    Lipo wont charge after short-circuit

    Hi.
Ive got a 4 cable Lipo Battery that runs just fine. However the charging does not work anymore. My daughter accidentally put a screwdriver in the charging socket on the bike. It clearly short-circuit the charging cable. I replaced the socket that was a bit burned. But the battery does not want to charge anymore. The green light on the charger stays green but it should be yellow when plugged in on the bike. So I assume it does not get any voltage, its always green when the bike is unplugged or fully charged.

So the question, can a short-circuit in the two charging cables, cause a malfunction of the battery controller (or any other electronics) in the actually battery? Otherwise its a cable issue...

    thanks for any tips

Yes the type of batteries commonly found on E bikes have electronics in the battery packs called a BMS. Typically the discharge port runs through the BMS but the only control it has over it is ON or OFF. The charge port leads to the brains of the operation where it controls and monitors the charge rate to the individual groups of cells inside the pack. Without knowing any details about the design of the specific BMS board in your pack its hard to guess what happened but seems like the brains of the board cold have got fried. I do sometimes hear about some packs with fuses but I don't know any details about which ones or what the fuse did or how to access the fuse.

Ahh. thanks. Thats would explain it in such case. I will take the plastic off and se what I can find. :)

its a eBay battery, so no guessing what might be inside. But its has done its job well the last 3-4 years.
