Special Tools That Will Make BBSHD / BBS02 Installation Easier

    What tools I need?

If you really want the ultimate tool or plan to do a number of bbshd bbs02 installations consider buying the bafang took kit which will take the place of most of the kits below. It is a bit pricey at $60 and often out of stock.

You can remove Shimano external bottom bracket cartridges, lock the inner bafang gray lock nut and lock the bafang black outer lock ring (all BBSXX) all your need a ratchet.
Also has a socket to remove the lock ring on the left side of the axle of the BBS02

    Aftermarket Installation Tool kits

Because of the high price of the Bafang tool kit named above several dealers are releasing their own versions of the same tool. California Ebikes has the BPT1 selling for about $35. The large end is made to fit the 33mm bottom bracket retention nut and the small end is made to fit the 17mm shaft nut. Does not include a socket to tighten the outer black lock ring, you will need either the Luna tool, the Luna tool kit or a simple Hozan spanner wrench

    How to remove these parts

    Bottom Bracket

This can be the hardest part of the entire installation, especially if you don’t have the right tools.
There are various different types of bottom brackets. If you are unsure of which type you have, bring your bicycle to your local bicycle shop and ask which tools you need. Your local bike shop should have them for sale.

The luna tool kit can take care of the vast majority of normal BB (exceptions are Shimano XTR parts, some Campagnolo part and ...)

Most standard shimano bottom brackets can be removed/reinstalled with this tool:
    http://www.amazon.com/BIKEHAND-Bicyc...m+bracket+tool

We recommend you commission a local bike shop to do this job for you if you have a feisty bottom bracket, or don't feel like you can handle the job.
This article will be of help in that instance:

    Cranks

The luna tool kit can take care of the vast majority of normal cranks (exceptions are Shimano XTR parts, some Campagnolo part and ...)

Square taper crank pullers can be used on most cranks, and can also be used on many other 3 part cranks like Shimano, race face, etc.with the exception of Shimano XTR and Campagnolo cranks.
Also, self extraction cranks do not require special tools, and Shimano Hollowtech needs a tool that comes with the Hollowtech bottom bracket tools and the Luna tool kit.

Park tools make the best bike tools but they can be expensive and so many models for different type of spline, other good alternatives are Ice Toolz and BikeHands.

    BBS02/BBSHD Lock Rings

The Luna tool can lock both lock rings Click here to get it!

The Bafang installation tool can too but it's frequently out of stock.

If you already have most of the tools and need something to tighten the gray inner locking get a Hozan C-205 lockring wrench. or something similar.

    Other general bicycle tools:

To tighten the outer lock ring:
We do not suggest using this Park Tool: http://www.parktool.com/product/bott...ttom%20Bracket.
You can’t use it to tighten the BBSHD outer lockring; it may hit the BBSHD motor. The best thing is to get another model, like the Bike hand:

    Bike hand:
    http://www.bikehand.com/style/frame/...7050&id=301006
(It comes with the crank arm plastic screw remover tool too!)

Or You can use a Shimano Hollowtech II socket like the ParkTool:
    http://www.parktool.com/product/bott...-tool-bbt-19-2
    Or the Shimano version:

Note: If you are going to use loctite during re-installation, use the BLUE type, never the RED type!
