Okay, So my motor has arrived, I've decided not to pay someone to install everything and to do it myself. Now I'm wondering how to install the GearSensor on a three speed with a bell crank. I've seen videos of installing them on bikes with a derailleur, but not on a 3 speed with a bell crank installed. Oh ya and yes I decided to buy a 3 speed IGH to replace the 7 speed, because I didn't want to be worried about being stranded on my commute to work.

Installing a Gear Sensor on 3 Speed With a Bell Housing?

Perhaps nothing I was just going by the pictures I've seen. I will know more when I begin the install. However, now I have a bigger issue Luna forgot to include the freaking charger I purchased. I was going to begin the damn install tonight and ride the bike tomorrow, but now I cannot charge the battery! I'm a little ticked off to say the least.

I Okay the Shimano Nexus shifter came like it is shown in the picture below. The cable is already installed in the bell crank and in the shifter. I opened the back of the bell crank and it appears the cable can be easily removed. However I do not see how I can easily remove the cable from the shifter end so that it can slide out of the cable housing making it possible to make the necessary cuts to install the gear sensor. If someone could explain how I can do it I will appreciate the assistance.

I found this: http://www.bike-manual.com/brands/fi...le_install.htm
Otherwise you need to go to Shimano and download a tech manual on the nexus 3 speed.
Looks like you cut cable from rear end like any other shift cable; but you need to remove housing to get at it.
No matter what you need a new cable because there won't be extra in that bell and they say to put a cable end to stop fraying so I assume there's one on the present cable.

Don't do it! You don't need it. I just installed a SA 3spd with a free hub. Riding with a 3spd is just wonderful. Just pause your pedaling and shift up or down and you are there with no strain or noise. How did that commercial go? "Priceless".
Really don't cut anything up. Don't install it just because you bought it. Put the bike together and try it without the shift sensor. You can always install it later if you need to.Last edited by calfee20; 08-25-2016, 04:31 AM.

Look, that's a good IGH but I would do one of two things. since you're not riding under pressure that is shifting under stress, consider the GS if you have the GS controller. Why not add the protection.
Everyone will hat the next idea and so did I, BUT the "green button", green means stop, cuts the motor and actually works great. I'm amazed. It's perfect for the dork meister bikes. And my guest riders make more sense of it than tapping the brakes.
Don't listen to Austin, he's a speed freak! VVBG
The cable does come out of the housing and can be replaced, look for a schematic or manual. I found mine easily. Google it!
Let the trashing begin!

Both my son and I bought 2 HD kits and had the shifter sensor included. He has a 30 speed and I have a Shimano Nexus 8 speed hub. He would need to by a extension cable to mount his and I have a wire wrapped cable on mine. Neither of us really need the sensor as it's not hard to stop pedaling for second or so as you shift gears. It would be more efficient to not have to stop pedaling, but for me, I would have to make a custom cable as both ends have cast metal on the wire so neither end would go through the sensor without clipping the end off one side. I suppose I could maybe crimp a butt connector or some such thing back on that end after feeding it through the sensor, but I really don't think I want to mess with it that much.
