FAST ACE FRONT FORKS FOR SUR RON - am I all alone??

Does anyone have experience upgrading forks from the Fast Ace "inverted MX style" to one of the good DH mtb forks Fox 40s or DVO? The Fast Ace triple clamps are definitely a larger diameter due to the nature of them being inverted. Not really sure what I will need to get the MTB style forks installed.

Or, has anyone had experience modifying the Fast Ace fork for better MX performance or using a YZ / CR 80 fork to replace?

Not much out there on the Sur Ron with Fast Ace. I'm beginning to think I'm the only one in the US with a Summer 2021 Sur Ron and Fast Ace fork combo....

Mountain bike forks come with crowns and a steerer tube, so you uninstall the whole Fast Ace fork and crowns, remove the crown race from the bottom of the steerer tube of the Fast Ace, install it onto the new MTB fork, then install the MTB fork on the Sur Ron.

I would recommend going the route of MTB dual crown forks, as they work great and are a simple swap. If you do a YZ/CR 80 fork swap, you'll have to figure out how to adapt it to mount to the Sur Ron frame/headset.

The popular mtb fork options are:
Fox 40
Marzocchi 58 (the budget version of the Fox)
Manitou Dorado (I have one of the new Dorado Comp forks on my SR). The 29" wheel, drop crown new version fits with no mods. The 27.5" flat upper crown new version would likely need to swap the upper headset to a standard mtb version instead of the tapered roller type.

If you have the newer X model with the tall roller bearing headset, you will either need to replace the headset for something like the Cane Creek 40 series (ZS44 top, ZS56/30 bottom) OR purchase an upper drop/tall crown for many of the forks.

2021+ Fox 40 27.5", requires new upper drop/tall crown to use the roller bearing headset OR replace to lower stack height mountain bike headset
2021+ Fox 40 29", comes stock with upper drop/tall crown. No changes needed.

2021 Manitou Dorado Comp/Expert 27.5", Not compatible with stock roller bearing headset, requires lower stack height mountain bike headset. Upper drop crown is not available with the 27.5" offset.
2021 Manitou Dorado Comp/Expert 29", comes stock with upper drop/tall crown. No changes needed.

DVO Onyx DC 27.5", requires new upper drop/tall crown to use the roller bearing headset OR replace to lower stack height mountain bike headset

Mine has this fork... is it any good? I'm new to the scene I've just used basic e bikes for some time never anything with full suspension... tried googling them but always end up with other models.

From what I've ridden, the FastAce and the DNM are better than the RST Killyou. The current FastAce forks are probably the most reliable yet they aren't equipped with a stiff enough spring. After 2 tear downs on this fork, I'm almost certain the spring, rod, valving and other internals can be be replaced with decent pitbike parts or maybe even fork components from a 65 two stroke or similar. If you're not trying to use your FastAce forks for aggressive riding then you're good.

I haven't replaced the spring yet. Definitely want to. I've been speaking with someone who followed my instruction on fork tear down and he said he ordered a Manitou XX firm coil that he thinks is around 31-31.5 mm wide. It is 20mm shorter than the stock spring so he got some Rock Shock Spacers. He hasn't received the spring yet so I don't know if it works or not. In theory I think it should be fine and much better than what we have in there.

kstein7766- would you be willing to share the tear down instructions? I have a new Sur-Ron with the FastAce and have some stiction. I'm wondering if it just needs grease, but I don't know how to go about doing that.

I found this video on YouTube by Vegas RoManiac who fixed the stiction on his Segway with DNM forks, but he's already sold his Sur-Ron with the FastAce, so no hope of a similar video from him on this fork. :( https://youtu.be/AUnHjH1ehA0
