Vintage electric bike replica - full build from the beginning - long story - 2 posts

For months I was surfing through the internet, watching all sorts of ebikes and of course my attention was pulled by Vintage electric bikes, I believe one of the best, one of the prettiest, and unfortunately one of the expensive ones.

Considering that it is was not possible for me to buy one, I decided to build one. My father in law is good welder and my brother knows his way with electronics...and in this story I will be called constructor.

In October I bought my self (for birthday) 500w, 48v motor. It is Indian GOGOA1 brushless gearless hub motor, and right away I started to draw and adjust frame to final look. I used some old bike to test electronics end its size for drawing scale.

During these days I found bike rim that could help me with its curves and shape so I made a cardboard model on it so we could follow my original drawing.

The box was next. I had to calculate dimension of battery pack an all other components that should be inside.

The most difficult peace was crowns for my triple tree so I started with wood, than paper and at the end I made 3D model on computer and send it to my friend who built it with CNC machine.

After decorating battery box, painting the rim with vintage green color and after couple hundred kilometers I realized that bike need front suspension so a disassembled front fork of Tomos automatic moped and modify it so it could fit my need (disk brakes).

This is final look of bike and I absolutely love it. After around 3000 kilometers and 2 years of riding I feel joy and happiness like the fist day when it was finished.

I sincerely hope that I made this post understandably and that this is not to much photos.

I must say that I truly admire work of guys in Vintage electric bikes and I cant take no credits for their hard work, design, idea...I didn't do this for commercialization, only for pleasure and lack of money to by a real thing.
