3000w cyclone What am I in for

Green Werks Yes the idea for the new controller is to test it with the Cyclone 3kW. I have to straighten out my battery issues. My current batteries are 6X Multistar High Capacity 6S 16000mAh Multi-Rotor Lipo Pack left over from my electric motorcycle project.

Most of this week I spent on hold waiting for bits and bobs to arrive.

I started work on a new project I am calling the Electric Bike Bullshit Detector. Currently it is just a hydraulic pump attached to an adjustable value and oil reservoir. http://www.staton-inc.com/store/inde...product&id=985 is a adaptor that will go from the 3/4 inch shaft to a stand bicycle freewheel.

The goal of the first step is to be able to connect a mid-drive motor to the pump using a standard bicycle chain. This should provide an adjustable load we can use to give us some indication of much the motor mounts and other drivetrain components flex under load.

If the system works I'll try to turn down a 7.5 inch quad v-drive pulley to use as a drive cylinder for a chassis dyno type system.

Ideally, this can become the brake for a simple chassis dyno that can handle Luna ebike levels of power.

But , first things first. :)

I have a setup that I use on motorcycles that turns the bike into a dyno
It is a veypor Performance Intelligence system that with a CA and you would have complete plug and play
software with data loging and readout at yo finger tips RPM Torque and HP it is tits

The clone lives again Specialized Rock Hopper 16 inch frame
Pulled out a new donor Bike It is one of my wife's old bikes she use to race
After I took the cyclone off the Gary Fisher Cake 3 she confiscated it and now she says it is hers
and she is going to ride it like a bicycle can you believe that !!
I had the Cake 3 sold to a buddy of mine
and when she found out she said no way it is mine so we traded for her vintage Specialized Rockhopper
This bike will be set up with a 50 watt sine wave controller and a 52v24ah triangle battery in the frame the controller will have to go behind the seat or some were ealse
I will have to fix the bottom bracket so it works right and make some new torque straps and finish the new and improved cyclone free wheel bearing
that I am working on.

I wanted to check in. Been spending time doing van stuff blah blah. Bought the cheapest cargo van I could find and am now going to spend $10k to put a motorized pop top on it. Half the price of the van haha. Found some cheap flat rv windows that are being a real joy to install in the curved van sides. Accidently sliced one of my metal fold-up saw horses almost in half building a mini table saw out of my circular, so I can make the frames to mount the windows. I always wanted a table saw.
The next bike will be on hold until I move past the pop top cost. It will be a killer camper.
Do want to keep following the cyclone, and your thread GW. You had me going when it looked like you were bowing out. (Bow-wowing out?)

Dudes Thankx for the kind words, I am always building something it's crazy it even gets more Waco with the motorcycle thing.
I really wanted to have a great mid drive up and running by spring but that was not to be.
The whole GF cake 3 thing was a drag Epic failure on my part, it looked cool but as far as functional it was not what I considered to be practical I need distance.
That means carrying a big battery no way around it, their just was not any real proper place to mount it anyway
The best thing about the whole experience was getting the 52v24ah battery that thing so far is awesome I've got it in a Hard Tail mounted in the frame
juicing a 2600w DD it kicks serious ass, I cant wait to hook that kind of juice up to the Cyclone it should be awesome
I think this new try will be a blast should be a smoking hot rod that will climb with that 16 inch frame you should be able to throw it around quite easy
we shall see what we shall see
So my season is starting to kick in and I wont have the time that I had over the winter to experiment with this stuff but I did find out what I needed to know
About the cyclone, It needs some help and I am working on that now, anything can be improved upon if you throw enough money at it
BUT old men motorcycle mechanics in the mid west don't make a lot of dough, but I will do what I can to get my cyclone worked out,
Up to the standards that you can push it and it will hold together, I will share all of my findings with you other 3k heads and together
we can make this Cyclone 3k units what it should be, and all the other mid drives will go crying home to mama.

I ordered 2 bottom bracket bearings from luna today when they get in I will fix the bottom bracket and use the other bearing for the chain ring
I am still working on the motor mount system I have to go to the metal yard and pick up some aluminum to fab up a front mount
I will take my time on this and make it sweet

The new Motor Mount
At the hot rod shop this is what we came up with the thought is that with this the cyclone is not going anywhere
very solid top mount with inner triangle should do the job we call it the grip system

I like that you are using the water bottle bosses as the attachment point to the frame. Welding onto a bike frame that is going to go 40 mph is not a project for a first time welder :)

As far as 40 mph I will never see that with me on it, this thing is being built to climb. The Edge hits 40 no problem and with the hookworms is stable I have been riding it almost every day at a break neck speed of 11 mph I am testing to see how far I can go on the mode 1 low setting I should be able to go 50 miles with out peddling.
Those mounts are made of Al.Their is one on the other side of the motor also, it is one piece 1/4 thick and bent to go around the tube, cutting a perfect circle on one side and the drive side is notched. Drilling mount holes on a 1/4 piece of Al. and then bending it would be a total drag with hand tools, it would take hours and hours the CNC will get it spot on, it will be cut and drilled on a single flat piece then bent on a brake, then remove the fasteners on the left side of the motor remove the fasteners on the drive side of the motor, slip it over the bar like a saddle, Put your motor bolts back in, install the water bottle and side tube bolts in and that is secure 10 fastners hold the top mount on the frame and motor, the wedge that will go in between the stock motor mounts it will be installed with 3 bolts all the way through the mount and wedge then fastened with locking nuts, now the motor is really tight clamped in That's why it is called the Grip
As far as welding goes there will be some of that for sure, installing side water bottle bosses in the tube
I've done so much welding in my day that wont be a problem I have some great welding gear in the shop so when the time comes just Let er Rip Tater Chip
We are also working on the new free wheel bearing I just want to get it done before I get swamped with motorcycle work
What I am really saying is I just want to get to ride this thing and get it out their and let outer people ride it also that is how I am getting builds

A friend of ours rented trikes out on the beaches of L.A., San Diego, and Seattle. These were not your grandma's tricycle but very cool, very laid back low-rider, high performance machines. This was back in the 80's so I don't have any digital photos but plenty of hard copies.

What are you using to cut with

Just got my bottom bracket bearing in from Luna
I installed it and torqued everything down and it made a huge difference in the bottom bracket play
everything is real snug and tight I took it out and rode it like a bicycle and it was great
Now move on to the torque straps and get this thing on the road
