    FAQ: Batteries

As of the first half of 2017, the primary choice of batteries for electric bikes are Li-ion. Li-ion batteries are made of Lithium-Ion cells. These cells are used in nearly all laptop computers and were made famous as the battery technology in Tesla electric cars.

If well cared for electric bike batteries can last between 400 and 1000 cycles. In other words they can retain most of their usable energy if recharged every day for between 1 and 3 years.

Most electric bikes run at 48 or 52 Volts. High powered bikes can run at up to 72 Volts.
