Also, if you crash into someone because you were going fast and lost control, that is a civil liability matter and the size of the motor on Luna X-1 will be used as evidence that you were very likely going too fast to be safe for the trail and thus you will be liable to compensate the victim for damages.

So if you don't have liability insurance on the Luna x-1 for accidents (no your house policy for theft won't be applicable) make sure you go out and buy an UMBRELLA POLICY that, as the name implies, covers you for liability for all sorts of tortious acts (yes I am a lawyer).

-Not knowing what the ludicrous controller was I didn't order. I read it doubles the current. Pros I guess is power, con must be power consumption?
-what is the battery range like?
-I'm in Ontario can. What did the duties $ cost?

No duties. Just GST and broker fees of $120, and for you in Ontario HST.

Just curious, for those that did not order the "ludicrous" option (I did not) is it something that can be ordered and retrofitted at a later date?

Probably not.. once the modification is done to the controller it has to be reprogrammed specifically for that motor. You can't just swap in an upgraded controller and have it work.

OK, was just wondering, I thought it might be something you do when the bikes get here to the states. I watched a video or two of M600 teardowns and it looked pretty straight forward to get to the controller board.

I put a power meter on my Ludicrous X-1. I wanted to confirm I had the Ludicrous controller. Next time I'll have to fully charge the battery but I'm happy with the results.

Thanks for the video, I too noticed that the torque sensor when pedalling seems to provide more torque than the throttle alone.

In fact I love how sensitive and powerful the torque sensor is on pedalling I am going to remove the throttle.

You're welcome :) Yeah, the torque sensor feels great! I noticed that I barely used the throttle on the trail, but I might want it for when there are a lot of obstacles (roots, rocks) to reduce pedal strikes, or maybe I can try some new pedaling techniques that will keep the motor active without requiring full pedal rotation.

Love your videos. I'm a bit late to this discussion but would like to set up my X1 to switch from the frame battery to a hydration pack battery. Any thoughts on the best way to route the wire up the seat tube? I'd be using this for range extension on really long rides. It's great to see that you've already tested the 52V 14S compatibility. Funny guy!!! it felt like someone kicked me in the nuts when the sparks flew. I almost burned my house down last spring with a Li battery pack, It actually looked just like that but a lot more violent. Great work with the experiments this is important information. Thank you for taking the time

It appears on my ludicrous equipped bike that my motor is cutting power at 25-26mph. Once I unlocked the 11T sprocket, it was pretty easy to reach 25mph on flat ground with some pedaling, but I can feel the motor cutting in and out once I reach 25 or so. Has anyone been able to reach higher speeds? I was planning to buy a 38T chainring, but there’s no point if I can already reach the max speed.

Just try it with the wheel off the ground. If there's a speed limit, it won't let it go faster even if the wheel's off the ground. Mine will go 30.5 mph (according to the display) with the wheel off the ground in the 13T cog.

Unfortunately, my throttle is broken atm, so I can’t test that. I may try propping it upside down and turning the pedals to see if that works.

I installed a 40T chain ring and it does increase top speed slightly using the throttle only but pedaling, it tops off at 25 mph. Seems strange to me. You can't pedal over 25 mph. As anyone here who's unlocked to 11T sprocket, you know that with ludicrous it skips in the smallest gear. With the 40T chain ring, it now also skips in the 2nd smallest gear. I'm hoping to find a cure because those gears won't last if one allows that to happen. The gearing vs pedaling speed is strange to me because my other ebike, a first gen FLX Roadster is just the opposite. I can pedal it faster than with the throttle alone and I can pedal it to about 30 mph on a flat road, much faster downhill. I can pedal the X-1 faster than 25 mph no matter what but I've had it 30 mph downhill using the throttle.

Did you lengthen your chain? You may need a longer chain because the larger chainring might leave you with less chain wrap around the cogs, which makes the most difference in the smallest ones. I ordered a new Sram NX chain, so I'll report how that goes. Are you saying the motor stops assisting after you reach 25 mph? Can you try it with the wheel off the ground to see what speed it reaches?

I'm so impressed with this little motor and I'm so happy they didn't detune the throttle, it looks like it delivers the same amperage as the PAS? I'm surprised the drivetrain hasn't been destroyed speed shifting through the gears like that.. Thank you for the testing, I'm feeling better about spending $4k on a new bike, I can't wait for the end of the month.

You're welcome! You need to try a Cyclone 3000 :) Even with that I don't worry about damaging my gears. It's really not necessary to baby the drivetrain unless you're experiencing repeated failures.
