Best of all worlds. No renewal fees, no insurance required, no pedals required, ride almost anywhere (except bike paths. Bike lanes ok.) And best of all...if I take it off, I'm a class 2 eBike. Gonna make a quick release mount of some kind. Plate on....ride to trails...take plate off...ride trails...plate back on...ride home.
    This is clutch info. Thanks.

Got my CA moped license plate yesterday, precisely one month after I mailed my application to the DMV Special Processing Unit.

The only things needed are REG 230, "Motorized Bicycle Application", and a check for $24; you do not need to send Statement of Facts, or any other documentation or photographs. As mentioned before, you need to get the metal placard from Sur Ron and copy that information to the relevant sections in the application.

For those of you that have received the license plate, how and where did you install it on the Sur Ron? The plate is wider than the rear of the bike so it will rip off at the first crash, and I can't find a good place to install it vertically.

Engine Number: the "E" should be at the beginning of the VIN
        CA License Plate: Blank
Section 1 checkboxes: check the first of the three boxes
Section 2 checkboxes: "Yes" to all four
        Section 3 & 4 left blank
Cheque for $24 and send everything to the DMV.

        Everything else is correct.

This actually worked! Thank you JohnKol so the way it works for California:

Vehicle ID: Your Personal Surron Vin

Engine Number: E(Vin of your Surron)

        Make: Chongqing Qiulong Technology Co.,LTD

        CA License Plate: (Leave Empty)

        Model: YQ2A

        Distinctive Features: Blank

Section 1,2, & 5 need to be filled out.

        Section: 3 & 4 leave empty

Send a written check of $24 to the DMV. I got my plates yesterday

I made a mount that bolts onto the side of the swingarm where the chain guard bolts on, and used a spring hinge so that it can fold out of the way while poachin'. I'll post some pics tomorrow!

Here are the aforementioned photos. Bonus points if you paint the backside of the plate black!

Hi, can you elaborate on this "metal placard"? SC-Surfer mentioned it too but he said his came from Luna? How do get one and will the information match the frame and engine number I received? Thanks!

Hi, I just received my Sur Ron X and assembled yesterday. Can you elaborate on "small metal placard Luna sells" ? Could you post whatever it says on that (I assume I can just substitute my frame and engine numbers). It does seem safer to try to get it registered as a Luna than a Sur Ron.. thanks!

Am I the only one who got about 150 surron e-bike label plates with their new bike (Oct 2021)? Same as Luna sells. Edit: meant to post pix

Thanks, I don't think that protruding bracket will work for me given that I crash every single time I ride, but the pointer of mounting the plate on the swingarm is a good one!

Trailpoacher provided the correct link for the metal placard. On Form 230 enter the frame number as it appears on your Sur Ron frame, but do not enter the engine number stamped on the Sur Ron motor; instead, enter the frame number preceded by the letter "E".

oof, I used the number on the engine when I sent in the application on Friday. Maybe I'll get lucky?

It's highly unlikely that they check, so you should be fine; monitor your bank account to see if they cash your cheque, they cashed mine two weeks after I sent my application.

"Moped" is another word for "Electric Bicycle"; lights, turn signals, and mirrors are not required for bicycles or electric bicycles.

There is a lot of bad advice out there, so I found this, it may be relevant to the above statement about required equipment.
