I've had my BBS02 with a 48v 13.5ah shark pack setup for the past month and it has worked perfectly for the past 200miles up until last night. Now the bike seems to be having power issues. when i try to power on the bike the screen will either turn on normally, turn on for a second then shut off, or wont turn on at all. If i am lucky enough to have it turn on and stay on, ill take it out to ride but when i hit throttle the battery will either turn off right away or it will let me ride for a bit and then cutting off. Once it turns itself off the only way ive been able to get it back on is by taking it off and then putting the battery back into the cradle. i suspect that the battery isnt getting a good connection with the cable and that the vibrations from riding the bike cause the battery to lose connection with cradle. Not sure if theres a way to connect battery to motor directly and bypass the cradle but that might work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Got all my parts from luna cycle by the way so I know they are good quality.

Does anyone know why a DPC-14 display would reset itself to the default settings?

I would consider it a fluke but I built two BBS02 kits for a friend and after a few weeks, both of them reset themselves to the factory default settings. Mine has never done this, even when I have left the battery off the bike for several weeks at a time.

      Hi,

I started charging my new luna shark 52v battery today that I received with my new luna mini charger and it keeps making a constant clicking sound. Both the LED 1 and 2 lights are turning off and on with each click as well as with the fan starting and stopping. Any help? Thanks.

Unfortunately it looks like I stripped the bolt hole on my BBS02 trying to deal with the crappy stock cranks. Even with Locktight red it's starting to worrk loose again and there were metal filings on the bolt. What part do I need to replace? I better replace the bolt too.Do I have to have a torque wrench in order to avoid overtightening? I guess I must have been a bit too forceful after re-tightening those crappy cranks the forth or fifth time.

Is the BBSHD compatible with a BB that has a larger diameter? I understand the width considerations. My BB is specifically "100mm ENG SQR JIS 164mm Steel LWH 7.00 x 1.65 x 1.75"". Would this be compatible? Here's a link to a replacement BB part, per the manufacturer: https://www.shop.com/Origin8+Bb+Set+...roduct-details

English defines the diameter of the shell - 34.6-34.9 mm and is the right fit for the BBSHD. 100 mm is the width you will need. I think 164 mm is the length of the spindle of your BB.

I am looking at getting the Fusion Crusher 3. Will the Ludicrous option give me a longer range (all other factors being equal) or better range with the 1500W standard?

If you control yourself and don't use more amps than the standard BBSHD, you won't lose range, but you won't gain any. It just allows you to dump more amps into the same motor. Increased amps =increased torque/ acceleration/power consumption.

Ludicrous gives you less range, it is a higher power option. The more power you use the quicker you use it up.
That said, if you wanted to you could get a program cable and dial down the power output on the ludicrous to the same level as the regular controller if you really wanted to get the same or better level of range. They are fully programmable after all. But if you are going to turn down the output like that, you might as well just get the lower powered one to begin with and save $250.. Unless you plan on turning up the power for off-road applications or something like that.

So I have the shark 52v pack and it only charges to 54.2v on any amp setting and the 100% charge setting on the '52v advanced 300w luna charger'.
I have read that it usually charges up to almost 59v. What's going on, do I have a bad cell? 2 charges thus far, same result.

I had one of the newer Advanced 300W exhibiting steadily dropping voltage. Opened it up and spun the VCC pot a couple times back & forth. This seemed to clean the pot or at least find a spot which was more stable than when it arrived from the factory. After that, rock solid steady voltage setting.

paxtana thank you for the link! Fixed my charger.

Power, range...power, range....POWER! I ordered the Ludicrous. As we used to say in my Boy Scout Troop: "It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it". Thanks!

Do you have a multimeter to check the voltage of the battery (out of the XT-90)? 59.94V is a little high.

The bike intro manual is up, it's in the bikes kb

Considering buying a BBSHD kit for my 2005 Specialized Rockhopper with 73 mm bottom bracket. I am a little confused with what chainring to buy. Joel recommended a Luna Eclipse Face and a 42 T chainring, and on a later call, Joe recommended the Luna Chainring adapter with 40T . After reading in the Electric Bike forum about compatible bikes and builds, I found a 2006 Rockhopper build with the following quote:

What I realized was a mistake was buying the chainring with the kit. What you should do is install the kit with the cheapo one that it comes with
and check the chain line, then buy the chainring that has the correct setback check this thread for sizing http://electricbike.com/forum/forum/...heels-compared. Mine ended up way out around 60mm instead of the 43mm it should be. So i couldn't use 2 of my 9 gears. With the BBSHD its fine because it does well even with 7, but I wanted to have everything aligned so i got the Lekkie chainring. With it the chainring came too close to the frame and rubbed so i had to space is back out with a 2mm spacer, and finally i could use all the gears. I will need to sell my Luna chainring because i have no more use for it.

This sounds like I should order the Lekkie chainring and spacers. Would you agree?

Because of the presence of the motor taking up space, the point where a chainring would mount onto the motor is pushed out to the right from where a chainring would normally be. Offset is defined as how much distance you are able to bring the sprocket closer towards the frame. This results in a better chainline, less likelihood

This is the new chainring documentation link please check it out.
Ultimately it doesn't matter which chainring as much as it used to thanks to Joe's documentation on reworking cassettes. But if you don't want to do that the eclipse gives you the most options for offset, and the lekkie also does this well (but only depending on the size. See the link for offset comparisons) stock steel is a perfectly fine starting point btw

I have a trek 4300 w/ 750w BBS02 and 48v Luna Shark battery pack. I want to upgrade to the 3000w cyclone and power it with a 72v battery. Is there a way that I can just get a 24v battery and then connect the 48v and 24v battery together to get a total of 72v combined watts?

          Hi

I never seen someone doing this but theoretically it would be possible if the 24V pack is made from the same cells and configured in a 4P like the 48V then put in series.

Would I recommend this? No!!! Get a proper 72V pack with a 40amp (or more) capable BMS.

Please read the last post on this thread : https://electricbike.com/forum/forum...d-li-ion-packs

I lost a couple of chainring bolts off my Luna Tick... well, one fell out because the vibration worked it loose without me noticing, and then the other ones sheared off from it being uneven. They are the ones that go through the freewheel. What kind of replacement bolts should I buy?

Chainring bolts come in multiple widths, called single, double, triple. Measure one of yours and buy a new set on Amazon.

Just starting my first build and don't really understand where the speed sensor should be mounted, closer to the outer rim or closer to the hub?

Makes no input difference. Wheel revolution is a revolution.

The main determination will be dictated by where the sensor/magnet can be mounted and adjusted so that it's 2-4mm air gap where the spoke magnet passes the face of the sensor.

See here for more info - https://electricbike.com/forum/forum...-for-the-bbsxx

I saw a build with the same donor bike as I, where he used a 2.5mm spacer with a Luna Eclipse chainring to give a good chainline that also cleared the chainstay.

So I figured I would buy the 3.3mm spacer with the Eclipse to get about the same. I saw some reviews that said I need M5*20 screws instead of the M5*15 screws that are included? Is this correct? How many should I buy?

Sure it's possible you might need longer bolts with enough spacers. There are 5 bolts that bolt the chainring onto the motor.

Thanks! To clarify, your answer seems to imply that with just 1 spacer I would not need longer bolts than the ones included. Is that correct?

With bbs02 kit, do all displays ( Bafang C961 Display , Luna Full Color Custom, Luna DPC18 Full Color ) support 9 levels? Which of them can i remove easily from my bike and bring home/work to avoid theft?

I actually like Luna Full Color Custom because is horizontal and more discreet, do i will miss something about the DPC18? Are there differences in the programming with the programming cable?

The C961 lacks 9 support levels but the others have it. None of them are easily removable unless you don't mind just unplugging it. I would say all of the color displays are pretty much the same but have different graphical UI's and shapes.

Color Displays have the ability to read voltage of the battery vs Non-Color so you'll definitely want to go with the DPC-14, DPC-18 or 750c if you plan on using a 52v battery. Since the displays were designed with 48v in mind and won't display accurate levels with a 52v.

My older C961 supports 9 PAS levels. Maybe the newer versions differ? It's PITA to get into the advanced menu.
