BBSHD 100mm on 68mm BB, spacers question

    Hello all,
First time eBuilder here starting to assemble a Motobecane 29er fatbike with a Bafang bbshd. Waited until the bike arrived before ordering the motor kit to get a look at the chainstay shape in person. I decided that I was likely going to have an issue if I got the standard 68-73 unit so I went with the 100mm. I am currently dry fitting everything that has arrived so far and have determined that I need a minimum of 7mm spacers on the drive side to have chainring clearance. That leaves me a 22mm gap to fill on the non-drive side. The stock installation uses ridges on the motor mounting plate to bite into the BB shell, I will have spacers in that position so I need another way to prevent the drive rotating down.

Has anyone else dealt with a similar installation personally? I would appreciate any input or suggestions. There is a short (1min) video showing exactly what I'm talking about if my description did not explain it clearly.

    Thanks in advance !
    Joe B

I used a steel pipe I think the internal diameter was 36mm. Then I cut the size I needed and then just cranked it down as hard as I could on both lock rings. I've taken it on and off for various reasons and it's always good. Use a proper bottom bracket tool. And a pipe wrench works great for the inner lock ring.

Awesome ! I was hoping I could just sock it down good and have it stay put.

I put a 120mm kit on a 100mm BB shell bike. I used five of the 4mm aluminum spacer-rings from Luna, and it seems to work just fine so far.

Thanks, that's the plan so far I ordered a stack of 4mm to supplement the assortment that came with the 100mm kit. Appreciate your time to answer !

I saw you video on youtube. What solution did you end up. I just realized I'm in the same boat. In the process of swapping out bbs02 to bbshd but I have the 100mm version

so 100mm on 68mm BB. Lots of spacers

used some hose clamps we'll see how it goes
