BBSHD error code 12 PLEASE HELP !!

I just drove down to Cabo from San Diego and Ive never had any trouble with my BBSHD. Each time we stop at a town Ive taken my bike for a 3-7 mile slow ride. Today upon my arrival in Cabo the motor works a little then stops then works again. There's an "error code 12 Controller" on the color display. Just before this problem began I washed the bike which I normally do when it's dirty . Maybe some water got inside the controller?

I really need help. I have one leg and wear a prosthetic leg and really rely on my beloved fatwheel bike to get around as walking kills me and is extremly painful.

I charged the bike with an inverter inside my van which I've done dozens of times if that makes any difference?

One advantage I have is that I brought my mountain bike down also with the same motor.

If my controller is no good I would be able to swap it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Error code 12 - Bafang BBS2 500W with C961 display

    Error code 12 - Bafang BBS2 500W with C961 display

Upon startup this week 80% of time over 20 rides, I get error code 12 and bafang non-functioning. Shutting off and restarting consistently clears code and then runs smooth for miles.

From C961 Manual error code 12 is "current sensor abnormality", which I believe is correct for code (old BBS manual I have says code 12 is "Temperature inside of battery is
un-normal") (Random red herring or possible important detail, at 600 miles it started randomly adding resistance when not assisting (if you leave on come to stop and move bike backward/moving peddles it feals like brakes slightly on, no code shown, shutting off and restarting behaved normally immediatly, then this stopped for 50 miles and happened twice this week.)

    Two questions:

What should/can I test and how. (ie voltage or current and when)

Also other than the hassle, should I be concerned about fixing instead of using to avoid damage?

    Any input? THANKS

Update, a week after I posted this I noticed that one of the leads from the brakes was disconnected. Didn't notice as don't really need the cutoff as stop pedaling before braking usually . Connected and never got error again.

Thanks but I don't use brake cutoffs. The plug ends are just zip tied out of the way.

OK, the only thing I can say is that if it happened right after you washed the bike then perhaps water did get into the components. I'd check to make sure the components are dry and connections are clean. Sorry I didn't see more about that error code online.

Should I remove the controller cover and inspect inside ?

Error codes are numbered and listed different in the newest displays manual. It appears the actual code is "current sensor error" No. 11 Click image for larger version

I'm thinking you'll be needing a controller. I've messaged my guru. But it's a bad time of day to get an answer from Viet Nam.

That would make it even more likely that water got in there.

I just opened up the controller cover and inspected it, no water. I unplugged the green yellow and blue wires plus white, grey, black and red combo plug. Inspectoed that they were all making contact and replugged them in. I did not mess with the one that is siliconed to the body with white silicone. What are the chances that water got inside the actual controller where the positive and negative and speed sensor lines go into the controller. It seems like it's pretty tightly sealed.

Now that I have the controller separated from the motor body and I have plugged all the wires back in, when I turn the power on the throttle seems to be working but there is still an error code number 12 on the display.

Louis what is the fix for a "current sensor"? New controller?

I wonder what the chances of getting a new controllership down to Cabo San Lucas,Mexico?

HAH, since there seems to be a controller shortage....Luna may have some to support it's customers. Please see my signature. I have no links to Luna.

I don't see how water would get in as Optimus indicated regarding the brakes sensors. I do think it's a mistake to not use brake sensors, but that's the owners business...I don't think moisture in the connections would short the system, but hey, with these motors, only deity knows WTF. Worth a try to make sure those connectors are dry.

I don't use breke cut off controllers. I put the cover back on and rode around. Now the problem seems to be that with the slightest little touch of my throttle it goes full speed instantly. It works but it's really sketchy because it takes about two seconds to respond after I take my hand off the throttle.

I always keep a spare throttle.
I think Optimus is thinking moisture in the brake cutoff leads.

I confirmed I was correct. it's a shunt sensor error. It might be fixable but you'll likley get intermittent errors. New controller is the sure fix for error 12.
