Its hard to find a full suspension frame where a shark battery can fit on the dowtube and it has no alignment issues with the bbshd, and the shark battery is your best shot (its the smallest)

Giant Stance 2 the shark battery fits fine and the bbshd fits fine. .. we offer it as a complete bike on the luna site here. You can save just a bit of money if you build it yourself. Understand when we sale a bike we assume a lot of liability....so normally we wouldnt charge this premium of a price but this is very risky product for us to sale. For example a return is going to be expensive on this bike.


All that being said this is way better than any production bike at this point i know of at this point. You are basically getting a very high performance bike that would cost you thousands more if you buy from a complete bike dealer.

This bike is a very tight package....that feels high quality and is a blast to ride.

We used a 100mm bbshd from luna with the spacer kit.

This is a modern bottom bracket FSA and requires an adaptor to fit. We used this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for 25 dollars and cut it in half.

We then pressed each half into the frame.... simple fix.

This bike needs maximum offset for the best chainline so we used the Luna Eclipse Chainring...

Build Notes:

• We will be doing build video on this bike soon.
• The shark mount needs to be modified by drilling holes to fit.
• WE know that shark battery fits in this bike for both medium and large sizes...have not tried small yet.
• The more offset the better when choosing chainring
• This bike requires an FSA adaptor to get the BBSHD to fit
• The bbs02 will not fit on this bike without buying a fat bike kit (not recommended)

Build Price:

• $1380 for starter bike (1200 plus sales tax we had to pay here in CA from local dealer)
• $715 BBSHD 100MM Kit from luna with color screen and shark battery
• $500 52v Shark Battery
• $20 FSA Adaptor so the bbshd can fit (must be cut in half to work)
• $100 Luna Eclipse Chainring

Total parts cost: $2715

Just ordered your complete e-bike...the Giant Stance with all upgrades. I live in the Colorado foothills with endless trails and some serious hills, so I can't wait to try it out! I'll post a full review once I put it to the test.

I should do a build thread on the giant .... which would outline everything you need list of materials etc..... and move this thread over there with all the parts needed etc.

I am going to convert this thread to just that...also i will have my buys do a build video.

We used a 100mm bbshd

We noticed a bbs02 would not work on this drive without the fat bike extension axle kit which is a very weak solution. Anwyay a bbs02 does not make sense when you start spending this kind of money on a base bike.

we just cut it in half and took a few mm of material off of each of the cut ends and and then press fit it in.

On later bikes we are making our own adaptor custom made on a lathe for the bike because it is cheaper for us.





THe next problem is the spacing on this drive is a bit tricky... to get the 100mm bbshd to fit correctly we needed to use two extra mounting pieces you can buy here for $6

We cut those two triangle pieces ears off to act as spacers to mount with the triangle and fix the spacing issues the drive has with this bike.

I picked mine up a mere two weeks ago (it was EXACTLY what I was looking for), and all I can say so far is HOLY CRAP. I love this e-bike! It replaced a ~2.5 year old Polaris Rail that went to my dad, and this is just what I was looking to build myself (but I'm not a bike geek, I LOVE that Luna did it for me!).

I don't have a full right arm, so I wanted full suspension to deal with crap on the road at speed (the roads around where I live are in surprisingly bad repair).

I'm hitting 20-24 MPH with a great cadence at pedal assist level 2 (of 9) on slight inclines with the 'street legal' config (I mostly ride on the road) and could definitely go faster if I cared to (waiting for a steering damper from Hopey before I try that due to my arm) and getting about a 40 mile range with mostly using PA level 2 and occasional throttle goosing to get going from a stop.

I have the GIANT STANCE 27.5 in wheels. I want to get the HD 1000w. I have a question about the bottom bracket. Should i get the PF30 or the BB30 for this bike? I read that you cut the BB30 in half and pressed them in but will in retrospect is that the best way to do that?

Also, is there a video that i can see that might help me in the build? Thanks for your help.

I´m a little bit confused... Can you fit the shark battery in a medium frame? It says in the Build Notes that it fits "both medium and large sizes".

Check out my build site to see what I went through to get everything to fit-up. It was fun, but a lot more involved than Eric suggests. I would love to see this build site updated to see what Luna really does with this build. Bottom line, however, is that this bike is a BLAST to ride, and the Luna Complete E-Bike is a great deal.

I lost the ability to edit my Build Thread a few weeks ago, and I have some concluding remarks to make on the best way to go with the bottom bracket adapter. Since samholton is ready to get after it, I'll just do it right here. By the way, this is an incredible bike. My son just took it for a spin along Alki in West Seattle (wet roads, twilight). First time on an E-Bike. He's back in 15 minutes absolutely ECSTATIC. (He went straight to PAS 9 and 9th gear: ~30 mph, pedaling like a maniacal cyborg.) He no longer wants a Tesla. Go for it Sam.

First the easy answer. No spacers of any kind are to be used on the Drive side (it will screw-up the chain-line), so you need two additional, modified Y-Brackets, to make two biting spacers for the non-drive side.

I know of 3 ways to go about this, avoiding the lathe modification I did for my build.

BB30 to BSA Adapter (photo in Eric's comments, above):
The adapter is slightly dogbone shaped. The 41+mm CENTER of the adapter is what is valuable. The two BB30, 42 mm ends should be cut off and discarded. Cut the center section in half and you now have the bushings you need. Use Loctite and press them in flush with the bottom bracket shell. These parts are just bushings, so the cuts don't have to be perfectly square. Make sure the BBSHD and biting spacers make full contact with the Stance bottom bracket shell (not aluminum bushing sticking out.) The one problem with this plan is that the critical tolerance for this part is the two 42mm BB30 ends, not the turned-down center that we use. My adapter's center section was a decent press fit, and would be fine with Loctite. If you end up with an adapter with less than a 41mm center section, you can't complain to the adapter supplier.

China BB92 to BSA Adapter:
I've got one set, and I don't have any use for them. They look nice. PM me if you want them. My caliper battery is dead, so I can't see how much over 41 mm they are. If I used these on a build, I would grind off the "end flanges", so the adapter could be pressed completely into the Stance shell. The flange on the Drive side is detrimental to your chain-line. The flange on either side has the BBSHD biting into the adapter, not the Stance bottom bracket shell like it should. That puts a twisting moment on the adapter. It might slip in its bore. A 20 minute session at a bench grinder and we don't have to test this.

Talk Luna into Selling you Their Custom Adapter:
This is my favorite solution!!! With this and the simple mod on the Y-Brackets to make biting spacers, you have a very simple build.

Just noticed this reply. I ordered 2 sets (just in case my wife goes the Embolden route) of the China bracket. I have read your build thread a few times and one of the reasons I'm leaning towards the Stance. Seems like I should have a much easier build on my hands. The 5-6 week shipping time may come into play once I pull the trigger and order the bike and BBSHD/battery. If it does, I may reach out to you about your bracket and then pay it forward with the two I have on order.

Unless Eric/Luna can hook me up with their custom bracket, will be buying two BBSHD and batteries after all ;)

Oh, any suggestion regarding 2016 Stance 2 vs 2017 Stance 2? I noticed they switched the cassette from an 11x34 (in 2016) to 12x36 (in 2017). My LBS is offering discounts on 2016 so I can get them for pretty much the same price. I'm not planning on any large hills and realistically don't need top end speed (but sure I'll want it). My back of the envelope calcs show only a few MPH between 11 and 12 with the 42T up front.

I've made a few little changes to my 2016 Stance and have some more plans. A wider range of gears isn't on the list. I haven't come anywhere close to amping out the BBSHD (30 Amps) in my 34t cog. I suspect I'd just burn rubber in a tractor-pull contest. (I only weigh 145lbs.) Speed is good... And more speed is better. Hmmmmm. All things being equal, especially the price, I would probably want the 2017, with that 11t cog.

Wider range isn't on my list and I don't think I'd need 34 let alone 36. Will have to compare the 2 and see if it's worth getting 2017 and thinking about changing cassette later to get that 11t. Only other thing I remember being different are the brakes ana maybe the derailleur

One more question, when you say the 100mm BBSHD are you referring to the 73-100mm (Fat) or the 100-120mm (Extra Fat)? I'm guessing the extra fat with the two additional biting spacers?
