even if it looks completed) at least a day or longer. If problems persist email support@lunacycle.com with your order number and maybe include link to this thread/post?

You should probably also check the discharge contacts on the cradle described in the shutdowns section on the battery documentation, and you can also try bypassing the battery using the charger which we also cover on the documentation, this would help narrow down whether the issue originates from the battery or from the rest of the system. We have a video on this and also a video on how to do a load test on the battery.

Thanks to the both of you. Immediately after reading what ykick wrote yesterday I plugged it in. Needing to head to work soon so I unplugged and still got the same issue. Checked the connections as paxtana suggested. Bent them all in a little and I appear to be up and cycling again!

Where can I find a manual for the DPC18 display?

        Thanks

In the video that Eric made on the 750C display he showed the motor temperature on the display. How do I activate that?

That video was for the double torque display not the 750c. I know they do look identical but they are not. The double torque motor system has some features that can be displayed on the double torque display that BBSxx systems cannot do.

Luna's lead support tech Sebz is working on the initial documentation right now and we should have it up by the end of the weekend in the BBSHD/BBS02 knowledge base.

Are the BBS02 kits offered at Luna Cycle all of the BBS02B version? Or of the original BBS02 version?

They are the latest production run from Bafang. The original version is no longer produced.
