Specialized Carbon 'Fatboy' and the new 7000W Cyclone MidDrive

So I have an On-One Fat bike with a 100mm BBSHD which is great fun.

    But i like tinkering so

I have a Specialized Carbon 'fatboy' which has a 100mm BB.

I understand my bike has a PF30 BB. and that its a press fit.

So will this work with the 7000 kit from Cyclone

I have been told this will need "Adapters" but cant find reference to them anywhere

Also the power from the 7000W motor means the cadence peddling assist sensor is as good as useless

so as i assume the 3000w and the 7000w are the same apart from the motor size is this true for both?

and the fact of a having a choice of a 1 or 2 shifter at the front , stock chain rings or alloy and the choice of 22T, 32T, 44T, 48T

    makes this a nice build.

And then to build a cage to hold it to the frame instead of the "CABLE TIE"

But my biggest issue is the BB and the Adapters

so anyone have any ideas on this before i add this to my collection of E bikes

    cheers

It should work provided is a threaded IS BB, you'll probably need the 100mm ISIS BB from Luna;,and you probably want to use the strongest chain you can get. The 7500W motor from cyclone is a lot stronger than the 3000W... it can potentially eat drive chainrings like crazy.

As for cadence, yes, forget about pedaling along with it. Even the 3000W is pretty much useless for "pedaling along" Mine spins at 350 so I just "pedal along" even though my legs don't do anything.

        Out of Interest.....

If i wanted to put a BBSHD on this bike and i have a 120mm BB version i could put on.

as it has a 100mm BB and
a PF30 BB. and that its a press fit.

I lose 10 mm because the motor does not go all the way in.

so have approx 10 mm on the opposite side.

        what extra would i need.

is there more than a spacer???

Assuming you can find a 100mm PF30 to BSA adapter, you just need spacers - the Luna ones are fine. I used their spacers for my 120mm BBSHD to 100mm BB. A couple of 4mm, and a 2mm either side of the BB will do the trick - try to minimize the drive side spacers. You will also need spacers for the bolts - same number of mm as the BB spacers on the drive side - you can just use washers. My BBSHD came with special aluminum bolt spacers but only enough for a max of 5mm a bolt I think. I guess Luna will sell you some.

You are the first builder I have heard of adapting a PF30 BB to a mid drive, so I will be watching with great interest. Thanks for posting pics to help others who want to do the same thing.

So I have done some Digging with Josh Luna Lab Luna

              and He found this

              and it can be done

so i ordered some bits off Ebay

              New Longer Chain

ID:	9386 PF30/BB To BSA Bottom Bracket Conversion Adapter / Converter

              As I looked more closely

              there will be several issues

              1. the motor will not be flush to the BB (I knew this from my other bike)

              2. the motor would be too long as i had a 120 mm BB BBSHD

              3. the motor spacing between the axle and the casing might not have enough room

              4. I would need Spacers approx. 2 cm

              so I would need
Eccentric Bottom Bracket Adapter To PF30

OR this with spacers already built in ( and cheaper)

The first Issue is no one does this in 100 mm BB only 68 mm but that just means sourcing longer bolts

so now i need to decide which way to go

              Pic 1

              Negative points

              Longer Bolts
              Needs Spacers
              Expensive

              Positive Points

if fitted at the correct angle will mean the Motor will be further from the frame so less gap on motor side ( but excess is on other side)
              Better chain line
can be angled for frame clearance

              Pic 2

              Negative points

              Longer Bolts
              Needs Spacers Possibly??
unsure of thee size of built in spacer
              longer delivery

              Positive Points

spacer there and solid for the motor fitting
can be angled for frame clearance
              Third of the Price

as im away for a bit delivery may not be a problem

Seriously cool info on those BB adapters. Are they plastic or aluminium? I would hope the latter!

I think I would go the more expensive option (weird that as there is less material there!) - that way gives you more flexibility with separate spacers. The other (Pic2) may need spacers anyway - pity you can't get measurements of that.

How much $$$ are we talk here?

Edit: Never mind, found them on ebay. Not extremely cheap then. ;)

so i have looked around a bit more and found these
NINER BIOCENTRIC II EBB ECCENTRIC BOTTOM BRACKET

                      its £84 or $89

but caters for thee BSA screw fit which means a 33 mm shaft

they will need longer bolts and some spacers for for the extra bolt length as these don't appear to come in 100 mm

Very nice indeed and if it works out okay, it'll open up a host of different bikes for the BBSxx. :)
                        Great work!

So I ordered 2 sets of adapters

the NINER BIOCENTRIC II EBB ECCENTRIC BOTTOM BRACKET is awesome and with some Hollow alloy Tube and some longer Bolts was easily extended to a 100 mm BB

but is unfortunately too big for my Bike so returned it.

                              the £5.00
                              J&L PF30/BB Right/BB386 EVO>BSA Bottom Bracket Conversion Adapter/Convertor

fits and with some home made spacers work perfectly

I will add some pics tomorrow
