Hello,
I have luna wolf pack 52 volt battery with the standard charger I also have a powerlab 8 Revolectrix charger for my lipos and RC stuff. I would like to know if I can use my PL8 to charge the LUNA wolf more effectively then the basic blue charger I got with the battery when I bought it it is not the advanced only has a dial on it.
My setup is as follows Grin Phaserunner v2 with CA v3 and setting up batteries as 14s Lion 52v Battery A and 66v 18S as battery B when I run the 52v luna it used to have more punch now it seems to start out at giving me 700-800 watts power at 58v fully charged then as it gets to 54v which is above half full it scales back to a miserable 90watts any ideas why this is happening I am not familiar with the BMS inside but I am thinking it might be affecting this. When I run the lipos I pulling 2000 watts if I want at 66v that goes to 58volts or so any ideas on how to get more power out of luna wolf 52v battery i have it set up at 10ah on CA
I am also considering purchasing the 72v triangle 17 ah battery from you, I need to dial in the setup. I am the grin setup to 90amp and 3500 watts so the power should be there as i mentioned it is on lipos

Battery management systems can not limit wattage (for the most part it is either on or off) so it sounds like you got something else going on there. Anyway if you got a different charger for li-ion and have the proper connectors or adapters then yes you might be able to use it, assuming it is not the lipo kind that needs balance leads and so on.

I received my BBHSD kit with Wolf Pack battery and am starting to plan the build on my wife's Townie. The Wolf V2 w/MJ1's is going on my wife's Townie and I am concerned about clearance between the two curved down-tubes. The battery seems to fit okay in theory, but how much clearance on top of the battery is necessary to remove the battery from the V2 magnetic mounts? I noticed from the Luna videos you peel it off side to side / diagonally. Any advice would be appreciated. Should I send pictures? Thanks!

You don't really need much in the way of top clearance, certainly less compared to other hard case batteries since you don't slide it upward you just tilt it to the side.

Are you sure you have to drill rivnuts? You might take this approach, then you can just move the mounts around. It adds a few millimeters but worst case you could use this to get the pack centered then add the rivnuts once you got it where you want it https://lunacycle.com/no-drill-battery-mount-kit/

Looks very doable! Seems to me you got several options. Those mounts may work, if that's a bit tight you could mount it without the mount using cable ties if you don't need it to be removable, you could also probably mount it on the top tube or on the underside of the downtube, assuming you reinforce it.

I am most concerned with the clearance down by where my hand is in the picture. When I simulate dismounting the battery, it looks pretty tight when the battery is up on an angle. I think I will take your advice and mount it temporarily with zip ties or hose clamps to check before drilling.
There are no existing mounts so rivnuts are necessary for the permanent Luna magnetic mount. I am trying to make it hard to steal the battery, so I was thinking of creating a stainless cradle that bolts into the underside of the top tube where near the supporting bracket is near the steerer tube, secured with a Penta Pin security bolt. That way you could not twist the battery side to side to dismount it without having a proper tool. It would also double as some support should one of the rivets give out. Just a thought.

Yeah with those tight spots there's a bit of a trick to it. Usually centering the lower portion onto the mount first, then positioning the top in. Then when you remove it doing that in opposite where you pull out the bottom portion first then the top portion. Takes a little getting used to. My bike has less clearance than that and I can do it, though to be fair in my bike I have the battery with the connectors facing downward rather than upward and I'm not sure how that would affect removal procedure on a tight space. I'd bet you could do it though.
Or maybe on the underside, especially if you use the no drill mounts so you can experiment with it. Sort of like in the pic below
Nice thing about that is a lower center of gravity as well. Can be harder on bikes like in this pic because the suspension could compress on that front fork and potentially hit the battery if you don't know how far it can compress, but for a bike like yours with no suspension on the fork that is not an issue. Maybe something to think about if you run into an issue. Good luck!

Well in the end it was a challenge fitting the Wolf Pack in between the top & bottom tubes on the magnetic mounting plate from Luna. I installed four 5 mm Rivnuts for strength in the middle of the bottom tube. Installing the magnetic mounting plate i put two washers on the outside two rivnuts between the frame and the plate to accommodate for the curve of the bottom tube and reinforce the support. After trying unsuccessfully to mount the battery to the magnetic plate when centered, I unscrewed the 5mm bolts and moved the bracket down the tube a bit to allow for the last bit of space necessary to wrestle it in place. Once the battery is almost able to make it over the ledge of the track I just pressed the top of the mounting plate down (i.e. temporarily bending it) and it clicked into place. Then I pushed the battery down to where it is now and it isn't going anywhere soon. :-)
The bonus is that someone cannot steal this battery without a lot of work. Thanks for your help Paxtana!

Question on the Luna Wolf V2 Battery Pack and how the BMS works. I have a 60A controller...if I exceed the "50A continuous" rating for too long, does the BMS have a "circuit breaker" that will protect it? Thanks

60A controllers do not pull anywhere near 60A continuously, that is peak current. But yes if you did continuously pull higher than whatever a BMS is continuously rated for, it would trip the BMS. On overcurrent protection you might just need to unplug the battery and plug it back in again, though with some BMS you might need to charge it to reset it.

what kind of miles can I get out of a charge ? ( I get that it varies on conditions , ect but can You get me in the ballpark ? )

Sure if you can measure what the average watthour per mile your system uses. For example if you are using 30wh/mi and comparing that to a Wolf with 700wh then that would be 700 / 30 = 23.3 miles. Or if you were using a Dire Wolf 1100 / 30 = 36.6 miles.
This is a estimate please keep in mind, and will vary a lot. If you use a fair amount of pedal assist your numbers could be more, or if you use a system that pulls a lot of current your numbers could be less

sorry to ask so many questions but funds are not unlimited and I am trying to see if Your battery , the shark, would at least be better , range wise to the one I already have . I have a rear rack mount one that is 48 volt . It claims 17.5 AH and OMG this thing is a lead weight
Your Shark is lighter weight , better made , and uses higher quality cells . I get about 35 miles out of it . quality of my pack is laughable ( nebie here live and learn)

Voltage is not really that relevant to the range.
We sell $35 watt meters if you want to test what sort of capacity you are getting from your existing battery. I can tell you our batteries use good cells and the capacity does match what is advertised, so if that's what you end up needing then yeah it'll work for you

Hi, I was wondering if you could advise on the BMS on these packs. I've built out a Cargo bike with two of the Wolf V2 13.5Ah MJ1 naked packs. The discharge profile on this is awesome, only 15A per side. I have yet to put any kind of isolation between the packs and have been testing them by charging them individually then discharging them together. I would like to move to parallel charging and I've been looking at threads like this one.
I'm wondering how disconnected the charge ports are from the load side and what is the purpose of the dual XT60 - just a spare charge port or is it a secondary port for discharging (e.g. accessories).1 Photo
