    BBS02 750w max amps on 52v

    My BBS02 came set to 22amps max - is it worth it / safe to put this up to 25 amps or best to leave as it is?

    I can only recommend you to step down the controller to 18A. You will preserve it much longer and you will almost not reduce its performances.

      Or you can Hook a thermometer to your motor so you can monitor how hot it gets. Then you can use higher amps and still not over heat the motor. Something like this is very cheap and easy to mount.

        Attaching an aquarium thermometer is not a good solution. An electrical thermocouple could be more interesting. But it must be attached to the sensitive points of the engine : the power MOSFETs in the controller. Do you know what the temperature limit should not be exceeded ?

        IMO the thermometer option is absolutely not practical and we lack information to correctly interpret the measurements.

        Yea your probably right. Theres no point to knowing when motors get hot. People will just keep riding them anyway till the motors fry... :D

        Mosfets are good for about 180 degrees at their case. As is the rest of the electronics. But these have a nylon gear in them that gets pretty soft at 180 degrees. So with temperature readings and a bit of knowledge about soft plastic, these motors will greatly benefit the riders if they ease up on the punishment when they get 130-140 degrees on the display. Its a pitty the maker didnt put the thermos on the bike display, but they are getting a ton of extra spare parts purchases as a result of that omission.

        As for "thermocouple", I just posted an example of a very cheap way to keep an eye on whats going on. So to each their own on how they choose to monitor. But any monitoring is way better than no monitoring, with people continually posting about amping up the motor power.

      All depends. 25Amps is fine if RPM's aren't too low and it's just peak transient output. It's likely too high for continuous use and that would just eat the battery anyway. At reasonable RPM, 15A is about top for continuous, 10A would likely be where I would keep it for continuous use regardless...

      From past experience I find 10A is sufficient for most real-world continuous use, I seldom use any more continuously and I've got a BBSHD that will easily handle that... I've set the max to 30A but it's super rare I even use that for a peak transient - maybe just to zippity-doo-da across a busy street...
