New model just announced, this is a full suspension folding frame with geared hub and fatbike tires, battery hidden in frame for extra stealth.

Folds up small enough to toss one or two into the trunk of a car so you can take it on far off adventures.

Battery uses high quality MJ1 cells

    Beefy 1000w Bafang rear hub

Belt drive means low maintenance for the drivetrain

    Twist throttle

could this be used as a mountain bike?

Yes you could use it as a mountain bike. The rims are 20" but because the tires are fat the overall tire diameter is around 26", which would be doable on trails, and you got full suspension on top of that plush ride from having fat tires. Ideally would want to swap out the street tires for knobbies if doing singletrack though.

I have been strongly considering this as an addition to my own personal bikes for this same purpose. Would be so much easier to toss one of these in a car and head to various far away forests rather than messing around with a trailer or bike rack like I would have to do with full size bikes.

This is the bike I think I've been looking for all this time. Does anyone know if Luna Cycles allows test rides at their HQ?

Exciting bike (for a hub motor), yet wondering about 'geared hub' designation. Might there be variations in production model that preclude saying how many speeds or what kind of gears are involved?

The bafang geared hubs are typically fixed ratio planetary gearsets

A quote from Luna Support in the Eclipse ebike question section regarding the hub:

This video shows how a geared hub works https://youtu.be/pH-52IgJui8 Basically electric motors are most efficient at high RPM so these gears dial that down so it outputs a more usable RPM. This results in a good amount of torque and efficiency. Compared to other ebike motors like direct drive and mid drive, geared hubs are in the middle in terms of balancing complexity with efficiency.

I've got both a mid and a geared rear hub

One bike is a 750/1000W bafang geared hub (planetary reduction) and the other a BBSHD (bafang 1000/1500W mid)

Is this bike actually in stock and would ship within the week or if I pay for it now would it be more of a pre order and arrive in June or July?

Yes it is in stock. Typically bikes do ship within roughly a week of the order. It is not on preorder.

Typically you would order online and use the 'pick up in store' shipping option then wait for the notification email that it is ready for pickup. I can not stop you from going there tomorrow but whether you can pick it up without the notification, hard to say. If you are really pressed for time then might be worth a shot but otherwise I would recommend to wait for the email.

Thanks for the response. I pulled the trigger and ordered mine and am really excited since these are the exact specs I would have for a bike under 3k. I really hope that I get the bike before the end of the month since I only plan on using my car to commute when it's raining due to the gas price and now that I'm 30 I need to do whatever I can to stay in shape. Haven't been on 2 wheels since I sold my 2018 GSX-S 750Z so I'm excited.
