I depend on my ebikes for transportation to work so I have an extra battery and three extra chargers. It is nice to have that extra charger ready for service when a charger dies (not that I'm saying that you have a dead charger).

Having an extra battery and charger makes troubleshooting a breeze because you can substitute "known working" components in to the system that you are troubleshooting. I use this troubleshooting shortcut for mechanical components, too.

As an aside, if somebody plans all of their ebikes to use as many shared components as possible, they can stock less spare parts.

That’s a good idea and I’ll probably go there. This charger is only a week old and has only made one charge, so I hope they aren’t that delicate.

They are not. If you just got it, the charger should have included an adapter that prevents this. It goes on the xt60 between the barrel adapter, it comes in a little bag that says fix adapter. The charger is just trickle charging until it gets to a higher pack voltage but the adapter will make it charge at full speed regardless of pack voltage.

Ah ha!!! I do have that barrel connector but I had no idea what it was for. I don’t think there’s any documentation describing what it’s for or several other connectors that came with the kit.paxtana

I purchased a BBSHD from Lunacycle got it installed and everything working until I broke the display. Not really needed the display I decided to operate the until without to clear up space on the handle bars. My question is I want to default my PAS to level 6 through the programmer. However on my display (before I broke it) I didn't change it to give me all 9 levels of PAS. Is there any way I can add all 9 levels of PAS without the display? Say if I want to pick 6,7,8 or 9?

I don't think this is possible unfortunately. As those settings are saved in the display itself and not the controller.

So if I were to barrow a display and make the changes would that work?

No, since the changes are stored on the display itself. How broke is the display? If it's completely not functional, and you're using a programming cable in place of it, you will only get access to PAS 1 only with no ability to change.

Okay the barrel connector adapter did the job! I just wish there would have been something in the kit that would have explained what this was for.

So I hooked it up to the charger just as I did the first time and the charger just clicks off and on. Here’s an example of what it doing. Please advice! https://youtu.be/qeL0Ml4irZ0

Good evening (out here in PA), I just got a 2016 Salsa Mukluk S7 and want to put a BBSHD on it. It has a pressfit 41x121 bottom bracket.

Will the 120 mm fit OK?

          Thanks!

          Scott.

Thanks for the input. That is about what I thought and really appreciate the input. There is not a newer version of the BBSHD coming out in the next few months, is there? I don't need it right now and just thought I would ask.

            Have a great night.

I have the exact same bike and I'm ready to purchase my BBSHD. I have some concerns about the chain line. Are you far enough along to talk about any chain line issues?

          Hi all!

I am asking all around about this- but figured I'd post here too. I have a 4 wheel SURREY style bicycle that I purchased years ago from a beach rental shop here in Southern California.

I fixed it up and got it working very nicely, but then we moved to a neighborhood with lots more hills (and the kids got bigger/heavier!), so we could use some help.

So I'm looking to add a hub motor to one, or maybe at some point both of the rear wheels. The wheels use 2.25" x 18" moped style wheels with a wide dropout of 150mm. I'd also like to retain a chainring if possible, so that we can still pedal to help out.

Does anyone know where I might turn to get help acquiring something like this? I'll see if I can attach some info here too.

          Thanks again for any help!
          Jim

Hi Jim - I have a similar Surrey that i would like to electrify for the Texas School for the Blind. However, cant seem to find anyone that has done this project. Did you complete by chance? Maybe help me out with some suggestions?

I'd probably look to have someone do the work, at least the lacing of the motor into that moped wheel and axle/freewheel part. Later, I can work on adding the batteries, controller, etc.. But I think the wheel/motor/axle/chainring part may be tough for me-- I'd love to buy that and be able to drop it in the existing spot, if that makes sense?

I have been riding my LunaCycle KHS Urban Extreme to an from work for a month or so now and I keep on having issues were during my commute my rear tire will get wobbly and a spoke will break. I am a larger rider 6'4" 250lbs. plus with the motor and battery pack the bike is heavy. I tried switching to the lowest gear to remove some of the torque on the rear wheel but it's still happening. Do I need to swap out my rear wheel with something like a tandem bike wheel to keep this from happening?

As with any bike bought online it is a good idea to take it to your local bike shop for a tuneup and inspection, where they would do stuff like check the wheel is true, check headset, check brakes and so on. It obviously should not be wobbling and sounds like it is out of true. This can be magnified by high speeds. I could see how higher weight at high speeds on an out of round wheel might be more likely to break a spoke.

Did you replace the broken spokes or just keep riding it like that?

I think you need to take it to a bike shop. Likely you could swap out the spokes for something more tough like Sapim Strong by having the wheel re-laced with these spokes, and your shop can help with that if you want.

I replaced the spokes when they broke.
I rode for a week. Then when the wheel became untrue I took the bike to the shop to get the tire trued. Which you usually have to do with a new bike.
I kept riding and when i hit a speed bump one day I broke a spoke and the bike became wobbly again.
I took it to the shop they replaced the spoke and trued the wheel.
I changed my gearing to the smallest gear thinking that it would put less torque on the rear wheel. I rode it this week for four days and the spoke broke and the wheel became untrue again.

I'll talk with the shop and see what they recommend, I weighed myself with the bike and it's around 340# so I'm putting quite a bit of strain on the wheels. Which was why I was thinking maybe a tandem tires that are designed for two people.
I'm also going to get a Suntour suspension seat post to try and smooth out the jolts to the bike.

I have been riding for almost a year now. My solution to was to replace the wheels that came with the bike to wheels that are meant for a two person tandem bike. The torque from the motor was just too much for the standard wheels and spokes that came with the bike. I also put on the suspension seat post but I'm not sure how much that helped.

I have your 48v Luna Advanced charger. Sometimes it will charge up to 54.3v(not 54.6) and other times I would be lucky to get 50v. Can you explain this?

            Great. Thanks.

I need pas to work in reverse.i can get reverse with throttle. It dose not work with PAS, for obvious reasons. I dont know if it is software or hardware lock out. This lockout is to prevent a runaway situation where the motor would be spinning the hall sensor disc. My sensors are not connected to the drive system. My two kits are 3000w cyclone 52v triangle battery 40a controller. I am willing to buy new controllers with this saftey feature disabled if can not tell me how do this to my controllers. I am also willing to buy 12 more kits if i can get them to run reversed in natural state and run in reverse with PAS.

It may help if we knew more what you are trying to do.

I have a BBSHD 48v sharkpack and C961 display with a Luna twist throttle. Reprogrammed controller to End Voltage=42 for smooth throttle response. Only have 120 miles on bike and don't fully understand how PAS, throttle and pedaling are supposed to interact. With PAS at 0, throttle works smoothly and if I start pedaling the throttle action turns into the on off switch action before I changed the end voltage. When in PAS levels and pedaling the throttle acts like a switch also. Basically as soon I start pedaling, the throttle is a switch and doesn't come on till at least half throttle. What am I missing and if I need to change the programming, what changes do I need to make?

Sounds like you have the newer controllers from Bafang which currently don't support pedaling + throttling at the same time like the older ones did. You can either do one or the other but not both at once. We're definitely not happy about this change but it was Bafang's decision it seems. And if you're wondering, it cannot be re-programmed or changed as we have tried and the issue seems to continue to persist even afterwards unfortunately. So you're kind of stuck with it unless you can get your hands on an OG controller from somewhere.

What happened to this: (as per Paxtana in the Throttle and Pedaling thread)

The overall issue has been dealt with directly by Bafang, both on BBS02 and BBSHD, though how they dealt with it differs. BBS02: They evaluated the issue and improved how the latest BBS02 throttle/pas interoperates while still allowing what they had intended, i.e. dialing the power down if you give a tiny bit of throttle at low PAS. Latest production runs do not cut off completely in lowest PAS levels when giving a very small amount of throttle, though they are a bit dialed back. You can test this for yourself on the model your friend got. You might be able to tell a tiny difference if the throttle is at the lowest possible setting where it might slow down a little bit but this is only when using the lowest PAS setting in conjunction with the lowest amount of throttle. With BBS02, what your friend got which you stated is "fine" is the new normal, as designed by Bafang.

BBSHD: WITH THE LATEST BBSHD THERE IS NO DIALING BACK POWER AT ALL, NO CUTOUTS AT ALL, REGARDLESS OF PAS OR THROTTLE LEVEL.

Both of these models have been tested from Bafang's latest batches to confirm these findings.

Matt's issue was likely because he ordered a bare motor, not a kit. Bare motors are returned to inventory when we allow courtesy returns from customers needing a size exchange after ordering the wrong axle length as sometimes customers do, and as such it is sometimes a mixed batch from multiple production runs. It was not intentionally sent with cutouts, and it does not mean we are not helping people who have difficulties. I would have hoped you guys would have given us the benefit of the doubt instead of jumping to accusations.

If someone runs into an issue without getting it resolved they are welcome to request getting escalated to me (Gary), same goes for any support issue.

We will work with people on any concern they may have, just like we have always done. But getting upset about something without having all the information is not productive.

            This thread is closed.

            A few key points.
Luna is not responsible for everything Bafang does.
Their decisions affect all vendors, not just us.
Bafang makes no promotional materials, manuals or guarantees about throttle/pas priority whatsoever and their motor firmware is subject to change at any time with later batches.
No other company has been discussing this openly with the public for months on end. While some might take that as an open invitation to get riled up or talk trash specifically about us like it's our fault, our only intention is to help people. It would have been nice to keep this topic open but there is only so much vitriol we're willing to take.
For previously bought motors: We can flash BBSHD to improve this interoperation and we have limited supply of old stock BBS02. BBSHD controller can be flashed, BBS02 controller can be exchanged. If you previously bought we can offer to reprogram or exchange controller, depending on the model and at our discretion. This is a courtesy service, not an obligation.
If you are looking for answers, read the top paragraph on this post, that is our official position as of December 2017. It is subject to change depending on what Bafang does.

We could give it a try but several folks we provided that service for just ended up complaining even after we flashed it.

I hear HPC has some older controllers if you want to swap it out.

          Hi everyone,
I have been looking at the Apocalypse v2 now for awhile. I live in Cali where scooters are street legal in most places and have been using a e-scooter to commute to work for awhile now and love it (get there faster then by car) and was looking for something a bit more powerful to deal with hills. The only thing holding me back, is that I have gotten rather attached to my scooter having a seat on it. Not just to sit on but also to attach a bike luggage rack to to bring home groceries etc that I can't carry in a backpack alone.

I noticed the body profile of the Apocalypse matches the form and shape of the Dualtron series popular in Singapore. Any idea if a Dualtron seat would fit on my Apocalypse or if Luna plans to make a seat attachment that bolts done to the floor battery hex screws?

          Thanks,
          Chris

Yes there are places you could put bolts on the deck. I don't think we can guarantee compatibility since it is not a mod we have seen but likely it would work with common seatposts for standup scooters.

That said, I would not necessarily recommend doing so. If you were to hit full throttle while using max power settings and sitting down, there is a good chance the torque could be so powerful it throws you off the seat. This is much more powerful than a typical standup electric scooter.

Might be ok as long as you leave enabled the kickstart setting though.
