I was given a 36v battery and I'm wondering if I could use it with the BBSHD. I don't need a lot of power and the only reason I'm going with the BBSHD is because I'm using a fat bike with 100mm bottom bracket. Would this be possible? Might I need another controller? Thanks for any advice (other than just buy a new battery:-).

Interesting question. I never looked in the display settings to see if 36 was an option. How many watts or amp hours is this pack? At 36 volts you are already taking a hit on range (assuming it works at all) so it would have to be a pretty massive pack to get very far. If you don't have to go very far or very fast maybe look at a hub motor? 36v is a lot more common with those and they use external controllers so easier to mix and match as you upgrade.
A ballpark number to use with a typical person with a typical 48/52v bbshd not doing anything extreme and running pedal assist is going to go about 2 miles on 1 amp hour so a 10ah pack should get you around 20 miles. You end up with the typical 11-13ah packs 20 miles should be pretty comfortable with room to spare or have some fun. If you only need to go 10 miles you may be fine with the smaller pack but if you want to do that 10 miles throttle only or at 20mph or though snow you may have a problem and need more battery.
