Sometimes the gooy stuff in a tube is just as important as a good set of Gear Wrenches. I have noticed that those slick little connectors on these Bafang motors are not so slick to unplug. In fact mine are a real struggle. And I can see the wires on these connectors being damaged in that struggle. Then you have immediate malfunction, or even worse, a strained connection that you cant see that creates random problems on different weather days. Not a good situation.
So I went and put a tiny dab of dielectric grease on the colored plastic end of the connector that slips into the black side of the other end of the connector. Now the connector slips together abit easier. And the grease will further seal out water from seeping in and actually glueing the connector together over time. Its still a hard connector to unplug, but its not such a big wrestling match any more. And next year it should be just as easy to unplug, when the need arises. And that means less chance to pull and damage the wire connection inside.
Greasing just the colored plastic side prevents getting the grease on the pins themselves. You would think that lubing up the pins would further fight corrosion, but that is still a debate that is ongoing. My observation is that I used to own cars with connections that were well greased. And now I own cars with ungreased connections. So its either years of data show grease makes things worse, electrically, or years of data showed a big drop in service profits. Hah. Such is the paranoia of corporate secrecy.
So a tiny dab of this silicone based grease can do you wonders, while avoiding the arguments of the ongoing debate. :)
