This thread is really more for stuff specific to Luna as noted on the first entry on this thread so I don't have much support I can provide on random electrical connectors but if it plugs into that other piece with the xt connectors then it looks like it is just something for that adapter to plug into. If that is the case should be able to replace it with any connector you like that has the same number of pins, just put the matching one on the adapter. Or even remove that connector completely and hardwire it by cutting off the connectors and splicing the wires together.

Does a typical BMS reset itself after an Over Discharge event? Or does it need to be disconnected from power and restarted? How can I determine if its a BMS or a motor controller that's shutting down due to over current?Comment

Clue is if its BMS or controller is usually if its the controller the display (even if its just some lights) will stay on. If the BMS cuts things out everything on the bike will be dead.
As for the reset that really depends on the model and the firmware its running which often isn't identified. Some when they cool off or the voltage just naturally recovers a bit will turn themselves back on. Some need to be tricked by jumping specific pins in a specific order or sending them a specific voltage at a specific current for a specific period of time. Most common is to just charge them with their regular charger.

Hello! Can you confirm that the Luna Fixed Stealth, when the assist is fully off, is supposed to make a clicking sound (akin to freewheeling in other bikes) while pedaling? It doesn't as much when the motor is on.Comment

Hi Paxtana. Having an issue with my wife's BBHSD w/Luna Wolf2 battery build. After some normal riding mini 500C display goes black and system stops. Upon powering back up the PAS does not work and she has to use throttle to get the assist she needs. 30% of the time after reboot the PAS does work. No error codes and the problem is happening consistently on the last couple rides. Any troubleshooting ideas? Thanks!Comment

I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of a red aeronautical grease that can be packed in a motor to expand its lifespan? I am using a Bafang G510.750.W mid-mount motor for a high torque trailer hauling freight bicycle. We're burning the motors at about 1000 miles. I have researched the topic of motor burn and found some information on extending the lifespan by packing it in an aeronautical grease. Can anyone please advise me as to the feasibility of this pre-emptive measure having a life-extending effect on the motor?

My mind is drawing a blank right now on the model number of the Mobil grease that is most often recommended for the Bafang mid drives, hopefully someone else will remember it.
What is failing? You say burning? My first thought when the word burning is used isn't a lubrication issue unless you are seeing damaged gears. If what is burning is the motor windings or controller then I would be looking at things like are the bikes geared appropriately and are the riders shifting them when needed? The Bafang mid drives like to be operating at or even above the speed a typical person can pedal. If you are using pedal assist you want to be in a gear that is as high as you are comfortable pedaling. This is slower than the motor likes but since you are helping it balances out. If you are going throttle only basically you should not be able to keep up. You may need to re train your rider(s) and or change the gearing on your bike(s).

I sent an email, but wanted to check the forum as well. I did a DIY build BBSHD with a Micargi Seattle SS frame...really great ride. The problem was my derailluer wasn't going through all gears, so I started tweaking it. Found out that the bracket was bent. I straightened it and now it shifts through all 7 gears perfectly. But, now when it is in first gear the chain rubs against the rear tire. Question is....Is there a BBSHD 46T or larger chainring that has less offset than the stock BBSHD 46T?

How much space do you think you need? Luna sells a spacer that is 1.78mm thick that goes between the motor and ring.
Going from memory I think the stock ring has like an 18mm offset. Most of the Lekkies are 19mm. The Luna Eclipse are 24mm I think, The other option if you really don't need offset is the mini rings which tend to be about 9mm offset or if you like the big size a BCD adapter which is the spider hub sort of thing that then uses 'regular' chain rings. The ones Luna sells are 130BCD. The 130 is the spacing between the bolt holes so you would look for a 130 ring with how ever many teeth and style you want. Those all would be in that 9mm range which is about a 10mm move from where you are now. That should really help your tire rubbing but may get to be too much angle for 1st gear? Depending on your setup a gear tends to be 3-4mm. -

Hello, I ordered an Eggrider v2 display to put on my BBSHD bike. Before attempting any programming, I wanted to ensure both the motor and the display were at their latest firmware versions. The Eggrider looks straighforward enough, but I am having trouble finding any sort of repository of BBSHD firmware versions. I have come across some firmware walkthroughs with links to files around the internet, but I often have no way of knowing how old they are. I want to get ahold of the latest firmware bin files as well as the latest flashing programs.
Where is a reliable place to I download these items? If it makes any difference, I purchased the Eggrider from Luna, and the BBSHD elsewhere.Comment

The *only* reason to flash firmware IMO would be to address a specific issue you are having. The list of issues that flashing firmware can address is limited to pretty much if the firmware has undesirable limits on current or voltage (e.g. there are some that won't work with 52V batteries and some limit current to less than 30A) or they have an issue with being unable to use the throttle properly while pedaling... outside that not really any benefit... it's far from a robust loading process, not well suited for typical users and there's no way to restore the previous version (i.e. it can't be read out)...

I very recently bought a new 30a controller for a 2018 BBSHD motor. I changed the battery plug to a XT90 So that it would connect to the battery from the same company. I got an error 10h.It was brand new and cold. I contacted support and they said that they had forgotten to flash the controller but of course, wouldn't take it back as I had changed the connector so that I could use it. Understandable. They don't seem willing to flash it for me. SO how can I do it myself? Right now it is just an expensive brick so there is not much risk. Thanks!Comment

BBS02 Speed sensor is not working
The speed sensor is not registering any MPH's - I have multiple builds under my belt.
The sensor does not light up when the motor is turned on, nor does it provide the speed.
I have so far;
1. Confirmed the magnet and sensor are close enough
2. Changed both magnet and sensor out for ones I know are operational
3. Continuity check on the extension wire
4. Tested without extension wire (mounted on Delta trike)
5. Purchased and installed a new BBS02 Luna controller unit
I wrongly assumed it must be a problem in the controller unit but there is no red power light and it still does not register any speed.

It sounds like you have already replaced every component that would have anything to do with the issue. Even the replacement controller by itself without the motor could be plugged into the sensor and have the magnet swiped across it to test if it flashes (not all have the red light on and flash off, some are off and flash on btw). I would probably start troubleshooting over again and double check, maybe you missed something.

Controller meaning the electronic dodad that bolts to the motor housing that includes new wiring including the lead to the speed sensor? Or are you talking about the display?
Its not something dumb where you have a broken pin in one of the cables that has now damaged that connector on both controllers? -
Yes the pins are fragile and may benefit from conductive 'bulb grease'
Tiny copper strands in your sensor 'cable' could be stretched and broken, a few retained which yields continuity without sufficient current/_milliamps
Or you mention extension cable could introduce added resistance along with added connector resistance powered by only 5V ( I think )
Or add small ( right sized ) super magnets to the rotating target to increase it's affect upon the sensor.Last edited by Mike_V; 06-06-2022, 02:36 PM.

My motor is sounding really loud like a scratchy whirring, recently its gotten louder, although it lessens depending on the gear, but I'm wondering should I open the motor and check the magnet or is this a ferro fuel indicator. I've been hesitant to open this as I'm a newb but after research i found either the magnet is loose or might need grease. It doesn't sound like anything got loose or is bouncing around or tapping, just a constant whirring that's quite high pitched
Can I have some options to check into?
Motor is bafang bbshd 1000w. It's driven only 1180km.Comment

If you have dpc240 monochrome display I would check the plugs on the back as shown on the setup video https://youtu.be/qdcp_3PuJNA
Would also check the switch is turned on if you have one of the ones where that switch is there, on the ones we are shipping as of few days ago we bypass the switch so it is always on to reduce a potential point of failure. If yours is already bypassed there will be a sticker on it.
