Thanks for that explanation - that all makes sense and I can see why Luna just puts a 750w label on the motor by default.

If you put a cheap watt-meter on it, you will see exactly how many watts you are drawing. The stock controller is adjustable, and it is possible to adjust it to run a legitimate 750W in those cities where you are only allowed to run 750W on the street.

Watts are volts times amps, and the controller is capable of running a 48V battery or a 52V battery, so Luna has no way of knowing ahead of time which voltage you will be using. Also, Luna has no control over whether you will be using the BBSHD on the street or off-road. Power level laws vary from state to state, and Luna also has no control over selling a BBSHD to a builder in a state where there are no power limits, and then the builder moves to a place that does have a 750W power limit.

The builders who run off-road, or ride on the street (but live in an area where the power limit is really higher), don't seem to care what the case says. The engraving is for builders who need that. If you live where there is a 750W power limit, it is the owners responsibility to buy the programming cable and limit the controller amps (taking into consideration which voltage you will be using), just as speed limits vary from place to place, and it is the drivers responsibility to obey the speed laws on the road that they are on.

If you will be using 1500W on your BBSHD (like I do), and riding your ebike on public streets, it is your responsibility to engrave on the case that this motor system is using 1500W.

    started a topic 1000w is 750w?

    1000w is 750w?

Ordered the 1000w kit but the motor has a 750w label on it. A quick email to Lunacycle and their response is the 750 is for certification issues but it 'really' a 1000w motor. Anyone else seeing this? I would think a 1kw motor would be labelled 1kw...
