Will Luna Eclipse mate to 130 BCD 5 bolt Gates CDX sprocket?

Shall have the bike set up next weekend. I'm for sure going to "ride it hard". I think that the 7 longer stainless m4 through bolts with nylocks and threadlocker at the outsidediameter of the Luna Eclypse will not be a fail point. I did notice that as mere screws on the chainRING that they had started to loosen up.. Threadlocker advised.

Wow!
Have you tried it out and rode hard? Are the two holding together well despite few bolt connections and little area to make connections?
This is awesome if it works?

What? Do you have an intermediary ring available for belt drive?

55t cdx/eclypse married! 68mm bb yields 51.5 mm chainline. Works for me.5 Photos

Thanks Christian! I am having a new set of wheels built and they will have wider rims and no logos.

I have the 60t gates ring, but have yet to find either a 55 or 60 that has a cut-out pattern that provides more area to attach the eclipse. So far, it appears to need more than the 7 bolts through the eclipse, more likely an intermediary piece with many bolt holes for the gates and 5 holes for the eclipse

Nice,
I like the stealthiness and understatedness, maybe even moreso if those model names were peeled off the front rim. I mean, I even take a little Dremel wire wheel to get the trade names and logos off bike tires. I also like the industrial-like colors, such as black, gray, charcoal, silver, graphite, maybe a touch of white or red, possibly even a yellow accent somewhere, etc.
But that's just me...
And I look forward to seeing some customer-developed belt drive eBikes.

Hi It appears that a 55 tooth gates cdx "beltring" has good tolerance for the eclypse. This I've yet to fully verify. It would need to be drilled out for the 7 bolts and have the 5 bolt 130mm webbing removed. 55T cdx is roughly the same diameter as 42t chain....not as big as it sounds.

Eric Luna - I don't think I can make a successful adapter for the Luna Eclipse. On my set up, the intermediary ring that would join the gates and the Eclipse together would need to be about 3mm. The Gates OEM sprocket has too many cut-outs (for look and weight) that there is no way to get the Eclipse bolt pattern to transfer to the gates sprocket. Which means, there would be no thru-bolt connection through all three pieces - one has to bolt the Eclipse to the custom intermediary ring that I make and then bolt the gates to the ring using a different pattern. Why this is an issue is that I feel 3mm of thread is insufficient to secure the two pieces on either side of my custom ring.
The solution is to use an adapter like the Luna 130 bcd or the California e-bike adapter and then make a beefier ring in the middle to join the gates and adapter together. This is what c-cap did on his build. This is the pathway I am going down next. I really wish I could use the eclipse, but I don't see a way to make it work.

Some reference material for anyone else who is also looking at a Nuvinci<>Gates drive on a BBSHD
Nuvinci with gates rear sprocket: "Beltline" 44.5mm
BBSHD standard chainring centerline: 50 mm
Gates inner arm dia (front sprocket): 114.5
BBSHD clutch housing (what you have to get around if moving beltline inward): 123 mm
Thus: cut gates inner bolt arms off and secure around ring area to an adapter (custom)4 PhotosLast edited by Alpinist; 06-18-2016, 09:17 PM.
