Any further updates on BBSHD (68-73mm, in my case) availability?
Please do put me on the list to notify, if you would.
Thanks !

Sure thing we will get back to you!
No updates as of yet, still waiting on them to get delivered from the port. We got this email:
"Dear Valued Customer,
The backlog of shipments from COVID-19 has resulted in extreme terminal congestion and chassis shortage at US West Coast ports, causing many customers to experience delays receiving their containers, securing chassis, making appointments, and finding truckers. According to JOC, the surge is creating "monumental strains on a system that has historically been unable to marshal significant surge capacity."
We apologize for any delays or inconveniences this may cause and are working closely with our carrier partners to secure chassis, appointments, and trucking for our customers.
Should you have any questions regarding this update, please contact your Customer Service representative."

Unless the website has been updated in error, it looks like the standard and fat BB sizes of BBSHD are back in stock. I hope it's not a website error since I just ordered one!
Paxtana can you please confirm that you do indeed have the BBSHDs again? I was about to consider buying something else but I'm glad I waited.

I don't understand the website as far as the Fat Galaxy availability. It says they are available but as soon as I choose ANY options it changes to say unavailable. Even when I switch back to the original options. Are they available or not?
Thanks,
Perry

I think that is how their site works with the option thing. It may not have a 'out of stock' on the thumbnail but if all the key or required parts are not available it will just blank out those options and make it look like you can still choose other things. The key is usually a red bar pops up at the top of your screen after a few seconds that says something like all sizes are out of stock.

paxtana - I’d like to have the steel gear that came out of my X-1 as a backup please. My order number is 131702 for a standard X-1 with Silent gear and the bike was delivered on Oct.7. Let me know if there’s something specific I need to do on my end. Thank you for your efforts to support Luna customers!

Question for the Luna folks, I was expecting to see most things in stock again being that many parts of the USA have gone into fall/winter mode where cycling really falls off. Is demand still that high? Or is it just the world demand is still high because of varying climates and seasons so you just can't get inventory?

Depends on the item you are referring to. If something has been moved to the Archived category it is likely to be discontinued. As to things that need to be machined, lead time from some machine shops can take many months. Same thing with certain bike parts from factories like DNM and RST. Other stuff like certain batteries may not have much production lead time but usually has a lower restock priority than something like BBSHD or Sur-Ron.

I'm not really talking specific luna made products I'm more wondering big picture wise? Are companies like Bafang and Shimano running 24/7 and still not able to keep up with orders? Or is it just such a complex system and industry that they can't or won't increase production and the demand the last 6 months has just been huge? I wonder how much production expansion went on or is going on in the industry or if those people are just playing it safe and not investing a lot in expansion that they would not be able to support if the industry goes back to normal?
A local regional chain bike shop said they are just now starting to get a trickle of new bikes in that they ordered right about the time all this crap started 6 months ago. All summer long all they had to sell was the stock they bought over the winter that normally is enough for the summer. I would imagine companies like Trek and Specialized were cranking out extra bikes but they were likely going to national stores and distributors.

Well yes the entire bike industry has seen a huge uptick in demand this year, not just ebikes either. Electric bikes were the only growth segment in the industry, everything else has seen steady declines for decades. The industry was unprepared for the demand brought on by people wanting to leave the house but still be far away from others, and that is reflected in a lot of ways, whether it is wait times at local bike shops, parts from various suppliers and so on. At Luna we have operated under the pressure of high demand since the company was founded, so we handle it same way we always do; prioritization. That does mean some parts can take forever to be restocked, but for a company with about a thousand different products we are fine with that.
