    Disc Brake Caliper clearance issue

I recently purchased a Grin All Axle front hub motor for my tandem. Tonight, I was fitting the motor and discovered my Hope Mono Ti6 hydraulic disc brakes won't work. Really disappointed about that because they cost me a bazillion dollars and I really like them. There just isn't enough clearance between the brake rotor and the hub. I was willing to do a little modifying to the caliper, but I would have to remove so much material that it would break into the piston bores. Obviously, that's not going to work. I was reading on the Grin website and it states "18mm Disk Caliper Clearance fits most (but not all) calipers without spacers ". Even my Hope 203mm brake rotor won't work without some filing or machining on the rotor mounting flange. I think my best bet is to just replace my front brake. I'm wondering if anyone could make a recommendation on a front, hydraulic disc brake caliper that will work with my hub. I searched the internet high and low and can't seem to find dimensions for brake calipers. I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer.

I had the same issue and could not space the disk out further as it would hit the power cable. I ended up with a manual cable actuated caliper and it works good.

      Hey texasbaeehr,
Thanks for responding. I wound up getting a set of SRAM Guide RE hydraulic brakes. They have a pretty narrow profile. I did need to space my rotor out an additional 1mm and like you, any more than that the power cable is in the way. The way the cable comes out is less than ideal, but at the same time, they really didn't have a choice on how they did that. There is such limited room to work with. All in all, I think they did a good job tackling a very difficult engineering task. I found if I routed the wire out at the opening of the dropout, I could make a more gentle bend.
