I'm guessing the BBSHD motor isn't supposed to look like this?!

So, I thought i had peanut-buttered the nylon gear so I opened up my BBSHD.
I have a graduate degree in mechanical engineering, and I looked very curiously at the motor (wondering how it was supposed to communicate torque through the drivetrain).
I then looked at some replacement motors...where there is a shaft that has apparently broken off on mine?!
Time for a replacement motor I presume??
    Thanks...paul

Thanks...do you know if the rotor merely slips out...or if there is a procedure?

The part of the motor you are showing is all one piece. Do not try to remove the stator or rotor from the case covering. The replacement comes exactly as you show in the pic. Just reconnect and bolt on.

I think em3ev and a few others used to(maybe still do) sell the internal components of the core. But Luna only sells the core to my knowledge. Here is what Luna would send you:
            https://lunacycle.com/bbshd-motor-core-version-b/
Other places MAY offer the internal components, but that means dealing with the retention clip and bearings that sit on the back side of the unit, as well as worrying about the hall sensors etc. The "core" method from Luna is easier (albeit $200) than tearing it entirely apart. BUT, if you can find a dealer for just the rotor I am sure it will be much less. Just a lot more work.

Found a company with JUST the rotor in stock. $69.99 The Stator is $149.99. So both together is right along what Luna is selling the core for which has both. Here is the rotor:

Either way you go, I wish u luck:)

Here is a video of Bruno, the "MORE POWER" guy removing the rotor from a bbs02. I could not find one of it being done to a bbshd. Hopefully the same procedure???

I started with a home-brewed conversion of an existing commuter bike, putting it together with speed as the only consideration. This bike is fun and can hit 40MPH if you set both the motor and your legs to maximum liteblue

Just read rotor design was changed after April 2019. New rotor needs additional bearings and washer to retrofit previous versions. Looking for details. Anyone?
