Risun Motors Mustang BBSHD full suspension boost ebike build starting from a frame

Welcome to my post! I"m pretty new at building eBikes or bikes in general so I pretty much pick out the stuff that I think looks really cool and has good reviews. Deviating from the trend I have of using safe and tested hardware with excellent reviews, I found this "Customized Mustang Our Exclusive Fat eBike Frame Fast Dispatching Electric Bicycle Frame With Suspension" on Amazon for $499. The company Risun Motors also sells full bikes with a BBSHD already installed however, I thought it would be fun to build this bike out with nice parts from scratch. With the help of my local bike repair shop I hope to have a really kick ass eBike with dual suspension and 3 inch wide tires.

    Frame: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MUCUJX6

When I found this frame I searched for all the info I could find on it. I really found nothing interesting other than pictures of finished bikes with a BBSHD installed and fat tires. I decided to post this topic for 2 reasons. To document what i'm building for the next time I try to build an eBike, and keep track of what worked and didn't work. Hopefully this could help someone who is interested in this type of frame. This is the only frame I've seen that is full suspension with a place to install a seat tube battery other than folding bikes. Risun Motors also has a seat tube battery that is 48v 26.1ah. I really wish I could find somewhere like Luna that is here in the States that sells a seat tube battery. Possible with better cells to build the battery? Pretty sure with 117 pieces it could go higher than 48v 26.1ah using better ones.

    13-Series and 9-Parallels is huge!

Here is a picture of the frame

Here is the finished bike I mentioned earlier with the BBSHD installed my build will probably be about the same price with better components:

Spank Oozy 395+ Boost Front wheel
Stan's No Tubes Hugo 52 rear wheel with Hope Fatsno 190mm rear hub
    3 inch 27.5 tires: Maxxis Highroller II 27.5+ 3.0 Tire 120Tpi / 3C Exo TR
    So pretty!

Slight problem here the rear hub is not big enough for the 190mm dropouts and spacers would mess up the chain line.I'll have my local bike store rebuild the wheel with a Hope fatsno 190mm rear hub. Decided against the tire rebuild. Getting a Stan's No Tubes Hugo 52 rim to use with the 190mm Hub. The hub is so wide I think the back rim should be wider.

ROCKSHOX YARI RC FORK 29" / 27.5"+ 160MM: (if you go with this fork and want 3 inch width tires make sure to get the 29/27.5+ version and not the 27.5+ version)

I'll let my local bike shop figure out what crown and zero stack to get.

    Brakes, derailleurs, and stuff
Shimano Xt M780 10 Speed Shifter Black
Shimano Xt Rd-M786 10Spd Rear Derailleur Black, Medium Cage
Shimano HG50 10 Speed Mountain Bike Cassette
    Shimano XT SM-RT86 Rotor - 6-Bolt
Shimano Deore M615 Hydraulic Brake Set with Bafang Ebrake cut off (these are awesome!) https://lunacycle.com/shimano-deore-...brake-cut-off/

This stuff is all a matter of what floats your boat:
    SPANK SPOON Pedals
    SPANK SUBROSA Grips
    SPANK SPIKE 800 Vibrocore Bar
Spank Oozy Trail Stem Black, 75Mm
    Thomson Masterpiece Bicycle Seat Post

After I (with the help of my local bike shop) get all the parts I have so far assembled, and get another pay check to blow on a BBSHD kit from Luna. I will post pictures of the bike fully assembled and add a list of all the neat stuff I get from Luna.

Thank you! I'm really excited to see how it turns out as well. It all looks good on paper until you ride the bike. :)

I think Risun Motors is related to Hallomotor / Conhismotor. Both stores sell what look like Risunmotor branded Bafangs (or clones?) on eBay. I've had good experiences with those two companies in the past.

Cool frame though. I really like the idea of that bike. I hope it does well in practice!

That's good to hear. I was thinking about getting the battery from them but was on the fence. http://risunmotor.com/2015-latest-48...r-and-bms.html For the BBSHD I'm going with Luna I don't want to mess with what might be clones for the motor, and I want to be able to get support from Luna if I need it, as well as the chain ring options.

I only bought a motor kit and controller. The shipping was insanely fast given that it came from China. No experience with their batteries although one user on ES did buy a fully built 3kW bike (stealth bomber/quilbix clone I think?) with a huge battery and was pleased with it.

Definitely go Luna for the motor. The Risunmotor mid drives look like BBS02's and are offered from 350w to 1000w. Prices were cheaper than BBS02's though. I could never be totally sure about what they actually were. I am still a bit curious but doubt I'll ever try one out.

Now I'm wondering if I should have the back tire that came in my wheelset rebuilt or get a another rim and sell the already built back tire as is. Its a Spank Boost rear hub that's installed in it. Seems kinda wasteful to have it torn apart.

Might be better to go with a wider rim for that really wide hub anyways these look good. https://www.notubes.com/hugo-52-rim Anyone have issues with a wider rim on the back tire than the front?

Wider rear rim than front is no concern of mine. Plenty of motos roll that way for decades.

My current fatty eBike uses a much wider rim in back than front but with the same exact tire. Really changes the look/profile of the same tire.

Thank you. I think I will order a the Hugo 52 rim then and sell the Spank rear wheel. I always seem to end up with extra parts on my projects!

Haha yeah, there are no extra parts only bikes in various stages of completion, IMO...

As a note I've mentioned my Gravity Ebike. I like it but was disappointed that I had to mount the battery on the down tube. Living in Washington State I can image what would happen if I get caught riding this in the rain. All the water would be splashing from the front tire onto the battery. There aren't many options for a full suspension ebike that has room for a really big battery. The cabling was a nightmare on this frame as well. Its also a 19 inch frame. I'm 5'9 and the bike barely fits me. The new frame is an 18 inch so should be a better fit for me.

Looking at these dimensions they seems impossible.19mm for the shock 19cm maybe which would be 190mm. I'm no metric expert but that's not right! By the way I did not mention that the shock came with the frame. It's a DNM Burner Series 550lb shock as per when I searched for it on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/DNM-Mountain-...dp/B00LM3FPMC/ And bingo it is 190mm not 19mm.

Also with my own measuring the Length is 125cm(not 115cm) and it is an 18 inch frame (not 17.7165).

BBSHD ordered from Luna: (I already have a DPC-14 display I purchased as an extra for my other ebike) Luna Rocks I can't believe I ordered today and it was shipped today! It should be in by Tuesday.

I'm still waiting on my Hugo 52 rim. I also ordered the wrong valve for the Hugo rim it requires "Stan's NoTubes Hugo Schrader Valves". I also ordered some 27mm rim tape which the rim specifically recommends. It always seems like the hardest part is getting all the right parts and none of the local bike shops carry what I want, I'm sure they can get the parts but its faster and cheaper in most cases to go on the internet for special order items.

This menagerie of parts is so close to being ready to take to the local community bike shop and start assembling. We have a really cool community bike shop here in Bellingham.

                http://www.thebikehub.org/
"We offer a community bike repair space for the DIY-minded and a selection of affordable new and used parts for sale. As a non-profit, we work with local organizations and low-income families to put quality bikes into the hands of people who need them most. We also offer volunteer opportunities for those who want to help the community and learn about bicycle maintenance in the process."

I had to switch the bike shop I'm using for this build to Alley Cat Bike Shop http://alleycatbikeshop.com. The Hub is a great bike shop but didn't have a truing stand big enough for the rear tire. They also are not really setup for suspension systems or hydraulic disc-brakes. They are honest about it even on their webpage:
"Our full-service repair shop will take care of anything that you may not be able to fix yourself, with the exception of suspension systems or hydraulic disc-brakes. For those types of repairs, please check out one of these recommended shops." Alley Cat Bike shop was at the top of the list for the bike shops they recommend in Bellingham. http://www.thebikehub.org/bellingham-bike-shops/

The mechanic who has been helping me is Matt if your in Bellingham and need some help with a complicated build (well for me it is!) like this one, I highly recommend Alley Cat Bike shop and Matt. They have been very patient with my questions and drive on this project.
