    Why no modular rebuildable packs

I have no technical expertise, but wondering why we don't see any modular rebuildable packs where a user can easily put together in parallel or series the ah and volts they need. Modules where the individual cells could be replaced. 18650 cells seem like AA batteries, why can't we replace them like that? My guess is that it has to do with the BMS, charging issues, how hot the contacts get, or a whole host of other technical reasons, but maybe someone with building experience can chime in. I just wonder why we are all stuck buying chunky packs that can malfunction causing us to do advanced diagnostics to troubleshoot when there should be a better solution. Maybe Luna can invent a whole new product here. Thoughts?

Many of us have wanted the same thing. There are dozens of posts on endless_sphere. One company came out with a rebuildable 36V but the marketing never got off the ground. LOTS of us are looking and waiting for someone to do this.

No cyclone for me, just a bbs02.

This appears to be what I'm looking for as far as modular batteries, but has anyone field tested these yet? Not sure how to hook up the BMS either. http://www.batteryblocs.com/

Anything that's rebuildable by the customer has a lot of liability issues (customer screws up, burns house down, sues manufacturer in hopes of getting paid something to just "go away").

I have some ideas to moderate those concerns, but it remains to be seen. There have been several packs designed along these lines as projects, but nothing has resulted in a product that customers can buy.

We have those modular rebuildable packs. They are called RC Lipo.

Wouldn't that be fun to watch! Charging in the BBQ and no winter batteries. No thanks. Hopefully EBF won't devolve into a Lipo board.

Luna has made a fantastic advance in making packs more rebuildable recently IMO.. not sure it's my place to talk about this recent development though. But we're working on it :)
