When I put my email in to receive info about a certain mountain bike that is apparently not in stock it says I must choose a frame size - but it doesn't list a frame size so I can't submit my email. I'm interested in the 2016 Luna SixFifty 2500 KHS or the Luna Giant Stance 2. By the way I'm 5'8" so when I go to the KHS website they say I need a medium frame - do either of these bikes come in a medium frame? I saw one was extra large only to fit the battery in the triangle. If that is the case what mtn bike would fit me that you sell? Greg -

Sorry man I don't think either of those are going to be back anytime soon. Definitely not the 2016, we cleaned out khs supply and there's no more source for that model year. If we do another stance production run we will probably do it with our fusion packs so it would be a new listing.
I would pick a frame you can add to cart.

I love my Electra Ghostrider and am looking for the best approach to e-bike conversion. The main thing I can't find is matching hub kits for the smaller/wider wheels (rims/tire). Tires: 24"x3" Fatti-O, rims: approx. 21"x1.5", front dropout: 108mm, rear dropout: 130mm. It currently has a Shimano Nexus 3i and would assume it goes to a single gear if I use a rear hub. I like the look of a rear motor, but think the front motor is more practical if I want to maintain the 3speed rear. I was directed to this forum by Luna Cycle. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Can you spread the front dropouts, are they suspension forks or is that just a regular fork? If it's just regular and you can spread it you could probably go with the double torque and lace the hubmotor into the existing rim you already have, assuming it is 36h. You would need to spread it by at least a few millimeters.
Alternately you could go with a mid drive but you would need to lose that sweet chain guard, and you would need to retrofit the front fork so it can use disc brake or swap out the front fork entirely for one that can use disc brake.
-
You could also switch out the fork to one with wider dropouts and then run whatever front hub motor you want.
-
Thanks guys for responding. I can spread the forks as they are not suspension. It is 36h, but I am unfamiliar with lacing. Will it require custom length spokes or are they a standard item? A mid-drive may be an option as my front fork does have disc brake and a coaster brake on the back....

Will the Bafang BBS02 Mid Drive KIT work on a carbon fiber cross bike with a 73mm threaded bottom bracket?
Comment

BBSxx mid drives will fit any standard BSA English threaded bottom bracket, so the bottom bracket wouldn't necessarily be the issue. However there are differences in how different frame materials perform in real-world conditions when you put a bunch of power through it that the frame was not designed for. I think it would be worth a shot but we can't make guarantees and it might be a good idea to have a different donor bike as a backup if you see the frame flexing a lot

My DPC-14's display does not turn on, but the control works. This morning I dropped my battery pack and my bafang didn't turn on, and I thought the battery pack died from the shock. Strangely, I found out that the battery pack was ok, but the display is not. My ebike worked fine and rides were uneventful.
The display does not turn on. But the control works. If I turn on the switch on my battery pack, I guess it is set to PAS1. Throttle also works. And, the PAS setting seems to be working. And, the USB port on the display also works, being able to charge my iPhone.
So, one strange thing is that it just turns on automatically if I turn on the battery's switch. Before then, I had to turn on the Bafang with the control. The other strange thing, which may or may not be related with the dead screen, is that the display often resets, recently. My password setting, for example, simply disappears and I don't try to set one anymore.
Is this a known problem? Any way to fix it besides replacing it?

Sounds like you do need to replace it. You might try opening it up this for the heck of it, who knows maybe you might see that something has come loose between the physical display and the circuit board. Alternately maybe something snagged while the battery fell, like the wiring harness, which might make the connection spotty? Hard to say as we haven't seen that sort of thing before but the next step past trying different display would be harness and then controller. It's going to be one of those for sure.

Hi Lunacycle,
Been enjoying my bike (KHS SixFifty 680+, 50A controller) for about a month, but wanted to report something that happened from day one but has been happening with greater and greater frequency until making my bike almost unusable.
Under load, my bike makes a really harsh loud 'click' sound. This happens particularly as I'm going faster on high gears. When it happens, the pedals suddenly 'miss' and if I'm forcing down on them I sometimes nearly lose my feet off the pedals.
I at first thought it was my fault and I should expect that the cassette shouldn't be able to keep up with the torque (because I thought it was the chain slipping). I reduced how much I throttled, and it happened less. But now it happens regularly just on holding the throttle down at constant speed, not during acceleration, and it's making the ride really unpleasant.
I looked carefully at the cassette and it appears to be fine. Also, when I pedal like a mofo I can't make it happen (and not to brag, but for data's sake, I'm pretty ****ing strong) so I don't think it's the chain slipping any more. Tried googling chainline, cassette issues etc. and I'm pretty sure it's not that... also don't think it's clutch as it isn't the whole motor that's stuck (when I read about clutch issues, it seems like the entire motor/pedal unit is immobilized).
Today I forced myself to look DOWN as I went forwards and held open the throttle and I could see the pedals moving violently. I think it's a problem with the motor.
Would appreciate guidance, and if something needs to be replaced please let me know.
Dana

Is there any extra noise during regular use besides this clicking sound you sometimes hear? Any sounds of grinding or metallic harshness or is it otherwise fairly silent?
Does this happen with a load or can you also make it do this if you just hit the throttle while it is up on a bike stand?
Can you get a video of it happening, if you can get it to do this while on a stand or if you happen to have a gopro you can point at the motor while going down the street?

Commuting in the rain question.
Have a Luna built bike which I love (Roam 2, BBSHD, Shark Pack, 750c Display).
What do I need to do to make the bike survive moist 20min commutes? In winter in Vancouver it'll rain for weeks on end, not hard, but always kind of wet. Will be able to store it dry on both ends of the commute.
Looking around here and Endless-sphere some use grease on the connectors. The DPC-14 really doesn't like the wet, but couldn't find much on the 750c. Not a ton of info I could find.

How resistant is the kit to large amounts of rain? The controller is potted (i.e. the circuitboard is encased in a resin) and there is a gasket that prevents moisture from getting in to the motor itself where the controller connects with the motor, and all of the wiring connectors are water resistant as well. Which all helps a
I would treat the 750c the same as the DPC-14 and just go over it lightly around any areas you think water can get in. Throttle, Control Pad, etc etc
Then finally I would open the motor and add silicone around the gaskets to ensure it's completely. Even though the Shark Pack is water resistant, I would probably recommending store it inside of a bike bag instead, or bagging it with plastic bag everytime you go out.

Hi,
this morning my wife Ordered a gear sensor for me.
I don't think I need it after all. The invoice # is 38939
Can I please cancel the order for now.
Thanks

I have a customer that has the Bafang BBSHD motor and would like to tone it down a bit. Do you have a "formula" for setting the motor to not be as powerful or a little bit more gentle? We bought it from Luna set to 750 watts but he wants it to be lighter assist.

I bought a Giant Momentum eBike for my wife a short time ago from Luna Cycles. She likes it a lot but she has one issue. The DPC-14 display always shows 100% battery remaining. The battery is set for a 48V battery. During a ride it will flash a percentage amount, say 93%, for a millisecond but then immediately return to 100%. When the ride is over is will show 100%. I did an upgrade with a Luna DPC-14 replacing my DPC-10 on my Karmic Koben S eBike and it shows my battery % with no problems.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem on my wife's Giant eBike?

Those gauges are not very accurate. I don't know if you've got a 52v pack but if so it won't ever be accurate, but even with the 48v it's not dependable to have anything but a vague idea. You may get a bit better idea pressing the button on the battery itself to see how many lights light up, but this is also not ideal.
Best thing would be to wire in the Batt-man battery gauge which is purpose built to give you all the battery info you could ever want and can be custom programmed not only for your voltage but also your specific capacity so when you pull however many watt hours it deducts that from how many watt hours is in the pack and extrapolates that into an accutate graphical representation of remaining energy.

Paxtana, Luna Cycle built this bike with a 48V Panasonic Shark Pack 13.5 GA. It really seems like the battery display should work a bit better than not working at all. I agree that it is just a vague estimate, but always 100% is ridiculous. Shouldn't there be a better adjustment or fix than buying a $80 add-on?.
I suppose I'll have to make out a trouble ticket with Luna. It's still under warranty.Last edited by Norman S; 10-03-2017, 08:13 AM.

These are custom converted with Bafang kits for those that do not want to do the conversion themselves. Bafang does not produce a display with an accurate gauge, nobody does. Most people who use these kits just go off of the voltage readout which is on the DPC-14, which you can determine remaining capacity easily.
A lot of folks use the graphical readouts we have on the battery documentation pages, even print out a copy for reference. These readouts show how voltage relates to charge percentage. Here's the 48v one for example: https://electricbike.com/forum/filed...1&d=1506345676

The inherent flaw with % meters for battery pack capacity is that battery packs operate in two different stages/modes. One mode is resting. At rest the pack voltage rises up to it’s highest value. The other mode is “under load”. When the pack is delivering power the voltage drops in somewhat unpredictable ways.
Since loads vary during the operational envelope that makes voltage drop sort of a “moving goalpost” type of situation. This is mainly why % are practically useless for battery capacity estimation and this is fairly well agreed upon in the eBike industry.
I notice my battery icon never drops much if any when I ride sedately. But when I become more aggressive and use more peaks of power I notice a little more activity with the battery icon symbol. Women usually ride easier on motor power than men so the "averaging circuit" often sees less high-low peaks to determine what % or gauge level it chooses to display.
I believe this merely to be the limitations of such a crude metering system and not a defect. If people desire more useful SOC information it's best to use a volt meter of some type. Either built-in to the dash/display or add a cheap/simple volt meter to better estimate and understand SOC of the battery pack.Last edited by ykick; 10-04-2017, 06:36 AM.

Hi. Question on the dcp14 display..... in Analog mode, there appears a circular arc... mostly blue... on the left side. When you ride and begin to pull power, an orange arc develops, and increases in size as consumption increases.WHAT DOES THE BLUE ARC REPRESENT???
Thanks!

Hi the DPC-18 and the 750C has circular analog gauges... The DPC-14 does not.
Can you confirm the model you have and check the listings, they have link on the manuals:

Good morning!
I just wanted to ask (and please don't be biased towards the company lol), which eBike conversion kit is better:
Bafang BBSHD 1000w or the Passion eBike 1500w ...
I am very confused because the passion eBike has very good reviews on aliexpress and some other websites... but the BBSHD is renown for its amazing experience. Plus, based on videos of the Passion eBike, it seems to be much quieter too (which I LOVE). I also honestly am not very experienced at all with "engineering" of any sort.
One other question I have is that is it possible to use an LCD Display of another manufacturer on my eBike? ex. the LCD of a BBSHD with the passion eBike kit?
My last question is that is it possible to fit a 7x3 (21 speed) eBike conversion kit onto an 8x3 (24 speed) bike? Specifically this one: Gravity FSX 1.0

This is an ask Luna thread..not many companies are going to tell you to buy your motor from another company so take it with a grain of salt, but BBSHD is better than any hubmotor. Hubmotors are old technology. If you value durability over enjoying the ride a hub might have its place, but nothing really compares to the feeling of a mid drive.
No you cannot use BBSHD displays on anything but bafang mid drives.
