2004 Santa Cruz Blur build

    I did another trail ride this morning, and I think this program is pretty well hammered out to my satisfaction on my Nomad. With proper hydro brake sensing and shift sensor, I have excellent control no matter how much power level is selected. That said, the roll into power is very smooth. This was the most annoying feature of this motor on the first real mountain bike ride. You really had to watch your pedal inputs at key times as far as corners, obstacles, etc. The throttle was also twitchy as heck. The overrun, or power after pedaling stopped, was also tricky. Those elements on the pedal assist tab like start current, slow-start, crank trigger, and the others were critical to removing this, and start current was especially critical to the throttle. So far I'm loving this motor application on a mountain bike. I read and heard a lot of negativity as to how this mid-drive kit would be a poor choice for real mountain biking. I'm not seeing that at all. A top drawer factory emtb like a Trek, Specialized, etc. is smoother, but the BBSHD is more than smooth enough once you knock off the rough edges.

      Hello Santa Cruz BBSHD Riders - I've got a 2005 Blur LT I've built up (details below).

      My question is regarding suspension pivot bearings. How are yours holding up?

      My original set was fine for years of riding then the bike sat for 8 years and I built it up with the BBSHD and started riding in the wet, sandy, PNW winter. After a couple dozen rides, the back end was sliding out with the amount of play in the rear triangle.

      I got new bearings/axles from Santa Cruz and had them all replaced - it was tight and rode great. After a dozen rides in good weather around Mammoth and Santa Cruz the rear end has tons of play again. What have your experiences been?

      Also - Based on the dimensions given for the WolfPack and Shark - it was clear that the Wolf wouldn't fit, but I see a few of you with WolfPacks, Curious what your experience has been - anyone have the same LT size large frame?

      Besides this, I've loved the build!

      Bike: 2005 Blur LT - Size Large
      Groupset: BOX Components, Box Two - 9 speed wide ratio cassette
      Display: EggRiderV2
      Chain Ring: Luna Eclipse 42t
      Throttle: 1/2 Twist or Thumb
      Battery: 52v Shark Panasonic GA 13.5ah
      Additional:
      a. Gear Sensor (uninstalled)
      b. Glue on brake sensors (uninstalled)

      Note - I would not do a Box Components groupset again, the indexing is totally inconsistent, and I'm disappointed in the stability and durability of the EggRider V2.

        I was able to get a Wolf Pack to work with my medium framed 2004 (non-LT) Santa Cruz Blur, but it's very tight. There is no rubbing and no chance of it. I printed out the template for the Wolf Pack and knew it would fit before I bought it. Here is mine with the Wolf Pack (great battery btw) ...

          Are you having/have you had any issues with the suspension pivots? I was been really surprised, how quickly after replacing them all, it got sloppy again.

          Good to hear about the Wolf Pack - I'll probably run with the Shark Pack I have for quite a while - If I get another, I think I'll probably go with one from UPP. As far as I can tell, the Sharks from Luna are just a rebranded UPP pack with a $200 markup.

            I've been pretty lucky regarding suspension pivots, but they do need replaced when worn out. Prior to adding the motor, I ran the heck out of this bike in sometimes very muddy situations. I've only replaced the pivots once several years ago. It's been pretty solid since.

              Thanks for the feedback - Just trying to avoid downtime!

              Not sure how, but yesterday, 6th gear on my Box Components cassette got totally bent out of shape - 5th was kinda my sweet spot for anything with substantial climbs... Now it's 4th to 7th - Pretty huge gap... Typically, 7-9 were just for riding when the motor (battery) was dead...

              Having a blast - but still got to work some of the little kinks...
