Getting power from the drive but at times it give pulsating power not smooth

I'm wondering if I'm not reving the motor at times enough. I noticed when I was going up a short hill that the motor was putting like a "pulsating" flow of power and I had to stop. I noticed it again when I was adding throttle and about half way on. It was ok with a little bit of throttle but no more. The power cycles on and stops then repeats. Any ideas what it means?

What motor and what battery do you have. Maybe a 20A battery on a 30A motor?

it is the 20A battery...but I bought them all together for 2 bike setups: Luna DireWolf and the BBS02.

A 20A battery and a 20Ah battery are 2 different things. My 24Ah battery is 40A continuos. But if it's form Luna it should be good for just about anything.

A Dire Wolf can supply way more power than a 02 could ever use so its not like the battery is limiting things. I don't know the 02 that well but maybe its limiting things? If you were to try and pedal when its doing that what speed would you be pedaling? The BBS's like to be spinning at or even faster than the average person can pedal. If you try to pedal and you are pedaling slow you need to be in a lower gear or moving faster.

I agree on the Direwolf. But I had a Raliegh bike Using a transx motor and had to carry 2 batteries because I might ride 60+ miles in 1 day. The Direwolf I just need 1 battery. It's not constant. I just went down to look at things in the garage. The XT90 connector I notice bare wires outside of the strain relief. The solder joint looks ok so I used tape to cover them up. I remember it pulsed like this when I was hill climbing at the revs got too low and the bike wouldn't make it. But only did that once. Next time is was when I was pedaling normally, then added throttle. A little throttle fine, half way and above it pulsed the power. Does that additional info help?

I'm not knocking the choice of a Dire Wolf, its a fine choice. Go big and stay out all day or go home early cuz your battery is dead. I was just saying an 02 really should not come close to being able to overload a dire wolf. Dire Wolf I think was designed for the Ludicrous option on the BBSHD which can pull a lot more juice than a stock 02.

If the pulsing is related to the combination of pedaling and throttle that may be a programming quirk. One of my 2 BBSHD's does do wacky pulsing if I sorta pedal while on the throttle and the other one doesn't so that has to be a programming quirk. I was going to try and fix it but I have just learned to not do that.

About how many times do these pulses happen for each peddle revolution? Thats important to know to figure where the problem is coming from.

It happened during pedaling only when I did a massive hill climb, power setting three, and as I was down shifting the rpms were going down and it would pulse during pedaling. Normally pedaling works fine. The pulsing mainly happens with throttle. I thought at first maybe the motor didn't have high enough revs. So I kept down shifting but it still pulsed.

Did you ask Luna? They've sold a bunch of these things over the years. Maybe they've seen this?

I have an email into them asking why. No response yet.

Yea, its a problem that is better shown in a video. So we see and hear the noises of the events. You say pedaling up a hill and throttle hard makes it happen. Without anything else, it sounds like the motor is not getting enough power. Like a failing battery connection somewhere or the actual controller in the bike having issues where it cant put out all the power the motor is requiring. The controller is inside the motor so if the big wires on the controller are having failing connection joints, it could also explain this erratic behavior.

Maybe 1 bad capacitor in the motor controller?
              Working...
