I just got back in town. I spend 4 days at a time on the road typically. Like the work. Hate the stinky hotels and all the road work.
I do have the bbhsd right now and not the cyclone. I have no slop, but as I said, wobble would develop as the big nut loosened up. It has stayed tight since I use the blue loc-tite.
So the stock cyclone has 1 bearing only, on the drive side obviously? I don't even remember bearings. I just stuck the hub thing into my BB and put the big nut on.

Will Ride Did ya check out your free wheel did it have slop or
was it tight and solid

Will Ride greetings
It is the free wheel that came with the kit
the motor is awesome the mounting needs a little work but I got through that
I see why Luna Developed the Luna tick set up
the stock unit has one bearing
the luna tick has two bearings I think that will be the ticket
I don't mind making this thing right it will be a demo bike
and I want it to be strong
grab your front chain ring at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and see if it wobbles mine does

So, just where is the problem stemming from? Is it a freewheel that came with the cyclone system? Is it just defective? You will have me questioning the integrity of the cyclone. My bottom bracket kept loosening up. I have been using a large channel-locks which can't quite get on it due to clearance/access at that last fraction of a turn to really oomph it, but a little loc-tite seems to have cured the problem, If it doesn't - knock on steel tubing - I will have to buy a wrench.

Up date 12617
Not much going on at this time starting a new build
what I have decided is the cyclone needs the luna tick crank set up
I have test ran the cyclone set up with 36v15ah battery and already see slop lots
on the free wheel bearing for the crank that will never fly for me
I don't mind breaking chains or wearing out gears but I want the crank assembly
solid and stout.
so I am going to work on the other build and pick up on this one when
I get the new battery and will order the luna tick and go from there
Have a great day all.

Thanks Bill, interested in seeing what you come up with, may come in useful for me if and when I decide to use this controller on my current setup.

I just bought from luna the cyclone thumb throttle which should be a direct plug in
A cyclone 40a controller and a 3 position switch should be plug and play for the new build
when I get everything I will sort the wiring out and let you know what it is
the hall sensors should be the only thing I will have to work on
Bill.

For what its worth when I was commuting 27 miles one way to work I averaged 20 mph ,sometimes a little slower, around 17. When I arrived I always, unless it was a really windy day, had 46 volts remaining according to the readout on my Luna Storm 48 volt 20 ah battery. Starting voltage was 53.7 nearly every time, full charge of course. I have one really long downhill run on the return trip, 1/4 mile long or so, and was always having to brake because of a traffic light at an intersection at the foot of this run. Speed was 34 before I started braking. Anyway the point is with the voltage of the battery you are getting range should not be an issue as long as you take care of your battery and follow the 80/20 rule. I usually do 100% charge every 4 cycles or so. This is my own experience thus far. Would like to see how you incorporate that 40 amp controller into your rear hub, the wiring is what I am mostly interested in as I have one I bought from Luna that I want to incorporate into my current build. Luna sells them cheap enough to have an extra just in case. Have you joined the Fast Electric Bikes Facebook page yet? I think you would be a great addition to the group. Also if you document your build I believe Luna gives a $50 credit to approved postings, would help offset some of the post winter credit card shock! Ride on safely and keep us posted GreenWerks, I always look forward to your posts on here!

Not at all I like this site I started out here, I like luna ( just spent money with them this morning)
From what I have seen about Erick I think he is righteous even if he looks
like a homeless person If you guys saw me you would think that I look like a homeless person also
so I will be around giving daily details from A real life garage as long as you guys put up with me.
I choose the edge 1500w motor because of the article that spinning magnets wrote about it.
seems like a nice motor, as far as torque I think that if you throw the luna 52v24ah battery and the cyclone 40a controller
at it it should kick some serious ass.
For my daily rider I just want to go about 12 to 15 mph for a long distance, anyway I started the build and we shall see.
This way Green Werks will have 3 demo bikes
A cheepo 800w hub motor ebay with a cheepo 36v15ah and a cheepo walmart bike
A Gary fisher Cake3 full suspension with a cyclone 3000w done right with a luna 52v20ah square
A Gary Fisher Tassajara hard tail with a 1500w 2600w max hub motor with a luna 52v24ah triangle
and that will be the stable and maybe I will get some local work out of it.
I will start doing demo rides as soon as the weather comes around
I just want to be ready for it when it happens.

Well, GW, I hope this doesn't mean you will be dumping us on this site for some Edge forum.
How do the hubs compare to the mids for low rpm torque, which of course you can enhance with the mid through the gear down?
You just had me reading up on the Edge. With all the info and stuff going on with ebikes I will come up with a new handle - Spinning Brain Cells. I am not much of an experimenter and love going with the tried and true.

This is what I 'am going to recommend to my clients as a mid drive kit
Cyclone Bare Motor 219.00
cyclone controller 50.00
Thumb throttle 25.00
Luna Crank 156.00
Bottom Bracket 40.00
Heavy duty MM 100.00
-------------------
$590.00
luna battery $800.00
---------------------
$1390.00
That is a pro kit in my opinion8 Photos

12417 update
After thinking it over the Gary fisher cake3 will remain intact and designated as a demo bike instead of a daily rider
luna is working on the restock of the square 52v20ah battery when that happends I will pick one of them up
put it on the bike and do some more testing.
From what little testing I have done so far with the 36v15ah battery the cyclone front chain ring set up will have to go
I will try the luna set up which looks to be the ticket
when I recommend this kit to my clients I will tell them to order the luna crank also
and the battery will have to be the 52v20ah at the least
I was hoping that this would be my daily rider but it is not to be
what is to be is it will make a great mid drive hi performance Demo ride bike
I have already started on my upper end hub drive bike that will be my daily driver
the combo will be
luna 52v24ah triangle battery
cyclone 40 amp controller
Edge 1500w hub motor
The bike is the Gary Fisher hard tail
I will post more info as I get it

Great talking to you also
I will leave the bike intact so you can test ride it with your battery
Thankx Bill.

Good talking to you earlier Bill. Sorry if I was a little out of it, I was taking a nap when you called. My five week old son has taken to being nocturnal and so have I lol.
I'll definitely bring my bike down your way. Hopefully I can make it sometime this week so don't tear your build down just yet! I'd be up for working out a trade if you like the one I put together more. Mine is great for just cruising, but like I said on the phone, I want to do some more aggressive off-roading and this is not the bike for it. Your build looks right up my alley though. Can't wait to give it a test ride.

48 volt 20 ah Luna Storm, range 35 miles with me pedaling very little. Also, I live in Chattanooga suburb/satellite town called Soddy Daisy, lotsa hills and angry drivers on the two lanes. Could easily get 40-45 miles out of this battery on flat terrain and minimal wind. Recently hooked up the pedal assist unit, haven't really had good enough weather as of late to do an accurate appraisal of the range with it. Will report back as soon as possible. Was wanting to go to mini-cyclone and mount it on an older Fuji aluminum frame, but got laid off and just cannot afford it right now. Gotta say that rear wheel setup on my Schwinn Ranger F/s handles like a small motorcycle with the 9 pound battery hanging in the triangle, in a LUNA triangle bag, ziptie version. Also plan on a Sondors type battery case, just haven't found the right material yet. And a 1500 0r 2000 watt rear hub motor would probably give me the power I'm looking for. This is so addictive, becomes an obsession if I let it lol. Ride on Bill, be safe!!
