    Project Started

    Hey everyone.

    2018 DB Mason 2

    Luna Bbshd (1500 w, program) (68mm)

    Luna DPC 18 display

    Luna full twist throttle blue

    Gear sensor

    2x brake sensors

    TRIANGLE 52v Panasonic GA 18650 24ah

Fits perfectly in triangle bag within the frame.

Added some gun safe padding on the bottom and back side of bag. You could even use the packaging material in the luna box.

So far no struggles. Frame is for 68mm size bbshd, used 2 3mm spacers. Only thing is that there is no space for black lock nut. No biggie, enough space w/a little room left for the main gray lock nut. Threw some locktite, its secure. Had to stick with the stock chain ring :( with the 19mm spacing it fit perfect w/ less then a couple mm away from frame. Ordered the eclipse bling ring 42t from luna before I recieved the kit. Wish I could use that, looks awesome. Stock chain ring gave me the perfect chain line for the bike... go figure. Hopefully soon I can find one with similar offset of 19mm that has 36t or 42t, 46t is bit much for what I'm using it for, want more torque.

Hopefully I'll finish today, but having a 7m and 2y boys, who knows lol.

Also a big thanks to the Luna Team! They stand behind thier products and will help you trouble shoot whatever issue you may have w/the build and thier products.

Make sure to email them instead of calling. much faster response.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to build on a mason 2 or similar.

    - Chris

Just recieved the eclipse 3mm spacer. eclipse with 1 spacer fits perfectly w/about 1-.08mm away from frame. tested it on jumps, high speed, high load. no scrapes on frame! Only problem I ran into was I forgot to shorten the chain length after swapping it from stock. fixed and runs and sounds smooth! slightly better chainline too.

Got the last piece.. lekkie offset buzz bars... project done!

So this bike now hits 33mph according to Luna display on flats (188lbs rider, no wind, knobbies, last gear, all throttle) luna display set for the correct wheel size.

Also, those who have a street bike or motor cross back ground, full twist throttle is the way to go, and ditch the magnet alignment and directly epoxy the magnet on the brake sensor.

why would you epoxy the magnet directly to brake sensor?

@downshift. the way my break bars are designed it's really difficult to align the magnet to stay seated properly. barely any surface to epoxy the magnet. lost 1 the other day. just didnt see the need to have it aligned to shut the the motor off when applied. I have experience in street/dirt bikes in the past so I was just stating those who have experience (bc street/dirt bikes do not have a engine cutoff when brakes are applied) just to skip alignment and directly glue it to the sensor. not sure if I can just unplug it to bypass it or whatever as I'm a newbie and this is my first build.

Hi Chris - you're talking about the braking sensors / magnets, correct? If so, you're right, you can just unplug them. And, normally the magnets activate the sensor (and send the motor shutdown signal) when in proximity..

Yup. Awesome thanks brotha for the info. Thought this system would recognize the missing brake system and would shut down. should have tried it. Lol. well this will reduce the clutter of wires in the front. thanks again man!

@downshift, thanks for the kind words! I would definetly use the brake system correctly with the magnets if you have no experience in riding street/dirt bikes. the torque on these electric motors are pretty strong and depending if you have a full twist throttle you can easily, accidently throttle the motor and your bike will pop up quick.

Also for those interested in the full throttle from luna... the throttle seems to be linear but not as you expect on a street/dirt gas motor bike. that being said you can install the throttle to the point you dont have to twist to the full extent as 75% or so throttle twist + is the same output.... what I mean is once its twisted about 75% it's all the same. this definetly helps give you better mobility on the twist when riding if you adjust the install right...

Just changed out the knobbies for a pair of Schwalbe super moto X, 27.5 x 2.8. sweet tires for the streets. havent tried them yet on loose packed gravel. have a feeling with the power of bbshd it will be a little sketchy and I do not think it will get grip on grass uphill.

These tires added 3mph according to luna display.

So now @35.5 mph on flats (30psi back and front/max psi is 45 for these tires, some wind resistance, battery was @56.3v if that even matters, 188lbs rider with a about 50lbs bike, tucked down, full throttle) I think with about 40psi it might hit 36+.

Knobbies were 32.7mph (rounded last comment to 33) no wind, full charge @58.7v, 34psi front and back/max psi for these tires 35psi, tucked down, full throttle.

                    "I have a 52v 24ah Panasonic ga triangle pack...
                    Bbshd programmed for 1500w."
Correct tire size set on display..
Both runs on a luna eclipse. with stock I bet its 1-3mph faster.

I'll try to get a gps speed next time when I get a chance.

Saw a post that many saying these bbshd wont go over 30mph. I beg to differ, hot rod it to a 52v battery and get atleast the "hot rod" programming from luna,42+ chain ring and some good street tires, they will; unless the speedo on these displays are waaaaay off.

Wish I could get the ludacris controller :(

We need a online petition to get luna to sell those individually lmao..

I too am liking the Schwalbe super moto X. The ride is quite nice, and I'm hoping they're close to as flat-resistant as the Schwalbe Marathon 700C tires have been on my commuter.

I bought a "good enough" (less than $10), easy on/off cell phone handlebar mount via eBay, and use it just to proof the Bafang speedometer after the build is done. So far, once configured the two agree within 1MPH.

Yeah great tires for the streets. I'm able to somewhat lean into turns feeling confident, compared to the knobbies. Bought 2 sets.

Thanks brotha. my kids love it more then I do. Lol. i installed a front seat and also drag a kids trailer in the back and w/the power on these mid drives, no problem! no way could I go like we usually do (15+mi) on pedal alone.
