Magic pie and Smart Pie troubleshooting

Disconnect the brake switch, pedelec, and any accessories, just the throttle, before troubleshooting. Check you did a good job on power wiring and all connectors were properly inserted, you can unplug and carefully replug the connectors to be certain, while making sure no pins are bent in the connectors.

    Testing the throttle

The throttle generally has 5 wires leading to it. Usually they are divided into two plugs. On plug has 2 wires and the other three. The two wire plug is for the switch on the throttle and the three wire plug is actually for the throttle.

In general the throttle has three wires that are colour coded black, red and green. The black is ground, the red is the positive feed going to the throttle and the green is the power coming back from the throttle.

With the bike powered on you can use a meter to test the voltage. With the ground from the meter on the back wire, the red wire should have about 4 volts of power and the green about 1 volt when the throttle is at rest. With the throttle twisted both red and green wires should have about 4 volts of power. If so the throttle is working.

Do you have the battery level indicator connected?

If the level indicators drop when you hit the throttle you may have a battery or connection problem.

You should be able to easily test if your battery, controller and motor are still working by trying the following to see if you motor runs, you do not need a multimeter to try this:
    • Disconnect the throttle, but leave everything else connected as normal
    • Turn on the battery power switch
    • Raise the driven wheel off the ground and keep you fingers etc clear of the wheel!
    • Carefully plug the throttle in and be prepared for the wheel to spin at full speed if everything else apart from the throttle is working OK

    Hi,

I am new to the ebike world and have already built 2 bikes. I am in need of some help from you awesome Magic Pie V5 experts.

I have a Magic Pie 5 and need help in figuring out why I have lost like 75% of my power.

I have a 48v 11amp Luna Shark Battery. Which is testing (volt meter) at 52 to 54 volts output. So I'm pretty sure that its not a battery issue.

I bought a new throttle thinking that that was the issue. Both have a button on the bottom. The old one use to turn the lights (on the throttle) on and off when I pushed it. Then about a day before it lost power the button STOPPED turning the display lights on/off. ALSO the throttle does NOT engage until about 70% "turn". Thus the reason I bought a new one. The NEW ONE is acting EXACTLY as the old one did. (lights, 70% turn before power).

I have to the best of my abilities tested and checked the power cables. All seem to be fine and I have unplugged and replugged all of them as needed.

Everything was working fine until I unplugged the throttle replugged in back in (after I parked it). Any help would be awesome and appreciated.

    Thank you

You are saying you have to spin the motor to get it started before throttle works?
if so probably the hall sensor or the halls wiring.
Might be able to use this guide for testing. You would have to disconnect integrated controller

        Hi,

No...The motor spins with the throttle but at only like 5 to 8 mph yet has PLENTY of torque. It climbs with no issues to speed at all. It's like everything works...but it's just SLOW.

I put it on a stand and "jacks" and I ran it for like 2 hours. It did not lose power show down or speed up once. (I sat there and read a book and just watched/listened to it).

I really hope it's just a harness issue. I really like the hub.

        Thanks

You sure it's not the throttle?

I really thought it was. So I bought a new one from Luna on Monday. New one is doing the exact SAME thing.

The ONLY thing I did (that may have caused this) what unplug the throttle cable and plug it back into the "cruise control" wire by accident. It lit up but didn't run. I of course realized that and plugged it back in where it should go.

            Thank you

Okay if the harness doesn't do it you might have to pull the controller

Got harness today. STILL SAME issue. Additionally the throttle I just bought from Luna STOPPED working and my old one is still only good for about 10% power. I'll be going to Luna on Monday and asking as to WHY they have a "twist" throttle shown here https://lunacycle.com/parts/hub-moto...wist-throttle/

And yet I was told "twist" type DO NOT WORK for Magic Pie 5? It says for Magic Pie v5 on that page!

Guess I'll figure it out! Welcome to the world of "Custom" building!

Golden motor throttles work with all Golden motor products, if someone told you otherwise they were mistaken. We have several other throttles that would not be compatible and I don't know who you talked with about this particular throttle so I can't speak for what they told you but that throttle is compatible.
If you are still having issues you might want to check out the Golden Motors' own forum https://goldenmotor.com/SMF/index.php

I don't know who you spoke with about stopping by on Monday but the warehouse is not open to the public on Mondays, only Tuesday through Friday. Mondays are spent scrambling to take care of the backlog that piles up over the weekend.

Hello, I have a controller that the battery input polarity is in contact internally, when measuring it with a multimeter between these two cables it gives me a cut-off beep

Sounds like you should replace the controller, or at least the connector. Good luck
