    Bike is dead

So I went for a ride on my Surron today, it has the KO Pro controller and motor. They have their app in beta testing so I figured I'd give it a go. I got about 4 miles into my ride and my OEM display just goes blank and light cuts off. No power at all. No smoke or sparks either though. So I coast down the mountain. Reset the breaker, reset the key, I even pulled the battery out to look for anything obvious. Didn't see anything. But it did start back up for an 1/8 of a mile before dying again. And now its dead dead. I got home and started pulling it apart. Circuit breaker ohms out good. So does the key switch. All of my sensors have been disabled. Battery is 83% charged and putting out about 80V. I even tried another DC adapter.

It had been running smoothly until today. Really not sure where to look next. Anyone have any insight?

Sounds like a battery connection burned up somewhere. It quit then started for just a bit more while the last of the connection bunt up. Since you checked the external stuff, then what is left is whats inside the controller. if its easy to open up and it's not potted in with all that black glue, then it may be easy to fix with cleaning and soldering. If you don't have warranty coverage. You can stab the power wires going into the controller with sharpened meter probes as a last check to make sure the battery is getting to the controller. I assume you are using the display that is rated for the extra high voltages you are using. A functioning display does turn the controller on.

I can't find any evidence of a battery burn. Can't smell any either. I have warranty coverage so I'll let them do that. I was able to test 80V going to the controller. The display is just the OEM one that KO says will work with their gear. Another display is the only thing I haven't tried yet.

        Another display didn't change anything.

Maybe you burnt out the Dc converter,it changes battery voltage to 12dc for display, etc but I think it’s only rated for a 60v battery

I have been running the Chi battery since September with no issues. I can't see them making upgraded batteries for these bikes if they are going to burn out components. I also tried another DC converter and got no change though.

Found the issue. There was a broken power wire inside a harness and under some tape that was tucked behind part of my frame that I didn't realize was there. Reattched that and the bike returned to life.

Well that has got to make you feel good. Its not my bike, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling that you finally found the battery wiring issue that I had already posted on. Welcome back to the world of eBiking. :)

Happy to hear that problem is solved. My bike also died today and i have no idea why did that happen. It seems to be more complicated and i even start to think of getting a new bike. The one i have was in the family for a while and maybe it is just the time to change. Curios what do you guys think about the tubeless bike tires https://www.bikertricks.com/tubeless-bike-tires/. Are they better that the normal once? What are the pros/cons?

You must not be a fan of SurRons, hah. Did you check all the stuff in this thread already? Were you riding it when it quit or did you try to use it and it just wouldn't turn on? And how often do you use it?
          Working...
