THINNstem is THE solution for the Eclipse bars.

Still waiting for eclipse delivery, but learning much from everybody here, and ordering lots of parts to make my ride better.
Bob from FlatBike hooked me up with the "flatten your bike" kit. Fn A!!! pricey, but damn it's hi quality and the Wellgo quick release pedals and stow bag- so sweet!

Anyway, I'm looking at the thinnstem, and decided to remove the keeper cap on the bottom of the stem. It's there to prevent the yoke from lifting up all the way out of the tube when the clamp is released. Normally the plastic RETAINER cap allows just enough lift to clear the centering notch/lock to allow rotation of the handlebar.

Lifting the yoke and handlebars up ALL the way out of the tube is exactly what I want! I aint turnin my 90 degrees.

I expect some of you who already have the thinnstem and an eclipse will try this before I get to, but it's what I'm gonna do as soon as I can. I 'll make a padded sack that fits the bars/cables and tuck em in when folding the bike. My plan is to take the eclipse for airplane rides south and west when winter gets too long here.

Structural considerations? what do you think?

The retainer cap I'm removing is plastic, the 5mm nut it attaches to inside the tube is held in the tube with a spyder friction type anchor. The shear strength of either of these is WAY less than the 2"clamp that holds the yoke in the stem in it's centering notch.

SO, I deem it's use cosmetic only, there to cover a hole and only keep you from lifting bars too high while rotating.
After all who would ever want to lift their handlebars up and away from their bike in 3 seconds?

Folding Eclipse owners! just like I'm gonna be soon.

Got some good pics, but i'm having trouble posting them. This is a "from memory" copy of a post I lost last night trying to upload pics to it. almost cried! help please!

It is pretty good, but it's too easy to accidentally twist it or bump it on. I do a form of casual bikejoring with my dog, so I don't want it to accidentally trigger. Plus, I barely use it.

I have a thumb throttle on my other bike and it always worked great.

Nope no issues with the tire size. These huge rims seem to allow for a decent amount of variance in tire sizes (some people can fit thick scooter/moto tires).

Very Nice! Those tires look like they belong on the bike! Did the extra 1/4" tire width cause any clearance issues? I want em!

I'll be following you on the the thumb throttle and fenders search so keep posting. I vote NO on big gunky fenders and anything that rattles or shakes

Fedex says my new Eclipse still 6 days away so maybe that splains why I been drooling over the shot of your bike for the last half hour. Bicycle porn?

Nah, you just got a good lookin bike!

I just threw some Vee Moto BDGR tires on (from Super73) for a bit more traction on trails and beaches. Still great on the road with low road noise, but has some tread when I need it.

I think once I install some fenders and a thumb throttle, I should be pretty much done.

Has anyone here installed any fender kits yet?

I've got a handful of links bookmarked, but just curious if anyone has already had any success with a particular set.

You could replace the whole thing with a nice hydro like shimano slx. A front or rear slx brake lever plus hydraulic line and rear caliper is often around $100 and it is ready to go, just bolt it on in place of the original brake, takes like five minutes. Even has new pads already installed.

You could also go with a cheaper hydro set like say deore for similar results, if you wanted to.

As far as rotors any standard 6 hole rotor will work. One of the higher quality models is icetek, that is what i would use if going with the front, a larger rotor like a 203 is always good too as that significantly ups your braking power. Both brand and size is much less important for rear since that is mostly just the low traction brake, any typical generic 160mm would be fine there.

Is it possible to get replacement brakes on this bike? I have a loose lever and the rear rotor is bent.

Good range. At 400 miles the bike is working better than new. Seems almost silent.
